I'm not paying more than 1 for a vial of horchata when I can get 40 ounces for 99 cents

My internet is out again, and there’ll be nobody around until Friday. So another god damn week without in the span of two months. I may well just switch to the other ISP with their ‘wireless’ connection at this rate

live the networking nerd dream: throw your isp into a panic by building better infrastructure than theirs in your region and getting your community on board

you know, though... that could actually just be being bad at real vector graphics in general, not necessarily inkscape sucking

of course, there's only one way to find out, and that's installing Inkscape 0.48 on a Snow Leopard virtual machine

barely related, the last time I tried inkscape was on a mac ten years ago. i was, again, too stupid to figure it out. Lot of shit about making curved lines with that weird START POINT—END POINT—CURVE POINT THAT YOU DON'T HAVE THE INSTINCT FOR that vector programs are wont to use. Inkscape is installed on this computer. This means that i installed it on purpose on this, then never launched it because of a bad memory that is probably wildly inaccurate at this point.

you know, though... that could actually just be being bad at real vector graphics in general, not necessarily inkscape sucking. pen tool is hard

I've used inkscape recently (and i have a better sense for how those brassiere bezier curves work now) and I felt like it was doing what I asked it to do. I forget if it crashed any, but if it did, not as much as "trying to use the brush tool" crashes flash

guys responsible for deciding what should be an emoji

remember that the japanese invented emoji, we must be sensitive to that which their culture holds valuable~nyan

also they work in the console but you'd better be willing to lean forward and squint

the stray emphasis pixels and closed eyes really makes it for me, it looks like the suns out *kiss* guns out

Linux is directly Linus + *NIX as a system. He fucking knew it'd take over as the system label

WHY DO YUO KEEP MISSPELIGN LUNIX???1

pelase stop breakign the forum

in other OPEN SORES news i validated my sdf account because i really really wanted to use vi

oh I was also gonna respond to one of the stallman hate posts but forgot2quote

1) if you didn't know, there's a debian package called vrms named in his honor
2) it's interesting that we were talking about veganism just now, because stallman's like the free software equivalent of an insistent vegan. it's like, you're serving burgers, and you remembered to make a couple veggie burgers, and stallman won't have one because you unthinkingly put cheese on them
this means more veggie cheeseburgers for me, of course, but still it's kind of nice to have a guy who's so unbelievably hard headed that he literally embodies the extreme authleft approach to software freedom, and he's already done all the thinking about the shit you don't really give a shit about. for fun!

if we're not thinking about weird secondary impacts of alternative lifestyles, one person going vegan should make a tiny net improvement in the world, but it's impractical for most people given the resources available to them -- like, an isolated novice vegan would have to likely start by paying more for special goods that followed their rules, and trying not to fuck up getting their basic nutrients in the process. it'd probably also be easier if they already had some experience with being vegetarian. free software is pretty similar, except that using linux as your daily driver isn't anywhere near as limiting as it used to be (or as limiting as even being vegetarian is). of course some of us have transcended the need to run any software originally written for windows, but you'll get there someday, bald chinned one.
similarly, while I feel like most vegans would be thoroughly unimpressed with my efforts to make the world a better place, it's nice to have hardcore eggplant thumpers because sometimes it's by way of communities that are anal about seeking out alternatives that you find something that you can use

it's less than 10 degrees outside and toasty warm in my house and i've never been so happy for a basic utility in my fucking life

I'd probably be pretty happy with my basic utility if I'd just spent weeks putting in everything that made it work

Jokes on you I was BAITING YOU THIS ENTIRE TIME

How does it feel for the tables to turn on you?

oh yes, octopusclock, it's definitely different people looking foolish now

I reiterate that I have not insulted anyone and was pulling moderation duties. A thread about this has already been gassed, and the fact that another thread, about that topic, has stood here for so long today is quite baffling.

a reminder that backseat moderation, no matter how old you are, is still obnoxious

ok now everyone's said their piece right? :^)

bringing emoji to math purely to haunt the people who hate letters in math is a powerful idea

I now really don't want to know what Gen Alpha's math textbooks look like

veece i have asked you several times about your extensive experience with xfce and now that I'm even closer to pulling the trigger I'd like to ask your preferred theme (the one based on xcom is tempting) and your thunar modules because, let's be honest, your de of choice is u-u-u-u-ugly by default

i know it is xcfe because of all the other posts i've made on the subject

this monkey's paw must be the good shit

dude! bro! fvwm 3 1.0.0 dropped, dude! radical! thought about switching to testing instead of stable for the updated dependencies so I could get to work on a brand new config file, but I think I'm just going to wait it out and be surprised!!

i know you're probably bummed that NsCDE is built with fvwm 'cause you've decided to go with xfce, but don't fret, someone's looking out for you!

i definitely for sure use gtk themes, thunar, and xfdesktop, instead of letting pcmanfm, which doesn't crash anywhere near as much as it used to, look and act however it wants to!

...I guess that's one more thing to add to the stack of things to screw with eventually
