So the search function didn't bring up any actual discussion threads for Diablo 3. I am surprised. I'm sure any of you reading the thread already know what Diablo is so explaining the game would feel awfully self serving.
At any rate, the open beta has been going on since yesterday. It ends Monday. Battle.net and DRM issues aside, this game is FUN. It's probably going to be a day 1 buy for me. I don't buy barely any games these days, but I'm not going to be able to pass D3 up. Hopefully Starcraft 2: HOTS wont launch until close to the holidays, because after getting D3 I won't be able to get anything else for a while.
I've been playing the Witch Doctor, which will probably end up being what I start as on launch day. I've heard that public multiplayer is currently just sort of a bunch of people in a server doing whatever they want, but co-op with friends is super easy to do. If your friend is playing you can just join him through the friends list, easy.
The graphics are fantastic, the atmosphere is great (screw the naysayers) and the combat is satisfying. Great animation and soundwork make attacks and spells feel like they have a powerful impact, it's far and away from the old days of D2.
Release date is May 15th, in case anyone interested hadn't heard. Is anyone else picking this up near launch? If so, It would be fun to be able to play this with some of you.
Spent hours today trying to get on the beta, finally did about 2 hours back and just finished playing co-op with a friend of mine. Fantastic. Absolutely fantastic. So glad i pre-ordered this. :)

:hi5:
I'm going to be doing co-op with my brother a lot tomorrow, but when it gets released we should definitely play. I want to make sure I have a chance to try all 5 classes before the beta ends on monday.
Quote from: SoBe Clock;1904564The graphics are fantastic, the atmosphere is great (screw the naysayers)
I just turned down the gamma on the game so it felt more atmospherically correct. haha
I planned on picking it up. Hopefully I'll have enough money then. Never got in the beta though.
I really wish they didn't go with World of Warcrafts "pauldrons the size of houses" character design philosophy.
I have tyhe annual pass, so i will be playing on the 15th. was not able to get into the beta though i did get intothe panda one. shit is buggy as hell.
Well I played Diablo 2 for like five years so I am installing the beta as we speak. If it is any good I'll probably buy the game. Which is also really rare for me, the last game I didn't get out of some discount bin or whatever was Lord of Destruction.
I played as a monk a few days ago. Probably gonna be the class I go with. Haven't had as much time to play this weekend due to work and school but I did manage to finish the beta in one sitting.
I'm pretty happy with it. My only complaints stem from Leah being kind of lame and the graphics aren't as awesome as I think they could be. (sc2 looks better) I also think the areas are a little too linear. I'm hoping they'll get bigger and more open as the game progresses.
Does anybody know if the dungeons are randomly generated or not?

I think some dungeons are randomly generated. Even parts of the regular world are. Regardless it does indeed feel too linear and unless I'm missing something they dumbed down the skills and possibilities for varying builds significantly. I only base that conclusion on not being able to throw the javelin I found as a barbarian but yeah. The gameplay also feels a lot less fluent and less responsive in comparison to Diablo II. By that I mean that when you cast a spell or whatever your character just seems to stand there looking stupid for a second before it takes off in the appropriate animation and you just sit there looking at it doing stuff while a growing feeling of disinterest makes it harder and harder for you not to press ALT+F4.

Yeah I haven't spotted any actual throwing weapons yet. Other than that though I'm hoping the variety in items remains in tact from the previous game, since that was really the only thing that gave D2 any actual sense of variety.

I don't have this problem at all, the game seems pretty responsive for me. Other than actual casting animations for spells there's no delay on my end, and casting animations are really short. (a few frames?) I'm guessing either the server you're on is having some lag issues or your computer is having problems syncing input with video.
Day 1 purchase for me.
But yeah in comparison to D2 the skills and builds are severely reduced.
Quote from: BoomStick Clock;1904683Day 1 purchase for me.

Not really.
As far as stats go in D2, the only stat you should ever put a point into all game long is vitality. If you play things right, you can wear all the best gear with having put every point into vitality all game long. Mathematically, any deviation from this results in a weaker character because of the lower overall rewards from putting points into the other stats. I don't call "5 stats with only 1 stat worth it" a system with variety.
Skills were the same way. there were only a few viable ways to play each hero, and any deviation just resulted in you being weaker than if you had built them "the right way." Let's say you want to make a fireball sorceress. You spend all game maxing Firebolt, Fireball, Meteor, and something else I think. What does this skill build give you? Well, you have a strong firebolt but why use it when you have a more powerful fireball. You have meteor, but it's only about twice as strong as fireball and cant be cast nearly as fast. Congrats you leveled your character past 80 so you can keep spamming that one spell you've been spamming all game as good as you can possibly spam it.
People tend to praise D2's "variety" when talkiing about D3, when in all actually it was a very monotonous game from a stat/skill standpoint when played correctly. What D2
did have was good variety in items to build your character with. At least in D3 it isn't using that terrible skill tree system that everyone is so attached to for a reason I can't comprehend. Every skill will be viable and usable late game as long as they aren't underpowered from a balance standpoint and then you can modify the spells with your rune of choice. The stat system being automated just saves you the 5 clicks into vitality each level-up, a la D2. If D3 can keep a good variety of items and end game stuff available, it will be a far better game, imo.

