well, OK, man.

but still, the book of enoch* is still a good source:

in one part of ''enoch'', it labels crows as birds equal to the fallen angels, aka the 'nephilims', beings who mated with human women and created giants, aka the ''anakim'' (which means giants).

Leviticus 11:13-15 KJV
13. And these are they which ye shall have in abomination among the fowls; they shall not be eaten, they are an abomination: the eagle, and the ossifrage, and the ospray,
14. And the vulture, and the kite after his kind;
15. EVERY RAVEN after his kind…

http://www.sheshbazzardaq.com/enoch.html
(the part about the unclean fowls of heaven is at the top 1/4 of the page on the link.)

*i guess it could be the book that was found in ethiopia, and its non-cannon with the usual bible stories, but hey, it might have a basis behind the fear of crows that the medieval people had in folklore. (either with some help from the church, or on their own, based on the people's fear of death, and the (un)natural(??) connection between crows and death/scavanging/''the eating of the dead'', an act which would normally freak them out. (even tho it was a necessary action, since crows+various other scavengers were needed in order to clear an area from dead people(in wars)/dead animals.)

with that being said, perhaps i confused the churches persecution of crows with the persecution of vultures/of other avian creatures.

the owl thing happened 100% tho. i am very certain about it.
(and all the historical sources match.)

an other possible situation is that i confused folklore tales with religious animal-labeling.(for the medieval period, that is).

....
i think that we should move on.
talking about how i suck in corvine demonology isnt really helping us, in any way.(except for the crowd's amusement, which is something that i also enjoy).

PS: also here's an 100% real drawing of a witch holding a crow, its amazing:
its in here
You're a goofy fucker aren't you. First you talk about the book of Enoch, which, as you mentioned, was "rediscovered" in Ethiopia, in the early seventeenth century. Snippets of it can be found here and there in the rather obscure works of some of the lesser known Church Fathers, but there is nothing that would indicate any kind of prevalence in medieval society, not among the commoners, not even among the clergy. If that's the case, how can you then assert it's a possible basis for a widespead (folkloric) belief? It's not impossible, just extremely unlikely. (And I'm not going to examine every single one of these snippets, but does a single one of them even mention your precious crows? You see what I'm driving at, not just with this specific point, but in general here?) Then there's Leviticus: don't eat crow, words we can all live by, although in this particular case maybe you should consider it. Just because a crow was deemed a filthy beast, unfit for consumption, did not mean the animal was particularly evil. Your quote mentions the eagle, which became, after some rather ambiguous mentions in the Bible, a symbol of fortitude and might, because of (despite?) the Romans. Hell, the eagle became a universal symbol of John the Evangelist and his Gospel. So just because the Bible said one thing, that didn't necessarily translate directly into the practices and beliefs of medieval culture.

"an other possible situation is that i confused folklore tales with religious animal-labeling"
Why? Do you think the author of my source said to herself, "Right, I'm writing a comprehensive and authoritative study into all aspects of witchdom in medieval and Renaissance culture, but you know, I fucking hate folklore, I'll just disregard anything even remotely folkloristic"? Don't be obtuse.

What else? Your weird link doesn't work. I already agreed on the owl thing, in fact I confirmed it and elaborated on it? Thank you for teaching me about the necessity of cleaning up dead bodies and the helpful role scavengers play in that? About E, the newer one is posted somewhere in this thread. If you want to make a tribute movie just make a tribute movie, you've been asking this for years, stop asking and start making or just stop asking, either way is fine by me. Happy Kwanzaa Peapod!

sir! i didnt meant that as a way to disregard your source, or to nulify its facts* or its significance, no.
i was merely stating that ''i could be wrong'' about this whole ''church hated crows'' thing, and it COULD belong in the realm of simple (medieval?)superstition between common people, instead of an organised anti-crow movement by the church.
i hope that you will see my merit.

well, the eagle as a symbol of power derives from the ancient greek mythology, in which, god zeus could transform into an eagle, as shown in ganymedes story below:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ganymede_(mythology)
''[...] he(Ganymede) is abducted by Zeus, in the form of an eagle, to serve as cup-bearer in Olympus.''

he is also shown in various coins as an eagle:
''On other Cretan coins (Zeus)Velchanos is represented as an eagle and in association with a goddess celebrating a mystic marriage.''
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zeus#Zeus_Velchanos

and it can also be seen here:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eagle_(heraldry)
''Mythologically, it has been connected by the Greeks with the God Zeus, by the Romans with Jupiter, [...]''

ofcourse, later on, it was (also) used by the romans, who in turn, got inspired by its symbolisms in the story of ''titanomachy'' (war of the titans), and they used it as a symbol of their empire.
(i think it's also mentioned in fulgentius "mythologies" )
aaand, we started using it (again) in our flags/emblems as byzantine symbols (since we were the eastern part of the roman empire for a long time, AKA=the eastern roman empire=byzantium.
but thats an other story.

anyways, thank you for the info+for the seal of approval(in regards to me making grey-themed works).

*the term should be used lightly when it comes to books such as ''maleficus maleficarum'', and all facts should be checked, esp. the varying levels of validity or historical siginificance, depending on the subject of each book/topic. once again, this is meant to be read by future readers, its not for grey clock. he is right in all previous statements listed above.

billiards is a game very much like pool except that it is called billiardds.
what is strange/cool/sexxy is that the the table is from a green matarial it is a nice matarial+a felt matarial but there are no holes in the corners or "pockets" (like your pants) which is the tenical term.

have you ehard about this?

i dont thin kyouve heard about this even though youve displayed considerable knowledge on the subject of snooker before here is a slew of very boilerplate facts about billiards
irregardless: you hit the (white) ball that is wit a stick (my name sometimes is christhestick... it is my pesudonim) the table is of wood or metal or plastic, some times there is a lamp above it for you to see everything. lamps give off light because of electricity which gose through a wire in a glass ball.
you can have it (a table) at home or in a pool (not for swimming) hall the balls you must hit have colors, blue, red, brown, another color you might not know is yellow..... . .. . . . .. . . . .

I want to get excited for the new pirates of the caribbean movie because the first one was pretty good and it feels like they're going for a fast five/halloween h2o/x-men first class kind of "we decided to make a good one" sequel. it's probably going to end up more of a sin city: dame to kill for/x-files: I want to believe/blair witch 2/rings than a casino royale but I'm hoping for at least a predators or a jurassic world

FLOUNDERMAN_CLOCK

I honestly didn't expect Predators to be half as good as it was. I was expecting it to be a bland rehash like the prequel to The Thing but it turned out to be a worthy sequel and logical progression of the series. Also "Predators" is just a perfect name. With a name calling back to Aliens you can't really afford to be a shit movie. I've never seen any of the Pirates sequels though. The first one was fun but I figured it was in the same situation as Land Before Time so I ignored the rest.

also bb10's owl post was great totally forgot to mention that earlier.
