Clock Crew

This year for Clock Day we have decided to attempt our largest and most ambitious collaboration to date, the Choose Your Own Adventure collab. Pop first proposed the idea in December 2013 and we have discussed it off and on since. Here's an excerpt from Pop's original proposal which gives you the gist of how the collab will work.

Clearly, with a collab this large we will need people to animate multiple scenes. Once you are finished a scene you may request an additional scene. We will be assigning scenes to you in the order we need them. This will hopefully keep the collab manageable and moving forward, as multiple people can work concurrently. Due to the large amount of parts required, we have decided to restrict scenes to a time limit of around 15-30 seconds each. We may make some exceptions to the time limit if you're assigned to a final scene way down the line. If your scene is a red circle then make your movie an ending (this doesn't necessarily mean that characters have to die, it just has to be a conclusion).

We're still hammering out minor nuances, but if you're interested in participating you may sign up in this thread (obv) or feel free to ask any questions and we can start handing out scenes soon.

RULES:

1) Keep your movie in a movie clip.
2) At the first frame of your movie add the following to the frame: _root.stop();
3) If your movie has multiple choices of where to go at the end: add buttons for each choice. We will add in the Actionscript for the buttons! If your movie is a dead end then you don't need to add anything else.
4) Make sure you rename all your symbols. Add your name (ex. STRAWBERRY_chair) to your symbol to keep things clean. Also put all the symbols you make in a folder with your name on it.
5) Try and keep your movie between 15 seconds to 30.
6) SET ALL SOUNDS TO STREAM. SERIOUSLY. LEAVING IT AS EVENT WILL HAVE REALLY BAD CONSEQUENCES FOR YOU
7) 3 days to finish your part (or at least a damn good work in progress). Use your time wisely.
8) If you are going to drop out, do it before your part is up.
9) You may only be signed up for one part at a time, once you finish a part you may request another one.

If you use AS for whatever reason, make sure it's AS2. Also try to stay away from using an AS camera.
If you're using a CS version, when creating the file, make sure it's AS2 compatible link.
If you're using a specialized font, break it down (ctrl+b).

Like Jeff said, we are still etching out how we're executing this. For example, we may create additional sub-threads for each branch so it is easier to follow each story line that leads to the part you're making.

We are also trying to find a balance where the story stays on a coherent course yet artists still have freedom.

We considered assembling a group of writers.
Then we discussed just treating it as a pass the flash.
Then we thought something in the middle like retroscripting with the two end choices being preset by the organizers.
What are everyone's thoughts?

Me and Ren were talking about it yesterday and we leaned towards PTF style. Writers are lame and so is telling people how they have to animate imvho

If this were a three or four person collab, having writers and retroscripting makes sense, but for this I think PTF is gonna be more fun.

PTF sounds grand, yes, but make sure you touch base in a centralized thread here and there (or at least before starting your part) so you don't make your branch similar to another one

communication is going to have to be huge for this one. since several people will be making their parts simultaneously, you should probably get in blast and/or keep in touch with those people so you don't end up doing the same thing as them. if you don't do this, and end up turning in something that is too similar to another part, you should be rejected and asked to redo or fix your part

also i think one person should make the choice buttons so they're uniform

E: Wait nevermind, I got confused.

In the chart, Part 2 leads into Branches 2 and 3 while Part 3 leads into Branches 1 and 4. However in the list you wrote out, Part 2 leads into Branches 1 and 2 while Part 3 leads into Branches 3 and 4.

The Easter eggs are being played close to the chest so even members can have something to discover. PM Ren, Patty or me if you're interested.

This entire project will make not only Clock history but Flash history as it's never been attempted on this scale before. There is no room for time extensions, no excuse for taking three days and turning in garbage. Please... for the greater glory of Strawberry... only sign up if you're committed.

The time limits mostly need to be enforced for the decision making parts. If you get an end piece we can cut them some slack. I'm okay with people taking longer to make their graphics and everything fine tuned. The most important thing is we need to get the story and some sort of animatic going within 3 days to keep the momentum going.

Easter egg stuff is going to come last. We need to fill out the main story lines first.

Actually that's a good question, how to we decide who's doing the ending part and who's doing the part that goes on? When MFC completes his part and posts it, is it then up to either Yomuchan or GodClock to declare "I'm doing the branch where RenegadeClock chooses to stick his cock into the monkey cage, and it's gonna be an ending part" or will we be assigned which path we have to make a follow-up part for based on where we are in the listing?

Actually if I'm reading that list correctly shouldn't Ren's part have a third option that leads to an instant end?

You're assigned either an Ending Part or a Continuation Part. The first poster to respond once the previous part is completed gets their pick of which choice to go with. So it's like calling shotgun.

alright, i'll start working on the NO SPUD branch. we really should try to make these decisions have an impact on the story, as they are the main focus of this collab.

Hey I would like to do a part if I could.  I do not care what part just wanna be part of this awesome collab.  I also had an idea to add to this collab.  Not sure if Patriot mentioned it to any of you yet so I will just assume he did not and explain as best I can.

