elton john why you steal my song
(Other than the subject being the same, I don't hear it)
Are we talking the original or the Shatner'd? 'Cause Bowies's Space Oddity is way better than Elton's Rocket Man, but Shatner's Rocket Man is totally better than Shatner's Space Oddity.
easiest choice ever
apparently im the only rocket man

Well if there was more than one it wouldn't be such a lonely song
I got yo back homie
how about that one that goes earth below us drifting falling floating weightless...
THIS IS MAJOR TOM TO GROUND CONTROL
I'M STEPPING THROUGH THE DOOR
AND I'M FLOATING IN A MOST PECULIAR WAY
AND THE STARS LOOK VERY DIFFERENT
TODAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY
GROUND CONTROL TO MAJOR TOM: YOUR CIRCUIT'S DEAD! IS SOMETHING WRONG?
CAN YOU HEAR ME, MAJOR TOM?
HERE AM I FLOATING IN MY TIN CAN
FARRRRRR ABOVE THE MOON
PLANET EARTH IS BLUE AND THERE'S NOTHING I CAN DO
CAN YOU HEAR ME, MAJOR TOM?
oh.
THOUGH I'M PAST ONE-HUNDRED-THOUSAND MILES
I'M FEELING VERY STIIIIILL
AND I THINK MY SPACESHIP KNOWS WHICH WAY TO GO
TELL MY WIFE I LOVE HER VERY MUCH
Hunky Dory, bitch. Quicksand.

can I do one of my giant wordy posts instead because I really think there's room for intertextual critical examination
because, like, where bowie sings about a man leaving planet earth for the mysteries of space and finding some strange thing that changes him radically and instantaneously (in many ways mirroring the film the song is named for), john sings about a man whose journey in to the void is simply a job, who does not seem to encounter anything out of the ordinary, but the experience nevertheless alienates and changes him, though in much subtler ways, perhaps more terrifying for their banality. they both speak of human fears of the great void above us- 1) that there's something out there that we don't understand, ready to tear apart our misconceptions and change our lives and world forever or 2) that there's not.
and that's just the start of it.

Please continue, you have me wrapped around your pinky.
Space oddity was good but the origanl rocket man before shattner face fucked it was a bit better IMO
on another note.
