Title: I want to make a functional website for this place.
Post by: MelloYelloClock on May 10, 2016, 10:48:06 PM
It's a stretch, but I think it would liven things up around here...maybe. Hypothetically, whats some stuff you'd like to see on a site if we were to have one? Would you stick to classic CC style or go a different path?

content archive w/ navigable tags
alumni section detailing what older clocks went on to

idrk what we are to the rest of the internet at this point but those would be a dignified place to start imo

Pretty much prettier forums and that archive Slurpski just mentioned. I have a small database (mostly of my movies) from my old sig, the PhantomCAtriumâ,,¢ but I made very, very, very small amounts of progress into writing up other clocks' movies in the format (they just weren't viewable in the Flash. I'd post it, but there's no Flash tag, here.)

im liking this trend of people re-regging and not telling us who they were before

it's like "oh you were in the war? word" and it doesn't matter that I never find out that you're the one who pooped in my canteen in 2005, because we were both there, man

Also is it weird that that absolutely broke my heart? He totally just goes "HEY SPEED, LOOK, IT'S ME, REX!" at the end of the manga series and maybe in the cartoons? I barely remember those. I still believe that movie would've been a goddamn smash hit if it didn't come out a week after Iron Man.

edit: maybe like a regular hit tho

So quick request, obviously I have an "About Us" page but I know some of you have knowledge of Clock Crew history far beyond my reach, so would anyone like to write about Clock Crews history for the web page?
Key points would be - How the CC began, Core members, interesting facts through the years, members who have had a big impact, current status of the CC etc etc. I know some stuff but not all. I want this to be a good article/piece to read. you can post it here, or PM me, if you're interested.

I'd say either slurpee or corpse grinder (if he could be persuaded) would be best for that. They're the two people that automatically came to mind when thinking about someone who explains CC history and I can't really explain why othe than that

If we could have a big archive of all the classic/standard/important/best clock movies thatd be wonderful seeing as how fucking difficult newgrounds is to navigate now and I can't remember a good lot of them off the top of my head

$10 in Steam credit or cash if you really, really overplay my part in the history, though. I mean, don't lie, just like talk about me a lot near the end there. "Fucker did like five fucking flashes one time. They were aight."

corpsy was head of clockopedia at one point, and i worked with tree and skateboard on an earlier version, so i could see why we would jump to mind. i also have word vomited about cc history a lot.

tbh if I were to write an About Us, it probably wouldn't be comprehensive. I'd abstract out most of the literal events, just for purely editorial purposes. I wouldn't want to greet a stranger clicking About Us in good faith with anything except, like, here's what's cool about us, here's a brief history of how this weird shit got started, and here's what's cool about us again.

the basic beats of the first two years up to Orange and them leaving inform the cc's present state, but that's partly because the 13 years following is a long complicated blur of different people carrying the torch and arguing about how the torch should be carried, and at this point it all seems pretty trifling.
I honestly feel like... somewhere around the creation of Insert Title Here, all the bullshit had settled down enough that we could relax into an understanding of what we are and really always have been, which is a very silly, anarchic, loosely-defined but heavily-themed group of amateur artists entertaining and supporting each other.

in fact if that sounds acceptable i can make time to write up something to that effect.

This would be okay, It doesn't have to be perfect. It just has to be semi-accurate lol. I can proof read and fix anything, its just the putting together of it. No rush, lets see what you got.

I also like your idea of an Alumni page, already I've made pages for the most famous renown members, (SBC, pine, orange, rasp, apple) but I have room for an infinite amount but to keep it clean & simple i might keep it to a minimum of 3 to a max of 5 rows with 5 columns. Any one want to suggest alumni besides the core 5 i have listed? If you can picture it, the page is displayed as sort of a wall of fame set-up. Shows portraits of a Clocks avatar and when you click on it it brings you to a separate page with a short description and 3 notable flashes they've made.
Heres a preview of what I invision-

Currently working on the archive right now. In terms of accessibility and ease of use, what layout would be the most preferred? Clock Movies listed by year? or Individually by author?

Ideally I'd want to see some highlighted classics (maybe in a rotation) and then the rest of the movies organized by author

If you're making it a database anyway, have a classy default but why not let us choose between author or year?

I assume itd be impossible to have the option to choose between the two.

Well then I'd have to say author. (Maybe put the year next to the title in parentheses if possible?)

I'd add KoalaClock to that list. His contributions and the creation of .co.uk kept us alive before the boom of 05. Renegade and BlueClock would probably be worth adding in there too.

There's a lot of notables but i'm not necessarily sure they should be added. Pepsi, DrunkMagiKoopa, and Battery all come to mind..

guys, i've found this zip of the old ''Clockopedia'' archive of the clock crew.

here:

it might help us to learn more stuff about the CC's epoch.

The only advice I'm going to give is to make sure you don't bite off more than you can chew. It can get pretty easy to burn out on something like this, and over time the payoff doesn't match the amount of work you put into it. Keep it simple and sweet.

There could be a pretty decent pay off here. A nice new website is long overdue. Might be just the jolt this place needs, if only for a bit.

That alone could be worth it I suppose.

It could be, but there is a lot of work for just one or two people. The strength of this group is not so much in the site itself, but the ability to carry on in a collaborative effort. I've always felt bad for whoever had to program the site because usually the goals are loftier than the achievabilaty one person can reach.

The only PHP files we have, or can have, are from the previous incarnation of clockcrew.cc. Recall that .cc, at its death, was broken as shit, and not just because the server was dying.
If PineappleClock retired and decided he wanted to spend the rest of his days restoring the Clock Crew to its former glory FOR FREE, I've got all the old files from .cc, and we're running on a copy of the old database. He'd just have to completely rewrite a bunch of shit so that it'd work with Simple Machines forums instead of vBulletin, the forums software we dropped because you have to pay to upgrade it to a version that radical Islamist script kiddies can't get into.