Hyperbole, but I was indeed talking about casting animations.

I don't think you're getting the point of certain builds in D2. They are supposed to make for weaker characters, to make the game more challenging. Sure you can make every character a hammerdin or a meteorb but nothing beats running through hell difficulty with a melee sorc, throwbarb or rangerdin.
And putting aside viability for a second, a central aspect of dungeon crawlers has always been customization. If you remove the ability to make unique and interesting characters so that the players can't fuck up it's just less personal, and it takes away a lot from the game. Sure the Diablo II system was pretty bad since you had to pick very specific stats to not suck balls, but it would have been much better if they just balanced the stats instead of removing them wholesale. Removing features has never been an acceptable alternative to fixing them, but it's an all too common practice these days (removal of skills and spellcrafting in Elder Scrolls, removal of weapons in Ninja Gaiden, removal of grenades in tf2, ect)

I suppose that's true. Apprently the game is going to be
plenty tough enough even for well built characters though, so I'm not worried.

I don't know I'm pretty happy with D3 from what I've played so far. I played D2 for years, if I wanted to play D2 I'd still be playing it. I'm still hoping there will be good customization through items, which it seems there will be, and the spells have many variants of them you can choose to use. There's like 5 skills for each of the 6 categories you have and each of those 5 skills in each category has about 6 variations. Two Witch Doctors in a party both using grasp of the dead may be using two different versions of it that have different properties and particle effects. The fact that your spells' damage scales off your weapon damage rather than having a defined damage cap from putting points into it makes me think that early skills will still be useful late game. I am pretty confident Diablo 3 as a whole will be pretty great and I'm actually happy it didn't try to hard to be Diablo 2. Keep in mind, Diablo 2 was quite a departure from Diablo 1 as well, the series has managed to change up quite a lot with each iteration of the game and still manages to keep being fun.
I have nothing nice to say so I'm not saying anything at all.
Loved the old.
Played Beta for this, not impressed... made me kind of sad. :(

Diablo 2 is practically unplayable now because the online servers are full of nothing but bots. There's like a 20:1 ratio of spam bots to humans on
battle.net last time I went on. Truly disgusting.
Right now I'm a lot more interested in Path of Exile than Diablo 3, but I have been unable to get into the beta of either at present.
Path of Exile feels like an updated Titan Quest
Quote from: Buttplug;1904840Path of Exile feels like an updated Titan Quest
There actually is a new game being made by the TQ guys,
Grim Dawn. The developers from the former studio that made Titan Quest formed a new studio a while back. THQ sacked the studio after TQ but they got back on their feet it seems. From the screenshots, it looks like either an updated version of the TQ engine or they are just replicating what they did with the TQ engine, I don't know if they have the rights to the old one. The only major problem with TQ was the multiplayer system's incompatibility with Vista, which I don't actually fault the devs for. It was released in 2006, very few games around then worked well with Vista and they were sacked before they could keep supporting the game.
Either way I got a lot of fun out of Titan Quest and its expansion, they're competent developers. I'm keeping an eye on Grim Dawn but I don't expect it to come out any time soon.
Looking at that Grim Dawn videos and stuff... kinda looks like d3 was supposed to be.

You can beat D2 in that amount of time easily as well. These koreans had this game datamined and knew everything about it before it even came out. They didn't pay attention to the story, they didn't even bother exploring anything they just rushed through it.
Diablo has never been a long game. Anybody expecting more than 10-15 hours is I'm a edgy teen.

I thought they specifically designed D3 to be hard to rush.

