Quote from: Baby Gangster;1702966I dont understand why other companies arent doing this same sorta thing.
Gradius, Contra, Castlevania Rebirth, New Super Mario Bros. Wii, Rocket Knight, Excitebike, Needlemouse ...

It should be pretty clear now that Japan sees 'retro gaming' as the next best thing.

Gaming & Technology / Sean Malstrom

Maybe you feel that Nintendo are currently succesful with the Wii and DS for more reasons than just because of "casual gaming" and "gimmicky controls" and that there is a far bigger reason than generalizing it into this.
Well, Sean Malstrom is the man to point out said bigger reason as he carefully researches everything that Nintendo has said and done throughout their history as video game makers among many other things.

His main page is about explaining Nintendo's two main strategies during this gen (and during the NES days too), the Blue Ocean Strategy and the Theory of Disruption and how they apply to the Wii and DS among with a few other gaming-related articles.
His blog is about more recent occurances in gaming and, as one can expect from blogs, he also throws a lot of his own opinion into them.

You're probably asking now where to start. I'd say you should begin first with "Birdmen and the Casual Fallacy", his most famous article and the one I've first read as well. There he carefully explains the reasons behind the Wii's weak 3rd party support and what should be done to remedy it. It also is still (sadly) up to date.

Sean Malstrom also correctly predicted the Wii's success in 2006 back when the general consenus was that Nintendo would be in third place again and also predicted the DSi's functions and exact purpose months before it was revealed.

Though he has a rather cocky attitude and likes to elaborate on the smallest things, I still find him to be very informative and enjoyable to read. You shouldn't also dismiss him as a Nintendo fanboy, as he's been known to critisize many a fan favorite, including Super Mario Galaxy and Metroid: Other M.

Quote from: TrickyClock;1687720Now the hat drama begins again like the one with the halos.

fuck
Seriously? I've only seen a few trolls saying something along the lines of "oh great, a $45 hat" but other than that it really isn't of the same scale as the halo incident.

Haha, I was amused throughout the entire video!

Related.

As for me, my DSLite's hinge (unsurprisingly) broke so I'll get a DSi sooner or later. I'm not sure where to get the regular DSi or this one though.

Since it hasn't been posted here yet, allow me to do it:

A series of Halloween updates is coming out starting tomorrow.

The first update is gonna include five achievements that allow you to unlock a few Halloween-themed hats.

Also TF2 is now for sale for a laughable $2.50 for the next hour as of this post.

Those 33 pages were a very great read.
Too bad you can't place bets anymore though.

Revised versions even date back to the NES. Super Mario Bros. 3 v1.1 renamed the item names that were based on enemies into English ones (Jugem's Cloud -> Lakitu's Cloud, Kuribo's Shoe -> Goomba's Shoe).
