General Discussion / Some unfinished flash thing
« on: September 05, 2011, 08:54:52 AM »
So May last year Discoball chilled Grey or something and I decided to make a Flash about how he was a Nazi. I didn't think it was turning out as good as it was in my head, so I didn't finish it. It would probably have worked if only it had music. Anyway, I dag it up todei, so here you go.

Gaming & Technology / Loquat Soundboard (TTS)
« on: June 08, 2011, 03:11:36 AM »
Remember that TTS I wrote with the command line interface? Well now I've got this bit, so that a user can hear what the files are doing, and doesn't have to read my mind to know what they're doing to that poor machine. It has invisible bugs and many gaps, so I'm not releasing it, but I thought I'd let y'all know what's going on in Loki Clock's R&D Department.

General Discussion / So I can pretty much understand spoken Dutch
« on: May 29, 2011, 09:43:00 AM »
I took a German course this Spring. At 0:51 of this randomly selected video I had, for the first time, the feeling of total comprehension of whole foreign clause - not just getting every word and being able to assemble the meaning immediately after, but actually processing it in the moment and capturing the exact emotion of everything. I have not had that with any other language. Obviously not Old Norse, but nor Icelandic or German. To me this sounds like an Icelandic person (compare pronunciations for "líkami, leyfa") with German and English words thrown in. "Zoveel [potenzionelle]" cued me to start processing in-the-moment. More than knowing the words, it was clearly seeing the emotion of "so much potential." Then the next part sounded like muttered English, and the end like funny German. After that moment I tried to stay in the act and ended up being able to understand almost the whole video.

Couldn't finish because I lost my light. Light leaking in from covered window and light from computer monitor. Little ambient light.

With Benoit Mandelbrot that makes two of my heros dead this year. I didn't enjoy playing guitar until I started listening to The Magic Band.

Open admission competition. In this one your parts must be continuous scenes from a rough or abstract, ≤100 character plot. Communication between collaborators, at least among those with adjacent parts, is thus required. I'm testing the waters, and if you guys show interest in these harder collaborations I have a couple others up my sleeve.

Winner chooses plot, # of open parts, any specific division of parts, and time length of parts from 30-45 seconds.

Specifications: 500x400, 24 fps, white bg, AS 2.0
Time: Dec 10-Dec 30
Plot & Parts
A geocache is found containing a puzzle whose solution causes an auspicious encounter.

Part 1, 30s: Leaving home until opening the geocache
Part 2, 30s: Finding the puzzle until discovering the solution
Part 3, 30s: The cause of the encounter, the encounter, and the end

Make sure your contact info is up to date!

I just found this out. If you get errors from gdb like:
warning: Unable to read symbol for "@executable_path/../Frameworks/etc"
Then you should read this brief explanation.

I'm just past page 300. I'm kind of losing interest in the characters in the Epiphyte storyline. It's good, but I'm prepared to begin eagerly awaiting the end at some point. I'm not a big fiction reader, so it's a good sign that this holds my attention at all. First few chapters were like HOLY FUCK HE KNOWS EVERYTHING I THINK but then he went weak on the math a bit and it doesn't give me that awe of historical perspective.
