General Discussion / McCain suspends campaign
September 25, 2008, 05:52:00 PM
McCain has suspended his campaign to head back to Washington and try to fix our economic crisis. He's looking to cancel his first presidential debate with Obama as well.

QuoteMcCain said he's temporarily canceling campaign events and advertising to return to Washington and join talks on the Treasury's plan for the U.S. financial system, and urged his Democratic rival to join him in an urgent meeting with President Bush and congressional leaders.

The Arizona Republican also called for the first presidential debate, scheduled for Friday evening, to be delayed as lawmakers continue to hammer out modifications to the plan.

McCain also cancelled his appearance on Letterman, to which Dave wasn't too happy about either. Keith Olbermann replaced McCain as a guest.

Gaming & Technology / XBLA kills the Virtual Console
September 16, 2008, 04:39:29 PM
Let's try to get some fanboy discussion going...

I just traded my Wii for a 360 last night, and I began thinking about why I used the Xbox's market place so much more than the virtual console on the Wii. In fact, the XBLA alone pretty much makes owning a 360 worth it. I was up last night redownloading old games I used to own, and I didn't even bother popping in a game.

The games on the 360 have leaderboards, demos, and downloadable content. There are small $5 games that can kick serious ass. And best of all, you get to try demos before you buy them.

The Wii has mostly games you've already played before. That's alright though. I'm always down for retro stuff, but is anything original? There isn't any online connectivity taken advantage of, either. For instance, that's great that you can download Mario Kart 64, but you can't verse friends online. There's nothing new.

You could argue that Xbox Live costs money per month, and I could argue that you have to get a stupid new controller for some virtual console games. I would much rather have Xbox Live points than Wii points any day of the week. Anyone else feel the VC is lackluster?

I can't comment on the PS3 cause I haven't owned or even used one yet, but you guys can fill me in on how they're doing too... :teach:

General Discussion / Happy Labor Day
September 01, 2008, 04:54:08 PM
How is everyone spending theirs?

No work for me! I'll be going to the a baseball game tonight. I recently moved from San Diego to Los Angeles, and the Dodgers are playing the Padres tonight. I don't care who wins as long as I'm getting drunk.

Ah yes, America's pastime... :salute:

General Discussion / Bunnies and Sharks

This is yet another student film from my high school days. Finally uploaded it to youtube. It was longer than 10 minutes, so I had to break it into two parts. This project originated as a live adaptation of Sonne.

It's a 17 minute short film about some American POWs looking to escape a Nazi work camp.

Enjoy. Comments and votes appreciated.

Entertainment / How I Met Your Mother
August 26, 2008, 07:50:26 PM
This show is awesome. The writing is good, too. Is anybody else watching it?  The story is a guy telling his kids about "How I Met Your Mother". It centers around five friends in the search of love, etc.

I got the first two seasons on DVD, and I can't wait to get more.

OKAY SO. I'm going to borrow the theme from the Always Sunny in Phili thread and link pics of the cast and describe them. But I'm kind of lazy so I'm not going to drop every last detail. That's what imdb is for. But seriously, it's best to watch the show all the way from the beginning. That way you catch all references and inside jokes, and there are plenty of them.

Barney played by Neil Patrick Harris. The best character on the show in my opinion. He's a complete womanizer, and he has no shame. He's awesome. And he's going to tell you that atleast once an hour. He always has insane plans to get some action. And it works! Sometimes. Even if he doesn't get any action, he still has a legendary story about it.

This is Ted. Played by some guy. He's the main character. He's okay. He does the right thing, etc. The average dude.

Lily played by Allison Hannigan. Remember her from American Pie? She's cute and charming. She's engaged to Marshall at the start of the show. She's a kindergarten teacher that loves to paint.

Marshall played by Jason Segel. Remember him from Forgetting Sarah Marshall? Yeah. He's funny and has his moments. In the show, he's studying to be a lawyer. Eventually he winds up working underneath Barney. He is Ted's best friend. Though Barney would disagree with that statement.

Robin. A Canadian news girl. The main love interest of Ted at the start of the show.

Oh yeah, and it's narrated by this guy from the year 2030

WHOA.

Guest stars include people like Wayne Brady, Mandy Moore, Enrique Iglesias, Britney Spears, and James Vanderbeek.

Now go watch this show so it is never cancelled.

General Discussion / My student film, Locks
August 22, 2008, 02:22:07 PM
This student film was made during my senior year of high school, so it's about 3-4 years old. I've finally got around to uploading it to youtube. I'll let you guess who I am. (Not hard)

It's called Locks.
It's a take on the classic fairy tale of Golidlocks.
10 minutes of fun. Enjoy.

If you liked it, vote 5.

I have another student film about American POWs, but it's 17 minutes long so I have to break it into two parts for youtube. I'll upload that soon too. Maybe by the end of the day.

Necrapolis / "You made me believe in God again"
July 30, 2008, 03:16:41 PM
You're dating this girl, things are great, and you go really well together. You can even imagine yourself marrying this girl one day. You've never had feelings like that before, and she feels the same.

She says to you one day that you made her believe in God again. You're a good person. She believes that you and her were both meant to be together, and God created you for her, and her for you.

What is your reaction?
Honored? Confused? Scared? Pressured?
Think that's cool? Turned off?

You could start your reply by explaining your religious orientation. Obviously some people are going to react differently than others. Explain your gut response and/or how you would react or continue the conversation. I'm looking for a wide range of responses.

General Discussion / I'm calling the police on you!
July 02, 2008, 08:42:57 PM
So get this. I was dating this girl from Michigan for a month. I live in California, so it was long distance, etc etc. I visited her a couple times, but long story short, I broke up with her. She faked her suicide,  and then I stopped all contact with her.

My crime? Borrowing a book and a Tamagotchi key chain from my ex who lives in Michigan. Maybe she even wants the gifts she gave me back too. A necklace and bracelet.

I don't feel like giving them back either. It's not even worth it. That's what happens when you break up. She fucked me over, and I don't care. If the cops knock on my door, sure, I'll let them ship it for me... but I bet they were on the other line laughing their asses off too. They have much better things to do than worry about some crazy ex's vendetta.

So...
Anybody with me on taking a dump in a box? Amirite?

And btw, her default is a picture of her in my driveway.
Anyone else think that's creepy?

Gaming & Technology / Gamespot has gone weak sauce
June 24, 2008, 02:06:06 PM
I visit Gamespot for my gaming info every now and then, and I've respected most of their scores until recently...

They've given both GTA4 and MGS4 both perfect 10's.

That used to be an impossible achievement on the site saved for the most epic of games. Do these games really deserve perfect 10's? I'm just not seeing it... yet... maybe...

I'm hearing that MGS4 is an interactive movie. And GTA4... maybe it is a 10? I figured it to be around the 9.0+ range. Does it revolutionize the way GTA3 did?

Did we hit the gaming renaissance or what?
