ApplishClock

the long kiss goodnight (1996)

This movie has Samuel L. Jackson.

The Rock Double Feature:

Snitch: Fuckin good, gigantic buildup. The Rock has to get into the drug business to save his son, sounds generic, but it's pulled off very well.

Pain & Gain: Fuckin crazy, one of those 'idiots try to pull off a crime', The Rock is hilarious, worth watching for sure

Quote from: RobClock;1958704Bakshi is one of the great names of the animation dark age. Learn some respect.

Robby, I know this. in all honesty yeah i do respect his efforts and his life but DAMN do his movies suck, im sorry, they are not good. was the art one of a kind? yeah, but seriously those fucking movies make me barf.

Wizards? holy shit learn to write a script

edit: not that i could write anything better than wizards its just, fuck

don jon - it was funny but definitely do not take your gf.

In terms of plot it's sort of your typical rom-com affair, with the kinds of jokes you'd expect in a movie about pornography addiction and stuff, but JGL manages to carry it well. There are two female leads, neither of whom are really up to par imo. I wasn't really sure what to expect but for some reason I had high hopes. It's definitely a "watch it on netflix on a boring friday night" kind of movie.

Prisoners

I liked it. Dragged a bit tho. Probably the only movie i've ever liked Jake Gyllenhall or whatever the fuck his name is. Hugh jackman is pretty great too. Good performances all around. Reminded me of silence of the lambs. Speaking of which I think I'll go watch that now.

Captain Phillips

Easily Tom Hanks best movie in quite some time. Good plot, good acting. Probably not worth seeing in theaters (nothing in it that you coudn't get out of it right at home) but definitely an awesome movie.

Gravity - cuaron's two fisted symbolism is nauseating, first of all. is that a birthing metaphor? yes. yes. yes. yes. yes. aaand roll credits.
cool a long take wow such coordination Oscar material here folks wow. almost as cool as Rope.

Sandra bullock is gonna die hahaha no she isn't wait yes she is whew no she isn't that was a close one wait uh oh she's definitely gonna die this time
I like how by the time she gets to the final stupid metal space thingy they don't even pretend she isn't going to live she just spider-mans around the outside of it

at 91 minutes, it doesn't feel its length, but it does feel episodic and insubstantial. this could have been an amazing 20 minutes. it was a pretty good hour and a half.

everything good you've heard is probably true but jfc I did not care. 7/10.

Slurpee

when I say almost as cool as Rope, I don't mean Rope is the superior film, btw, I mean Hitchcock was a somewhat hacky genre director and nobody takes Rope's single-shot bullshit very seriously, but for some reason since cuaron is pretentious when using the same technique we assume he wouldn't put that effort in if it didn't have some underlying purpose,
but we're utterly hoodwinked in that regard, because the long shots in this did nothing that couldn't have been put across with more conventional direction. it's cuaron's answer to the faux-wonderment of the indie movie slow 360 spinning character shot, placing technique and reputation above meaning.

Gravity- went out and saw it today with my girl, and we both went in expecting a masterpiece and walked with a less articulated version of slurpee's reaction. Basically, it didn't do it for either of us. YES it's beautiful and in space and atmospheric but at the same time i didn't feel it was any kind of really great art, I walked out kind of going, huh, so it was the bare basics of what i expected. I don't know, I wasn't exactly gripped by the action and the close calls. It's not bad by any means and it has an effect that you will feel walking out of the theater, it may be that you, too walk out ready to kiss the ground, in a way I was, but at the same time i looked back on the experience and I just don't think the script was all that good. people go to see films for all sorts of reasons, maybe to see some high end special effects and breath taking visuals, but i go to enjoy the script, essentially, and i dont think this film had a very interesting one.

Dazed and Confused (1993)

A mushy love letter from the 1990s to the mid-'70s, disguised as a teen sex-'n'-drugs movie. Not bad, but totally forgettable. It's deliberately not too heavy handed with drama or a message, but that unfortunately translates to flat characters that don't develop. Nobody ever gets in trouble. Canonical dad-rock soundtrack.
<Marlin Clock> This thread seems proof positive that divisiveness at any level is usually bad for the Clock Crew.
<PhantomCatClock> are we talking about the same clock crew

Slacker is this movie that's totally rad but you have no idea why. like if you try to figure out objectively what's so rad about it you wont even figure it out but you'll still think it's rad as fuck. also the butthole surfers are in it.

Quote from: DumpsterClock;1947838i watched Snow On Tha Bluff and i'm still not entirely sure on whether or not what i saw was real footage. unbelievably heavy, gritty shit. great movie.

i just watched it its fake

RobClock

DW 50th: The Day of The Doctor
It was basically just an episode of Doctor Who with a half decent budget. Pretty big on exposition dumps, as more recent Moffat scripts seem bad for, but the interaction between Tennant, Smith, and Hurt was more than enough for me.

pop-tart

Anyone who thought Batman & Robin or Attack Of The Clones was the worst bastardization of all that is holy has clearly not yet seen A Christmas Story 2.

I saw a coyote catch a bunny rabbit once. He snapped its neck with his jaws and then thrashed it around while it screamed in pain until it finally went limp. As harrowing and horrifying as it was, I could not stop looking out of pure fascination (or maybe awe of God's ultimate cruelty).

I feel even dirtier now for not changing the channel yet...

2 and 3 honestly weren't that bad aside from the god awful romance sections. I hear the Phantom Edit actually turns it into a good movie but I haven't bothered with it yet.
