Recently, I just bought the new Rise Against CD "Appeal To Reason".
I really enjoy it, probably my favorite Rise Against album so far.
I was wondering why the fuck there wasn't a thread about this.

All the songs sound the same but it's still good dingen. Not terribly different from other generic aggrotech bands but better than many.

I like the 1989 version of Machineries of Joy better but the rest of the disk's remakes are great. Both disks bundled and I got it for only 15 bucks brand new, nice.

Todd (underrated)
Runt
edit: Faithful
Randy Newman - Sail Away (alright)
Joni Mitchell - For the Roses
Neil Young - Live at Canterbury House 1968 (good performances, annoying chat)

Hearing Chrome and Arena I was expecting this to be an amazing album, I was disappointed. It's not a bad album, it's just not as good as the first two songs make it out to be.
The last album I bought was Fun Trick Noisemaker by The Apples in Stereo. It's a pretty good album.
Slipknot - All hope is gone
The only song I really liked on this was Till we die.
That song alone was worth the 15 bucks though

G. Love & Special Sauce - Superhero Brother
A bit disappointing, he's starting to stray from his bluesy roots which I had just started to get into. He's getting a more poppy feel to his music but it's still fun to listen to.

not the music tastes, the fact that he spent 15 dollars for 1 song.
that doesn't sound stupid and machine feeding to you?
Quote from: Looking For A Good Fuck;1508685not the music tastes, the fact that he spent 15 dollars for 1 song.

it sounds to me that he wanted to try out the album and instead of using bittorrent he bought the album without any reccomendation or education on the quality of the album.
so really its not an issue of feeding the machine, it just sounds like a waste of money on his part.
I consider feeding the machine buying an album with little musical value but heavy popularity.

Clock Crew has surprisingly refined tastes.
Stfu.
Just got:
Jason Mraz - Waiting for my Rocket to come
Its great, although it doesn't sound like his live stuff. On the record it has much more of a hip-hop / pop attitude than an acoustic folk album

Með suð à eyrum við spilum endalaust - Sigur Rós
EP C / B EP - BATTLES
they are all quite nice.
come to think of it, I am rarely dissapointed with the albums I buy.
But these albums have made me want to listen to them in a nice dark room, I think it would be nice just to lie there in the dark and just soak it all in.
Bought all the Spinal Tap albums.

Boy i hope that you haven't listened to anything made by pre-Petri Ensiferum. The new album sounds like some fuckin new band trying to get in on the Folk Metal fad. Old Ensiferum was good, Ensiferum with Petri has turned into a joke.
Not to say Petri is bad (which he is, completely butchers all good old ensiferum songs live) but that ensiferum lost most of it's life when Jari left, who was the main songwriter as well as composer right after Markus brought him onboard because Jari was good at that, having been a solo band (
With amazing songs) for years before he was in Ensiferum.
Ensiferum post-Jari had the rest of the founding members (Jukka something and his brother) leave to go do whatever, leaving Markus and the keyboard slut (who left after Victory Songs), so he brought the norther faggot on, and ever since norther faggot's been writing the songs.
And this is what you get, dime-a-dozen synth
folk power metal.
well that blows, I liked ensiferum.

If you want a good album, get infinite, its a twist between raw and well produced, and has alot of the good qualities of eminem and few of the obnoxious ones (i.e no over emotional songs and excessive weirdness). Be noted that when you first hear it, it wont really sound like an eminem album because its not meant to hit the top of the billboards.

Uh... Let's see... I last bought Everybody Knows This is Nowhere - Neil Young, Highway 61 Revisited - Bob Dylan, Bitte Orca - Dirty Projectors, aaand... Oh, My Dinosaur Life - Motion City Soundtrack (based on all the good reviews, I figured it'd be a decent trip down memory lane. I was wrong. Very wrong).

Quote"The wild thing about these boys is they would look glam but play a more sophisticated style in the vein of DURAN DURAN, BLONDIE, BOWIE and at times ALICE COOPER. PHAROAH did release one album back in 1986 called “First Strike†on Lipstick East Records but as music fell prey to grunge PHAROAH faded with the wind."
This is basically a re-release of that cd with more songs. It rocks. This band sounds nothing like the other often tagged hair metal bands of the 80's. More synth and dance sounds.
The guy in the back is shockingly lacking in makeup and hair products.

Good observation. He's actually photoshopped in. It's the keyboardist that was later added to the lineup, they recently went back into the studio and put together the new cd. You can also tell he looks way older than the others.
Original photo
You can hear the whole cd here. They also do a decent cover of I Am the Walrus.

Hahaha
I've been on a buying frenzy recently.. getting albums on CD that I must have pirated 5 or so years ago, and have listened to ever since.
To name a few...
Justice - Cross
Gorillaz - Demon Days
Daft Punk - Discovery
Electric Six - Fire
Pendulum - Hold Your Colour
Pendulum - In Silico
Kaos Theory 3
Mr Scruff - Keep It Unreal
Lemon Jelly - Lost Horizons
The Streets - Original Pirate Material
Gorillaz - Plastic Beach
Deadmau5 - Random Album Title
Basement Jaxx - Remedy
187 Lockdown - 187
Armand Van Helden - 2 Future 4 U
South Park - Bigger Longer and Uncut soundtrack
As for new stuff...