I love how we don't get offline mode for both SC2 and Diablo 3. It's fucking dirty.
New Diablo antagonist: The Lord of Persistent Online Authentication
This is the downside of having to log in to play single player mode.
But on the other hand, you have the advantage of... um...
the ironic part is that the persistent pirates will still find a way to crack it to run offline, where as people that actually want to play the game in an offline environment (or faulty servers) get fucked.
drm is a blight.
played for about 3 hours. Took me about a half an hour to finally log in. I got shit to do tomorrow so I can't be pulling an all nighter. Got to level 12, killed leoric and discovered the source of the meteor.. Bed time I suppose. it's 6am.
Can't wait to play tomorrow though.
Shouldn't have preordered at walmart. Just got the game 10 minutes ago, and am installing presently. Called off school.
This is going to be a great day.
Playing right now, Witch Doctor is slick.
I'm actually glad they're running it online for a couple reasons.
Firstly, it means that via client-server, my computer doesn't have to do so much legwork, so I get decent performance as a result.
Secondly, since they've got the auction house going, having the item generation and stuff on a remote server helps to keep things legitimate, and I'm glad they're trying to take steps towar

As far as I know this actually shouldn't be much of an issue for D3 on blizzard's end. Not much of the game is actually generated on your computer. The campaign levels and many other parts of the game are actually generated on
battle.net. So it's not like Ubisoft's always-on drm that just ran authentication checks constantly, much of the game itself is server-side. Hackers would have to emulate
battle.net and everything bnet does that is D3 related, rather than just making a work around for
battle.net logins.

There is no reason they couldn't do this while still having an offline SP is there?
With the extra time it would take to somehow bar any offline content from getting used online (to prevent hacked items, characters, dupes, achievements), I'm not sure it would have been worth the effort for launch day.
The problem is, offline mode would be an entirely different code base, or would have to expose the server programming on your computer, which would cause massive security issues, and could easily negatively affect the online portion of the game.
I'd love to see it for people who'd like it, but I'm not sure it'll happen.
No matter how you try to justify it CelticKnot (that's a cool clock name btw), it's still just bad DRM. DRM that is obtrusive to gameplay and make it more difficult for normal customers to access their legally purchased product or bock them from using it entirely is the worst kind. And that's exactly what Diablo 3 has. There's no good reason they couldn't have had an offline single player mode.
Also saying "they can't have everything client side or they could bypass the drm" is a dumb argument because it's like saying "they can't remove their bad DRM or their bad DRM wouldn't work".
In the words of Gabe Newell, "Piracy is almost always a service problem". And this game provides shit service. WHEN a crack for the game comes out (and it will happen. There have been plenty of supposedly unpiratable games before this one) it will undoubtedly be a superior product.

It was literally impossible to play some builds online. For example a necromancer specializing in summoning could easily crash a server when the game came out.
Plus some people have bad internet connections because of the area they live in.
I'm about halfway through act 1 I think. Chose to play the monk. It looks like characters do AoE damage with almost all their skills/spells.

Well, first of all sometimes I wanted to play D2 but simply didn't have online access.
Secondly, there are many mods that basically overhaul the game, but they are difficult to get working on multiplayer LAN.

I've personally had problems with online only games. Specifically, games for windows live games. Granted that's pretty much the worst DRM ever made, second only to Origin.
I have been hearing about a lot of people having trouble connecting to the servers immediately after launch due to heavy load, but that will be a thing of the past soon. My biggest problem with "always online" games is that when my internet crashes because comcast is the only company available out where I live I'm shit out of luck and can't play it. And seriously, there i no good reason to have it other than a futile effort to stem piracy. Do people really think that during a 6 year develoment cycle Blizzard didn't have time to make an option for offline single player with no auction house? seriously?

I had my problems with GFWL after that thread but before this one. Before that I never had a problem.
Also my problem is only games that require you to be logged in to play at all, like Arkham City or Assass Creed. Games like SSF4:AE and Dark Souls you'll at least be able to play in offline mode if your net crashes or your account gets blocked.
Anyway I think Dark Souls is a unique situation because they pretty much have no choice but to use GFWL. They don't have the funding to completely rewrite the netcode from scratch so they have to use GFWL to port the code they used on the 360. Blizzard on the other hand made a concious choice to use shitty drm from the get-go. They CHOSE to screw over customers so they could get more jew gold.
EDIT: Lets stop talking about DRM and talk about the game instead. How is it? Is playing a "summoner" type viable in this game? My favorite thing to do in this genre is to get a legion of AI that I walk around with so I can beat levels without even trying. Is this something I could do with Diablo 3?

I'm not talking about it from a piracy standpoint.
Diablo and Diablo 2's multiplayer and economy were utterly destroyed because the games were so easily botted, hacked, and exploited. I was saying that I'm pretty sure that given the Auction House in Diablo 3, they wanted to keep the game as secure as possible, so they moved processing of loot, gold, and etc... to servers, rather than letting people have direct access to decompile it. The easiest way to do so is by running the game like an MMO.
Duping in Diablo is easy, duping in WoW is hard.
Yes, Bots will still exist, but with the region control on the auction house, the asian goldfarming monolith should not affect this game as easily.
I agree that as DRM, it is a terrible idea, but I feel that Blizzard has a valid concern, and a vested interest in keeping the game from becoming Mos Eisley.

