ok i enlarged the description for the visually impaired like nintendoclock

The groundbreaking television phenomenon, Golden GlobeÃ,® and Peabody Award-winner TWIN PEAKS will return as a new limited series on SHOWTIME in 2016. Series creators and executive producers David Lynch and Mark Frost will write and produce all nine episodes of the limited series, and Lynch will direct every episode. Set in the present day, TWIN PEAKS will continue the lore of the original series, providing long-awaited answers and a satisfying conclusion for the seriesââ,¬â,,¢ passionate fan base.

For viewers hoping to reminisce or for those discovering the series for the first time, SHOWTIME will re-air the first two seasons of TWIN PEAKS, in advance of the new episodes going on air in 2016.

Widely considered one of the most groundbreaking and influential broadcast series of all time, TWIN PEAKS followed the inhabitants of a quaint northwestern town who were stunned after their homecoming queen Laura Palmer is shockingly murdered. The town's sheriff welcomed the help of FBI agent Dale Cooper, who came to town to investigate the case. As Cooper conducted his search for Laura's killer, the town's secrets were gradually exposed. The mystery that ensued set off an eerie chain of events that plunged the inhabitants of Twin Peaks into a darker examination of their very existence. Twenty-five years later, the story continues...

I love what Lynch did with this. If you are a true fan of the series, you understand the significance of 25 years later. This will be airing exactly 25 years later.

but have you heard the plans about the prequel 'catch up' book frost is writing in preparation for the new series? don't know how much faith I have in that idea...

"Twin Peaks co-creator and executive producer Mark Frost plans on publishing a book in late 2015 that will fill in fans of the show on everything that's happened to its characters since the series went off the air in 1991." via here (http://www.rollingstone.com/tv/news/twin-peaks-book-to-chronicle-characters-lives-over-past-25-years-20141017)

I'll probably get burned at the stake for this, but I can't really get into Twin Peaks. I stopped watching about six episodes into season two. Before that I stopped somewhere in season one. Everyone's always banging on about it and I really tried. I really like the weird stuff, there's a bunch of great characters and moments scattered throughout, but for every log lady or best sandwich ever scene there's like a half hour of drawn-out melodramatic soap opera shit. I read somewhere that in season two things really go off the deep end, does that mean the scales finally start tipping towards the crazy or what?

Season 2 goes off the deep end... into the deep bottomless pits of soap opera-ism awfulness. Season 2 is a definite disappointment in comparison to season 1, but it still manages to redeem itself with the finale which is (thankfully) directed by Lynch. Season 3 is said to be completely directed by Lynch, so it may be worth the trawl through season 2 as preparation for it. I also think it's a pretty cool idea to see a TV show returning after such a long down time; it'll probably be interesting even in terms of that 'watching a trainwreck' type of interesting.
It's defo not a show that's for everyone, I personally love it, and yeah, fans are pretttttty apologetic about the second season, but I think that had alot to do with ratings struggles + lynch's lack of involvement. I have hope for what's coming.

You fucking dolts. Is this typical of the Twin Peaks fan? "Me? O yes, I love Twin Peaks, what a non-stop thrill ride. Best show ever." When pressed: "Well yeah, season two actually kind of sucks." Season one is eight episodes, season two is twenty-two goddamn episodes. That means mathematically, the show is shit. Hell factually, it's also shit. I'm six episodes into season two, that means I'd have to "push myself" to watch another fifteen episodes, or roughly six hundred and seventy-five minutes of "soap opera-ism awfulness", for a (supposed) forty-five minute payoff. Forty-five minutes and however long that movie is. I haven't read anything about the movie, so I'll just assume that it's also shit. Worst of all, I'll probably finish watching all of it before season three comes out, and when it does I'll watch that as well. I fucking hate Twin Peaks.

It's more that the second series pales in comparison to the first for the most part; there are still loads of great moments and great episodes. It's more that there is one particular awful sideplot that develops in it where all the soap awfulness resides. You'll know it immediately when it happens. I wonder if there's ever been a fan edit where they just cut out James Hurley entirely.