Pendulum - Immersion
Big disappointment. Half was loud and soulless, and half were incomplete experiments. The only tracks I liked were 'Salt in the wounds', 'Watercolour' and 'Set me on fire'.
Otherwise I've pre-ordered this

Uffie - Sex, Dreams and Denim Jeans
Uffie's been the underdog for years, contributing with "Ed Banger Records" artists on various songs (Most notably "The Party" from Justice's album 'Cross' (See here) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JbN5B93mpFE)). Her lyrical style has been shamelessly ripped off by mainstream artists like Ke$ha, Rihanna and Lady Gaga over the years. This is her debut album, and it'll be smoking hot.
Half the album is produced by Mr Oizo (Best known for 'Flat Beat' (See here) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kv6Ewqx3PMs)). His beats are fucking hot dude. Check the track below.
[u2]7j1U0kixp-g[/u2]
Other than that.. I'm eagerly waiting for Justice's 2010 album, and the New Daft Punk album to coincide with the release of Tron 2.0.

That was bad also. Nothing 'big', like about half of Demon Days. When Gorillaz do 'big' its great, but when they dont, its below average alternate drivel.
Just recently picked up We Are Scientists' new CD Barbara which is excellent.

noooooo, i liked plastic beach. anywho have you seen the trailers for mr. oizo's new film
RUBBER? also DJ Mehdi from the Ed Banger label collaborated with Riton to form "Carte Blanche" which is this awesome chicago house inspired project, they released a 4 song ep back in may. also Mr Flash, the first artist signed to ed banger, released a new ep entitled "Blood, Sweat and Tears" i've only heard a few songs but its pretty good.
Last one i brought was... A Farewell to Kings by Rush.
Before that it was Fragile by Yes.
I am not a real sucker for buying music albums, but I got these for a dollar each on Salvation Army.
I think it was a sweet deal!

Little Big Planet Original Soundtrack:
What could I possibly say about this that you guys don't already know? The CD brings forth a fabulous array of sounds that can immediately change your day into a bright and happy one. So far, my favorite artist on the soundtrack has to be the Daniel Pemberton TV Orchestra which dominates a majority of the artists on the CD with 18 tracks. If you don't already own this, I highly recommend picking it up.

Thunder, Lightning, Strike by The Go! Team:
From the first track alone, you should become hooked to this group. Their instrumentation and sound is somewhat similar to surf rock, soul, (modern day) indie, and electronica all in one neat package. "Get It Together" was featured on the LBP Soundtrack as the first song and is probably one of the best pieces on the album. It's very very catchy and an all around great listen. Another highly recommended CD from me.

Eagle vs. Shark Original Soundtrack:[/u]
I finally managed to hunt down this CD and add it to my collection after seeing the movie a year or so ago. This album has a bit more of an indie feel to it (which is right up my alley) and includes artists: The Phoenix Foundation, Luke Buda, Age And The Marvellous Medicine, and The Stone Roses. It's a very light-hearted CD with some nice instrumental songs that are sure to make you feel all tingly on the inside. I find it hard to truly explain how wonderful of an album this is, so again, all I can do is recommend you acquire it for yourself, or you can even look up some of the songs on youtube if you'd like.
I'll have more for you guys later!

This isn't a recent purchase for me, but I do highly recommend it to you guys. As one might be able to see, it's a chiptune Christmas album that has some interesting variations and arrangements of all of your Christmas favorites! Synecdoche, New York OST by Jon Brion
I haven't gotten around to listening to this one just yet, but from what I heard in the movie and being a fan of Brion's work, I like it a lot. It's similar to the Eternal Sunshine soundtrack he composed. I'll post more about this once I've listened to the whole thing.

Finally got that on vinyl a couple months back. I didn't realize it was a reissue until I got home. I was extremely disappointed.
Here's this week's haul.
On the left is Lightning Bolt -
Hypermagic Mountain. I've been looking for this for years, found it on eBay last week for way less than it's worth. It's the black vinyl version sadly, but it's still quite rare. One day I'll find the translucent blue version. It's a double vinyl, with an etched 4th side. Mint. I'll only open this thing to get it signed.
On the right, Cat Stevens -
Teaser And The Firecat. I just got this today. I was in the record shops looking for a couple albums I knew they wouldn't have in stock, then I saw this. One of my favorite albums of all time, for $2, with "Love John 24-2-72" on it. First pressing, heavily used, but there's something amazingly sentimental about it. It'll do until I can find a mint copy (doubtful).

