Liquids can't have different gravities (unless one is on another planet?).. doesn't he mean densities?

Quote from: clammo;1884003specific gravity is a measurement of density with respect to water

okay, what?

Quote from: clammo;1884008ok so you know how in the clip the red liquid is sitting below the yellow liquid thats because the red liquid is denser/heavier/higher specific gravity than the yellow liquid.

its like if you drop a rock into the ocean it will sink to the bottom but if you drop a stick of wood into the ocean its gonna float.

... yeah, exactly the same deal about density... okay.

All this talk about density and gravity and no WiiClock to fuck with.

Quote from: clammo;1884012it is exactly density. as a ratio. instead of writing it like "oh well this piece of poop is 14 g/cm^3" you write it as "this piece of poop has 1.73 the density of water" or wahtever

Gotcha.

I don't see the appeal in that show at all. It's horrible.

If I want to see a former child actor in a quasi-hip situation comedy, I'll watch How I Met Your Motha

Hey guys I'm socially awkward.  Cue laugh track.  Repeat for 21 minutes.

I really don't get this show. I first heard of it a few years back when I was talking about Star Trek with one of my friends and another friend overheard and mentioned that I would probably like this due to it making frequent references to Sci-Fi shows like that. The first time I saw it, I figured it was just another mediocre sitcom, but every time I've seen it since then, my opinion has worsened significantly.

How is it funny? Is the joke that they're smart? Is the joke that they're socially awkward? I've sat through about a dozen episodes of this stuff and I think I smirked, on average, about once an episode.

I've always disliked sitcoms but this is one of the worst. It's like they remade Friends but left out anything likeable about the characters.

I don't get how people like it either. I've never laughed once when I watch it.

They try to make it seem like the show constantly references super-obscure movies/comics/ect, but all they do is make jokes like "[GENERIC NERD THING] sure isn't like real life!" or "Hey, this reminds me of [SCIENCE]".
Seriously, Star Trek isn't some sort of cult tv series anymore.

It is basically "HAHAHA LOOK AT THOSE NERDS THEY ARE FUNNY BECAUSE THEY ARE NERDS"

It is amazing without the laugh track because it forces you to laugh at them being incredibly awkward. Instead they stick with the 'safe' laugh track shenanigans.

The show is essentially aimed at that kind of "jock" bro kind of guy. It reinforces what he thinks nerds are and consequently reinforces how he thinks of himself in relation to nerds, which is that he is superior. On top of this it just uses the same old sitcom formula and scenarios that have been hammered into every bodies subconscious, so he doesn't get too confused. This feeling of ease and superiority make it popular among the regular idiot.

It also seems to have a side audience of actual nerds who just have no taste and shit themselves at the mention of something that like in a television program.

It's actually pretty great without the laughtrack. I'd watch a whole show like this.