Some of you might remember I had a bit of a 3D clock game started.  I stopped working on that for various reasons but I would like to resume working on it and get it done so I can incorporate it into this collab.  Only if you guys want obviously.  So how I thought I could work in as a boss fight after one ending (maybe several endings IDK up to you guys).  If the person watching chooses to go down the path with this boss fight at the end they would see a link to our site and if they so chose they could come here to play the ending of the movie. This would cause traffic through this site and could lead to more members 8D.  I do not know of any way to make it so that the game would automatically start in the actual movie .swf itself so this is really the only way I know how to make it work.  It just happens to kind of work in our favor. I could use some help with modeling and boss fight concepts, music etc. if you guys do like this idea.  

I would still be interested in doing a flash part regardless of if this idea gets incorporated or not. So just let me know what part I can get. Thanks can't wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There would be nothing forcing the people to click the link and nothing automatically sending them to our site we could even just leave it in the description.  As far as coding goes I am fine with doing that and already have a large portion done.  The only problem I see is that I would need to know at least the outcome of one path now so that way I could make the boss and player etc.  I have code for a playable SB and BB10 clock.  I also have Steak clock, which I need to finish, as a current boss but we can add, to change or not use what I have thus far. It's whatever just throwing it out there.

My only concern is that we are already pushing our luck with expecting Flash to export this without issue. I'd hate for you to go thru the effort and then we have to scrap it becuz Flash won't publish it without going boom.

Cheesesteak... I totally misread the part about presenting an internal link to the game... I processed it as 'let's find a way to embed it..' because I'm a dumbass.

The bossfight thing sounds cool. Being that it's a boss fight I would imagine it would come near the one of the later ends of the movie. Since this is a PTF and we have no idea what happens at that the end yet you're going to have a somewhat limited amount of time to develop the game. So if we're going to do this we should start lining people up to lead directly into that scenario, ahead of the others.

So I'll put you up on Part 46.

no matter what, i still support cheesesteak's idea of adding an epic boss-fight at one of the many endings of some choices....

also: cheesesteak should do and one, two(or more) parts/choices for this collab, but in 3-D! i think it will be a nice touch.

Started working on my animatic today. This is kind of the gist of what I'm thinking. I figured maybe if you chose option "Eh.. SURE! Why not?" and picked him up, it could end on Part 15 with a death scene, and if you said "Fuck No!" the story would continue on Part 16.

Suggestions..? Make it longer..? Have them pick him up, and have two different decisions down the line after?

Keep it with the viewer having the option of offering the ride. If you feel it's too short... you can always fatten it up by having them drive a few seconds before encountering Jason or show Slurpee floating away or hellifiknowitsfinethewayitis.

Your parts an ending so have the story conclude without any choices. Try and keep it the same length as the other parts

I don't think we ever decided that these premature endings had to be death related. So it doesn't HAVE to end in them being rape-murdered by Colonel Sanders... just needs to conclude that string. Strawberry and Turd retiring off the money they make or some shit is perfectly fine if you want to make it a happy ending.

If it's an end part you can take some more time. The time constraint is more crucial for the choice parts.

I'm taking my time on this one since no ones under me yet. But I'm worried if me you and mello just kee hammering out parts whoever a watching will be tired of us. I've taked to thor on steam about joining but he wasn't super into it.   I'm hoping we can get a few more people to join who used to regularly make flash to make it more special (dwarf? Orange?!?!?). Agreed... but if we spread ourselves out so we're working on different branches... they won't see our additional parts unless they respawn or whatever and take a different path. The forum itself is broken which is really dissuading from visiting let alone participating. Piney has committed to getting us functional again... it's just a matter of freeing up his time.

Ren and I spoke and we have both admittedly let our 'IRL' jobs consume our clock time... and I assume the same is true for the other staff. Surely, that doesn't help the matter. The whole situation is just a perfect storm right now.

Yes, we hit a wall. The forum software conflict makes posting here a pain in the ass. Most the staff and members have IRL commitments that don't help the case.

But what you need to understand is, we go through this EVERY YEAR, Yom. We always hit these speed bumps in the Spring and always get our shit together in time.

this collab will be legendary, and we dont have the time to complete it properly until CD.
if we wrap this up in CD, it will be rushed and not as epic as we want it to be.

like pop-tart said, we should do a more simple collab for clockday, and we should complete/submit the ''choose your own adventure'' collab a bit later.

BTW about this project: i was talking with some friends on discord, and we agreed that, since this thing is dead since 2015, that we could wrap it up by adding just 4 or 6 more parts, and we would combine them with the already completed 2015 parts that the previous collaborators had already submitted in this thread. (AKA me, rubberbilbo-clock, yomuchan, and you, to name a few people that have actually finished their collab parts for this thing.).

ofcourse, if we could just revive+complete this project, i would be even happier to do this...

...but seeing our current inactivity makes me think that plan B is perhaps the best plan. (AKA=to wrap everything up in less parts+to combine the new 6 parts that we will create, with the already existing 2015 parts).

If someone who can rouse clocks into action tries to start a collab now, they're going to have to work extra hard to make it sound appealing after all the false starts there have been this year.

Everyone's going to make a solo flash, there doesn't have to be a collab. bb10 bargain collabs may become appealing in the future so don't stop offering those

My part for this was so ambitious that I still work on it from time to time (like once per year since) and will be making it its own submission as soon as I officially stop believing in this

I would love if we could somehow finish this, if for no other reason than to have one last hurrah before the crew finishes its slow death. I've already done two parts, but I could probably find time to do a third.

Purely for the sake of maybe, I guess I should start collecting FLAs just so people who have done parts won't end up being impossible to contact if I wait too long