My computer's hardware issues have gotten a lot worse in the past few months, I can't really play much of anything any more. Often after about an hour of playing even relatively easy to run things like League of Legends and TF2 my video cards will crash. It is not a driver issue nor a software issue, I have been looking into it for a few months. Everything just seems like the hardware is starting to fail.
Not too surprising since I've had this laptop for 3 years now, but needless to say I ended up not getting D3 with my computer running this badly. I'll still play games that I have on it, just not as much, and I don't want to invest in new games for it when I could end up having to retire the computer.

My laptop just shuts down 30 minutes into any intense game (or when a lot of programs are open). It used to be able to run Arkham Asylum :(
That being said I think mine is a battery issue.
I didn't have my desktop for a couple weeks because I thought it was broken.
Turns out I had just plugged in the power cords wrong... I got lucky. But I've had a few video problems since I overclocked my GPU (even after lowering how OC'd it was), I hope it doesn't crap out on me.
I'm near the end of act 1 and I'm kinda pissed how fast they killed Cain. And now I have to deal with Little Miss Deckard instead.
Quote from: CelticKnotClock;1906944I'm not talking about it from a piracy standpoint.
They only added the horrible always online shit to make the game harder to pirate and to protect their "digital rights" on the real money auction house (yeah, fix chinese gold farmers by making chinese gold farmers a feature. Great idea blizzard). That's the definition of DRM.
Also the AH is region locked.
But I mean whatever, you're entitled to your own conclusion, I'm having a great time with the game so it's cool with me anyway.

They also have the exact same DRM in Starcraft2, which has no duping and goldfarming problems. It's all about (real) money and control.

Since SC2 doesn't have any form of economy to worry about, there is also an offline mode that you can play as long as you log in once a month.
I don't doubt it's a fun game, but that really doesn't change the fact that it's a game with bad DRM and blizzard is screwing over their customers for money. The two things aren't really related and it's pretty unreasonable and fanboyish how you rush to defend Blizzard's obvious flaws.
Starcraft 2 is another good example of how greedy Blizzard has gotten, with how they split the game into 3 version and charge full price for each.

I don't really like the implication that I'm making points based on some blind devotion to Blizzard rather than my own thought process, so I'm going to assume you didn't mean it that way.
I also disagree with your cynical view of Starcraft 2, but I'll leave it at that, and get back to the actual topic.
Haven't got to play much, but what I've seen of the Witch Doctor in Act I is pretty awesome. I've taken down a couple bosses and I'm gearing up my blacksmith, who, to my wonder, is already making gear that I can't use by level. Running into something similar to other games though, where the vendor gear is worthless for the price, and I find the merchants mostly places to dump whites.

Yeah the story isn't all that great I have to say. Wasn't too impressed with it. It made sense, but it was far too predictable.
Beat the game last night. Really enjoyed the whole thing.
I'll agree that alot of the twists are extremely predictable, however, I really didn't see Leah being turned into Diablo coming, and the subsequent cutscene was all kinds of awesome.
What a shitty feelgood ending.
But it seems like I get a lot more rares than I got in D2 from MFing. I'm only at ~75% MF and when I killed the last boss I got 4 rares and 3 magics. I've heard MF doesn't become less effective when you have more.
Unfortunately we won't have IST runes and Jewels to socket armor. I hope Blizzard add more socketables, just having 4 types of gems is kind of boring. I mean we have a whole upgradable artisan just for 4 kinds of gems?
Level 9, just beat the first act, its pretty fun, I don't have a lot of time for it though.
If anybody has one of them beta keys, I'd sure like to try D3. I haven't seen a few buddies in days now since they got the game.

It's easy on normal. NM+ gets a lot more intense. Mobs are ridiculous and some of the bosses don't fuck around either. If you want a real challenge try hardcore.

The difficulty comes from 30 second cooldowns on health potions.

The only difference between the game modes is that the enemies have more health. In a game like Diablo 3 that isn't a matter of "more difficult" but just "need to be a higher level and get better gear".
Apart from hardcore. If you don't always play hardcore in diablo games you're a pussy.

Actually no, in D3 enemies get more spells to cast on you in higher difficulties. You can get enemies with really powerful ability combinations. For example, they could be assigned the teleport ability, and given an ability that blocks you in with unbreakable walls, and also given life leech.
not to mention Mortar, Molten, Walled, Vortex, Plagued, and ridiculous numbers of enemies on screen.
I've saved my ass a couple times with the Monk Dash and teleport punch. Cooldown management seems to be more important than gear.

