I feel like pretending to be interested in what's happened over the past year.

So.

What's happened over the past year?

I drove for two and a half hours to go see The Flaming Lips with my girlfriend at Merriweather Post Pavillion today.

I can die in peace, I will never see a better live show.

First off, where we were situated. We were right up against the rail in the concert pit. The very front, almost dead center.

I have attached visual aids from my phone.

Anyhow, first act, Stardeath and White Dwarfs, came on. You can tell they're protégées to the Flaming Lips, both because because of the show and because they're from Oklahoma City. Strobe lights, smoke machines, fantastic visuals. The music was much better live than it was on the album, like in most cases, but the visual aspect really enhanced it. It was a great performance, hands down.



Second, Explosions in the Sky. I actually felt they were the weak link if there was one. They were way stripped down and their performance consisted mostly of the guitarists waddling around stage. The great part was that all their songs ran together, with brief periods of soft playing for applause, which really played up the sonic focus of their show. Wasn't bad, but it wasn't really as engrossing as the others. probably because they're an instrumental band sandwiched between two visual/vocal bands.



Last, The Flaming Lips. Before I go on about this, I would like to say I am probably one of the luckiest folks to ever attend a show.

I got to be the giant inflatable butterfly and dance on the side of the stage while my girlfriend danced in a She-Yeti suit.

The show itself was everything I built it up to be and more. They had the giant screen, the balloons, the confetti, everything. Just... wow. They also played many of their sing-along songs like Yoshimi, Fight Test, and they closed with Do You Realize?? But everything was awe inspiring, the music, the brotherhood, the atmosphere in the amphitheater... I really can't describe it other than by saying "HOLY SHIT I WAS ON STAGE WITH THE FLAMING LIPS".



Anyways, now that I've shared mine, feel free to share your concert experiences.

I reiterate my statement from last year.

I need various sources for random video clips, preferably free. I thought "Hey, the Clock Crew might know where I can find stock footage!"

So, Clock Crew, you wouldn't happen to know where I can find old newsreel footage and perhaps clips from famous movies? If someone can tell me how to reliably extract these from youtube, that may be preferable, but I'll settle for a stock footage archive of some sort.

And yes, I've tried google, but I was wondering if you super cool cats were hiding anything.