I post shit I didn't pay for too. Though if I bought something physical I usually take a picture of it.
I only buy vinyl anymore and only if I really like the album. I don't mind supporting artists, but there's no way I'm buying anything off iTunes. I'd rather have free, superior copies (FLAC or V0) or something physical that won't be lost if my hard drive dies, thanks.
(Therefore, everything I posted above was a vinyl copy; my post would be 10x as long if I posted everything I've downloaded recently)

Saw these guys live just last week with My Chemical Romance
MCR was meh. But Blink fuckin rocked my face. Definitely a good album. Has more of an Angels and Airwaves sound to it, as in Tom Delong's sorta whiny, angsty vocals, but that's one of the reasons I love Tom's singing.
The whole thing wasn't as good as

Quote from: FloundermanClock;1903878You found Burzum in a record store? Damn thats lucky.
yeah bro shit was off the chain. it's just weird because usually in this particular record store it's just like tons of lionel richie and dokken ablums and shit and i'm all "meeeeeehhhh" but if you go in there on the right days they have some crazy shit like original minor threat singles and shit. they had a bauhaus record too but i had just enough money for the two and i'm like i'll probably come across another bauhaus record in my lifetime so i went for the Burzum
My record store had the Merzbox for a while. I wanted to buy it for the sheer novelty of owning it but 200 bucks is way too much.

yeah i feel like something like that would really come in handy. definitely not worth 200 bucks to buy something that is almost impossible to casually listen to though. lol.
I really like his album set Merzbient. It reminds me a lot of Chu Ishikawa who's one of my favorite industrial artists. I would of got that if they had it. We've been getting more weird japanese shit at my record store. They have everything by Boris now, I had no idea there was a market it my town for noisy sludge metal

i just can't do that whole noise-rock stuff. too much for me. in regards to industrial i really don't stray much beyond throbbing gristle and SPK and like only their more 'musical' stuff at that.
Merzbient is oddly musical and chill. Its not loud and angry. Check Chu out he rules

Coheed & Cambria: Afterman Ascension
6/10

This album is a bit of a mess. An enjoyable mess, but a mess.
With the return of Josh Eppard on drums, there is a clear attempt to return to the band's roots after a dissapointing release with Black Rainbow.
It's the story if Sirius Amory, the scientist who discovers the keywork which encompasses the solar system in the C&C universe. Sirius encounters (and his body is taken over by) various "entities." The album art is worth the ten bucks alone.. as it takes you through each of these possessions.
The album opens with a dramatic piano instrumental that contains elements of the classic Amory theme from their earlier work. It flows right into their first single, and the first entity encounter, Domino The Destitute, which could have been plucked straight off of IKSSE or GA1. So far, the "old school" Coheed fans will be ecstatic.
We then take a right turn into the title track. You know when Smashing Pumpkins comes on the radio and you immediately change the station? Yeah. Skip button.
Mothers Of Men is slightly enjoyable. The lyrical meter is almost hip-hopish at times... spewed with an Eminem like angst. No idea what they're singing about. Could've swore I heard the word Chewbacca in there.
Goodnight Fair Lady.. we're right back into classic Coheed. This sounds like Faint Of Hearts meets Blood Red Summer meets The Suffering. With nothing "new" to enjoy... I find myself skipping this too.
Now we meet the second entity.. with the most enjoyable track, the aptly named Holly Wood the Cracked. I say aptly because this has a Sunset Strip, Motley Crue, GnR kick in the kidneys to it. Raw riffs... raw lyrics.
Vic The Butcher comes next. Not a bad song, per se. More classic Coheed to enjoy. The reason it doesn't work is because Vic is supposed to be the most vicious of the entities.. with obvious throwbacks to Al The Killer in KS. But the song is inferior to the previous track, sucking the momentum out of the plot. Meh, maybe it's just me.
Well, Vic does a huge number on Sirius... and he is basically 'saved' by a kinder entity, Evagria The Faithful. We are now back in "stop trying to be artsy" mode. Like they're trying to be modern and retro at the same time. 70s groove funk meets R2-D2 beeps and whistles. It just doesn't work.
Like so many of their albums before, the album fades out on a chipmunky acoustic piece, this one called Subtraction. At this point, I've been losing interest since Holly Wood and usually just shut the thing off. Maybe one day I will listen to the entire last song.
i shit you not

Outrun is FUCKING great
I love this album so much, you can listen to the whole thing for free here (http://laurenbousfieldanyev3r.bandcamp.com/album/locked-into-phantasy). It's weird breakcore music, outside that I'm not sure how to describe it. I have never heard anything quite like this besides maybe Lauren's previous band Nero's Day At Disneyland. However This album is more "musical" I think. The vocals bring to mind Throbbing Gristle just a bit, the music is just all over the place and spans a wide variety of styles and emotions. Here's a couple songs I really liked off it.
Seraphim Sliding Backwards
That Was Everything That I Owned
Pulling Down Never
I guess it was intended to be obvious I already owned Cross, but I didn't, so I bought it two weeks ago.

I'm sorry if I'm raining on your parade, but I thought I'd check this out, and listened to it from track 13 onwards (almost an hour of music!!) Sometimes I listen to a mediocre, boring or bad album, and there are one or two standout tracks out of nowhere. Here, the only thing that really stood out was that two of the tracks were pretty much just the
Madoka and
Lucky Star theme songs, pitched up but otherwise unaltered, not even chopped up, with drums 'n' shit laid on top. And there was one track that ended in 30 seconds of silence.
I guess it's worth the dollar if there's one track on there you wanted, but otherwise it just felt like musical shovelware to me.