I'm actually pretty disappointed with how lame their Legendaries are. In D2 we got weapons that had nice abilities and more varied effects, and often even cool themes. Taking away +skills and aura affects really hurts the wow factor of legendaries.

A lot of em really do suck. The stats on em are all random though. I've seen a few that were incredibly impressive such as a Skorn with double DPS but they're a lot harder to come by and go for crazy amounts of gold on the AH. Sometimes you get lucky, most of the time you don't.
If you remember D2 pre 1.08, it was the same situation. Prior to LoD, yellow rares were what dominated the economy. It's still early, i'm not trying to justify the nonsense but i'd imagine this will change in time. Personally i'm more ready for PVP at this point.
I think they intentionally made most legendaries shitty so that more people would use the real money auction house. They do get a cut of every sale, after all.

Because I don't think I can argue against that opinion and come to any agreement between us.
Someone on reddit explained dual wielding to me, it's actually kind of complicated.
QuoteHere's the rundown:
-dual weilding imediatley grants 15% increased attack speed to each weapon
-your character will alternate back and forth between the two weapons as you attack.
NOTE: This means your off hand needs to have close to the same damage as your main hand or you could potentially be lowering your dps from what you could get with just your main hand. The faster your lower dps weapon is, the quicker your can get back to swinging your higher damage weapon with its now increased attack speed meaning that the faster your off hand weapon is, the greater the differential can be between your main hand and off hand damage without rendering dual weilding counter productive.
If you're unsure, compare the damage on your character screen with your higher dps weapon alone with the damage from dual weilding the weapons in question. Keep in mind that a shield will add stats as well so if you see minimal gains, a shield with some dex or str, depending on your class, could match the dps while giving you more armour.
as mentioned in this post, increases attack speed should only be on your weapon as it only applies to the item it is found on and increased attack speed should be used on any item you can find it on as it will increase the attack speed of both of your weapons resulting in a large dps boost assuming you aren't also losing a significant amount of dex/str depending on your class.
+ wep damage on rings and amulets also applies to both of your weapons and can have a big impact on your dps while dual weilding. Again, + wep damage on your actual weapons or from rubys will still only apply to that weapon.
I am fairly certain that life steal only adds health based on the % of damage from the weapon it is found on as opposed to the total damage done.
Elemental effects are similarily limited to strikes made by the weapon that carries the effect.
Yeah so this game is pretty beast, I guess I can live without PVP.
Just finished the Beta, got to level 11 with my sorcerer. Will purchase full game whenever I have the cash!

IDK it felt that way for me on Diablo2 when I had crappy gear. Then again I never geared up any good non-caster characters. I played Sorc Necro and Hammerdin mostly.
Ended up buying it, level 24 atm.
Such a great game. My main focus is on my mf which is at +51% atm
Really good game, got it 2 days after it came out, glad I did. Playing as a demon hunter right now at level 29.
The developer of the game admitted that you can't get good enough loot to beat the game on the harder difficulties by design so people are forced to use the auction house. Or, as he put it, they had to make drops worse or the game economy would be ruined by a flood of perfect gear.
That's why shit like this is necessary.

Well to be honest the trading system and economy of D2 were terrible, I think making a gold auction house is a good idea. I still think the $ auction house is pretty dirty though.
Hit level 60 tonight. Getting raped in hell still though.
Spent 180K gold on some new weapons though. Didn't buy em on the AH, bought em off a guy I met in game.
AH isn't necessary if you can socialize and make deals in public games.
I hope Blizzard fixes the known issues with the Nvidia 9400M that are common in most intel-based macs.
Sometimes i can get around 20fps, but typically I'll get under 15 (which renders the game unplayable and extremely rage-inducing)

Depending on your settings and resolution that's not surprising. The mobile version of the GT 9400 is rather old and weak. I'd bet it isn't a game issue with the card, rather that the card isn't strong enough.
Looking at the mac minimum requirements, the minimum video card is an Nvidia Geforce 8600m, which is actually stronger than the 9400m. In the nvidia 8000-9000 series, you can basically compare the cards specs by their last three digits. 8600 is essentially equivalent to the 9600, just as the 8400 would be close to the 9400.
You could be very right, Sobe.
Blizzard did state, however, that they will be working something out to give us shitty mac people some love:
We've been closely monitoring community feedback since the launch of Diablo III. The top issue for our Mac players is performance, especially on low-end cards such as the NVIDIA 9400M.
Weââ,¬â,,¢re working on an optimization update to significantly improve performance for the NVIDIA 9400M. Other cards will see a modest but noticeable increase in FPS. This fix will be available in the near future.
As it stands, i am playing it in windowed form, extremely small. I put everything at the lowest and typically I will get between 10 and 20fps. It's very playable in the high 10's, but it's horrible anywhere under
I was not aware of that statement. I was just going by their minimum requirements which listed a slightly stronger card. That's good news for the mac users though.

