I'm sure all of you have heard by now about the evil baby eating Ugandan warlord people are tweeting about. If you haven't, a group called "The Invisible Children" posted a video on Youtube about about how evil this one warlord called Joseph Kony isn't going to stop being a dick and that everyone should share it. The video went viral and now i'm seeing "STOP KONY" messages on my newsfeed every few seconds.
What these people don't know is that The Invisible Children are a bunch of lying bastards (http://visiblechildren.tumblr.com/) who are not as white as they paint themselves. Also, in completely unrelated news, oil has been found in Uganda. Removing a village-smashing warlord will balance the country and gaining favour with the government, and then maybe giving the US access to their oil? Where have we seen this before?
I'm disappointed.

Thanks for giving me some hands on info on what I already had a urge to express... I'm into politics in Sweden and there are no worse facebookers than politics, seen Kony linked around 15020 times... Hate when people suddenly care about something that they didn't because some documentary, yes awareness is good but being skeptical is even more so.

Even without hearing the negative things about it- is it wrong for me to just not give a flying shit? I watched that documentary and all it seemed to me like was preachy propaganda. Kony's fucked with tens of thousands of people and was indicted as a war criminal over six years ago. If this is how it finally catches up with him I have no problem with it.
Inivisble Children is just and advocacy group. This most likely won't be the end of Kony, but expect to see some more videos from these guys now.
Invisible Children and the Kony 2012 project has done wonderful things for bringing awareness to the plight's of the Ugandan people but it is hardly a refutable charity.

Each failed attack against the LRA has lead to thousands of deaths and even more kidnappings. Such things have even occurred under US supervision. Charities such as this might seem commendable but are in reality quite dangerous. Warmongers and slave-traders should not be dealt with by tossing around pamphlet's, protests and spending this weeks rent on a foreign military with questionable values.

look i understand this is a popular sentiment among people uneducated in how the budget and foreign aid work, but the assertion here is patently false.
while the domestic homeless and impoverished are a very real and serious issue, scaling back foreign aid has absolutely nothing to do with the amount left over to be invested into helping the problem here. the amount of the federal budget alotted to foreign aid is something like one tenth of one percent and is entirely independent of whether or not people are serious about combating any kind of issue within our own borders. almost all popular theories in modern ethics say that the united states should be allocating
vastly more to foreign aid, and that people in general should be more charitable than they are.