Barter based game economies can be incredibly unpleasant to deal with. Especially if you just want to get a specific item quickly without a lot of hassle. See: tf2
The only reason why the auction house of diablo 3 is troublesome is because they let its implementation damage other parts of the game.
Quote from: Thor;1908362Barter based game economies can be incredibly unpleasant to deal with. Especially if you just want to get a specific item quickly without a lot of hassle. See: tf2.
Diablo 2 was nothing but barter and people still played it. Yeah it's not always fun but it's just another part of the experience. It can be frustrating but rewarding at the same time.
I personally have had no trouble finding armor drops that cater towards my build. In fact, I just picked up some pants that gave me upgrades where I needed them the most. If the system is effected by the AH I haven't noticed it yet. I had some trouble finding some new weapons but it's not as if I don't EVER see weapons that are class specific to my monk.
I'm actually rather enjoying the AH in this game. Things don't always sell but when they do it's pretty rewarding. I'm not looking forward to the RMAH but I don't plan on using it anyway. I just hope the spam bots don't start flooding the games like D2.
Regardless, i'm still enjoying the game. Have you played it yet thor?

I can survive in hell no problem now, even solo hell diablo without needing to use the heal wells or pots...but inferno, holy shit.
Quote from: NintendoClock;1908366If the system is effected by the AH I haven't noticed it yet.
The game is ONLY always online to facilitate the auction house. Thus, every error, problem, overful server, connection issue, and inability to log in due to server maintainance is a direct result of the auction house. It's also the reason that there is no LAN mode, why drops were intentionally lowered to be much worse than the previous two games, why Inferno was made unreasonably hard so you're forced to buy top tier gear, why they force you go go online for a single player game, why you're forced to have latency lag in a single player game, ect. Practically the whole game was designed around the auction house, all so that when the real money one launches they can make a killing by taking a percentage of every sale.
QuoteRegardless, i'm still enjoying the game. Have you played it yet thor?

I'm not willing to give blizzard money for this product.
You really should experience the game for yourself rather than listen to what /v/ has to say.

Yeah it's stupid easy until late NM/Hell difficulty.
Last night a hell mob kept me and some guy busy for over 10 minutes. We kept having to dodge meteor, arcane, and desecration attacks while slowly draining the mobs health (the monster also had teleport so that didn't help anything). I wish I would've recorded it.

Huh? It's about as long as Diablo2 I'd say. If you're playing the acts over and over they shouldn't be too long.
Short, sure. But it's sweet and it's got lots of replay value for loot joy
Looting is fun, if you're a collector... But if not then your outta luck
Diablo is a series built around the "new game +" feature. If you're buying it to play through it and then stop, you bought it for the wrong reasons and yeah it will be short. Playing through all four difficulties with each of your characters is the entire point.
I think there's more to it than playing on every difficulty. Online play is pretty cool. Even though most of the groups I've got thrown into abandon you half way through an act. Queue times are extremely quick which surprised me, but I didn't pay a dime for it, so I'm not complaining at all.... thank god for the annual wow pass.
The game doesn't really begin until you hit the hardest difficulty, I only just managed to kill inferno skeleton king (with 5 valor stack to boot).

So this game turned out extremely disappointing. If it isn't obvious, every small change ActiBlizzard makes with patches is slowly weening the players to be radically dependent on the RMAH or spend hours farming enough gold to not have to spend the money.

I feel like I'm the only one in the clock crew who can enjoy a game not made by Valve any more. If it's a thread regarding Activision, Ubisoft, Sony, Microsoft, THQ, or especially EA, Bioware, or Blizzard, everyone will bash the topic to no end. If it's a thread about Valve or a niche topic like Double Fine, Dark Souls, or a Humble Bundle, nothing but praise.
That stuff Thor posted above me, yeah, Blizzard fucked that up pretty big. As far as the game goes everyone is all caught up about the auction house and other minutia. I play the game because the game is fun. If a game isn't fun I don't play it. That's as far as my decision making in playing games goes. I don't know I guess that makes me weird. It's the reason I kept playing Starcraft 2 after everyone else here jumped ship because they didn't like the battlenet interface. I am not playing it for the pre-game interface, I'm playing it for the game.
As far as everyone being all up in arms regarding the very idea of the auction house, I honestly much prefer the idea of a controlled and trustworthy place to sell items to the alternative, which was D2. Every game got absolutely invaded by item site ad bots spamming advertisements and tons of scam sites. Their current implementation of the AH is pretty flawed as the past few posts pointed out, but it's not dampening my play experience at all and they have plenty of time to improve it.
Monk and Witch Doctor are still the coolest classes btw.

Well first off you're definitely not the only one. I'm still playing D3 and enjoying it. I'm not playing it as often as i'd like but i'm still trying to get through inferno. I definitely have some problems with the game but they're only minor and don't detract from the overall experience. Like D2 before it, I think the expansions and future updates will only improve upon what is already an excellent game. If there's anything blizzard does right, it's that they listen to their community better than almost any developer out there.
No game is perfect, some of us understand this and some of us have ridiculous expectations that will simply never be met. A lot of people these days are blinded by nostalgia goggles especially with games like D3, Skyrim, and other franchise games. Some of the bashing is justified but a lot of it isnt and is just nit picky and arbitrary. I think it just boils down to things not being as special as you grow older. Maybe there's more to it, idk.
Personally, I don't think Valve is the savior of gaming that people make them out to be. Portal, l4d, hat fortress 2, and Half Life are all great but they aren't the best games of all time ever ever ever. First person shootan is great on occasion but eh. It'd be nice to see them do something new outside the genre they seem to be most comfortable in. Also gaben is a brony.
Well, one of the reasons I'm complaining about Blizzard and not Valve right now is because Blizzard is committing wire fraud and Valve isn't. I really can't think of anything worse that a videogame company can do than stealing their costumers money. Whether or not they stole it on accident doesn't matter, because they've refused to refund the money.
As far as I know, From Software and Double Fine have also not stolen anybodies money
Quote from: NintendoClock;1911470Well first off you're definitely not the only one. I'm still playing D3 and enjoying it. I'm not playing it as often as i'd like but i'm still trying to get through inferno. Glad to see someone else still likes it. Though I do have to point out that Valve is finally straying from shooters with Dota2, though as much as I've
tried to get into it, it just can't keep my attention.

Yeah, I agreed that Blizzard is fucking that up big time. As far as the game itself goes I still enjoy it quite a lot.

so why is the level cap 60 instead of 99
Quote from: DWARFINATORclock;1911631so why is the level cap 60 instead of 99
Expansions.
Quote from: NintendoClock;1911653Expansions.
in d2 the cap was 99 even before the expansion
Because blizz thought the item hunt was enough to provide a good end-game experience, they only recently admitted this isn't the case.
Quote from: DWARFINATORclock;1911656in d2 the cap was 99 even before the expansion
And then along came WoW with its lvl 60 cap in vanilla...
If anyone else here still cares about the game at all, the 1.0.4 update coming out addresses a lot of the problems with Inferno as a whole.
- Elites max HP is going down, and they are nerfing the combinations of -affixes they can have.
- Legendary items are getting better, and low-mid tier legendaries will drop more frequently. Idk about the really high tier ones.
- Team play will be better now, Magic Find is no longer shared and the difficulty doesn't spike as dramatically.
- Sets are getting new bonuses to make them more viable.
- Various other balance changes such as buffing 2 handed weapons so they are viable next to dual wielding and 1h+shield.
- Each character class is getting buffed and rebalanced. The builds that were already good on them will remain strong, while they will have more options available for skill and item builds.

There's more changes I'm missing but yeah Inferno will be a better end game with these changes and there's more in store for future patches. I'm quite happy with the direction things are going, seems like it's going to get a lot more fun.
Did they add in skill points and attribute points yet?
Quote from: Buttplug;1918594Did they add in skill points and attribute points yet?
No, they aren't planning to either.
I am perfectly fine with that.
still no endgame though.
Quote from: BoomStick Clock;1918596still no endgame though.
I really don't understand why people are crying about this so much. Diablo 2 barely had end game (and all I can think of is Uber Diablo and Lilith. pvp maybe?)
This isn't WoW.

A lot of people ended up playing D2 for PvP

Quote from: Buttplug;1918648Really? because Blizzard makes me wonder...
Well it is basically a lot of the same team that developed WoW. Blizzard North is gone as we both know. The style and the direction were bound to shift a bit.
Diablo 3 may not be perfect, but I put well over 100 hours into it happily. Any game that gets me to do that is pretty good in my book. I hate the story and idk if I'll come back anytime soon but I still think it was a quality game. D2 will always be the best in the series (especially in terms of story) but anybody who played it when it originally came out can tell you that the gripes that are being made with D3 (gameplay wise) were made with D2 when it first pre-LoD. Some people even prefer the original still.
Also pvp is coming.

David Brevik was the creator of diablo 1 and 2. He had nothing but bad things to say about Diablo 3.
Jay Wilson's response is, and I quote "fuck that loser".
Jay Wilson is the project director for Diablo 3

Blizzard confirmed for evil corporation that forcibly silences all opposition and censors the media.
I honestly couldn't believe what I was seeing when I read that. I've never been so disgusted with any group of developers in my life.
stay classy, blizz.

Wilson got pissed because he knew Brevik hit the nail on the head.
They can't let anyone fuck with D3 because it is their new cashcow that is supposed to take WoW's place.
Also, the mods on the /r/diablo subreddit are censoring and removing posts about these incidents.

It's not whining, it's a legitimate desire.
Quote from: Buttplug;1918768It's not whining, it's a legitimate desire.
That was virtually non existent in D2.
As I said earlier, aside from ubers and lilith (which were added years later) D2 had no end game other than the loot hunt which is precisely what D3 is right now.
and again, pvp is coming. ("hurr well we shouldn't have to wait" yeah well D2 took time before it became the game it is today. Does that make d2 bad?)
This is DIABLO, not some MMO.

The facebook posts were pretty unprofessional, yeah. They shouldn't have posted like that even if they were pissed that the ex-diablo lead was basically doing an anti-d3 interview. That said, those were the most loaded questions I've ever seen in an interview, holy shit, that guy is a joke of an interviewer. He might as well have said "Diablo 3 sucks, why do you think that is? How would you have made it not suck? It totally sucks though, right?"
Regarding the article, I've been browsing other message boards including the diablo subreddit. There's absolutely zero evidence that Blizzard had anything at all to do with the article being removed. The Diablo devs weren't happy with the interview, but it looks like either the article was just removed or it was getting way too much traffic from the drama. By all means if Blizzard forced the takedown than blame them for it, but right now all the sheep are just going "IT DISAPPEARED! BLIZZARD DID IT!"
The article doesn't change my opinion of
the game though.

I am actually pretty excited about this change, I was coming here to post it. Now there is further room to grow your character past 60, and since you also gain additional passive magic find and gold find along with the standard stat increases from leveling, there's even less reliance on the auction house with these changes. You'll be stronger so you wont need the absolute best gear money can buy any more, and finding good stuff will be easier. Pretty awesome. "The first Paragon level should take about as long as it took most players to get from level 59 to 60, and the experience requirement will rise from there. The time to reach the upper Paragon levels approximates the long-term time investment required to get a level 99 character in Diablo II." If getting the paragon levels
after you get level 60 takes as long to level to 99 in D2, I'd say Diablo 3 has more than enough of an endgame now. Especially with all the other inferno-targeted changes I detailed in my other post last page.

Why else would it go down and no other articles? Everybody knows that gaming "journalists" are all in the pocket of publishers. There have been whistle blowers from IGN and other site that were fired or where threatened to be fired if they reviewed a popular game poorly. And I don't think it's a coincidence that games that buy advertising space always seem to get at least 9/10
I don't even know why I try to discuss games I like around here any more. If Valve or Nintendo didn't make it, not allowed to talk about it. It's not in the rules, but it might as well be.
This thread topic is Diablo 3, not Blizzard. Make a Blizzard bashing thread if you want to discuss that. I honestly don't care about the Blizzard drama in the least. Being that the topic is Diablo 3, I also don't care to hear everyone's laundry list of reasons they don't like it. How about let people who actually enjoy a game talk about it for a change. I'm getting a bit tired of just trying to do something like post changes in an upcoming patch and getting met with a bunch of "game still sucks" "dev still sucks" posts. We get it, you don't like the game.
When I was smod I tried to stop that crap from happening to threads, unfortunately it seems no one else is annoyed by it.

You just kinda gotta accept the opinions of others around here. Thor has been cynical about Diablo since it was announced. It shouldn't be surprising what his opinion on the subject is going to be. Subsequently, I have been against dark souls PC since its announcement.
It's not video games discussion on the internet without some form of trolling involved. It's childish but it can be entertaining at times. If it doesn't effect your opinion of the game then so be it. Expect the trolling and talk about the game with others who enjoy it regardless.
I'm still extremely excited about 1.04. I wasn't really all that interested in coming back to D3 anytime soon but all these changes seem like they're going to make the game even more enjoyable than it already was. Now if they'd just implement an open world questing feature it'd be perfect.
lol blizard suk dik bad gaem huehuehue
