WHO HERE DELIVERING
Sam Porter Bridges' Pro Floating Carrier
making ziplines just to carve back down the mountain
I beat this not too long ago.
I'd say for the first 25-30 hours I genuinely was having fun with it. The delivering and traversal aspects of the game were fun and addicting in their own weird way. Things became repetitive after a while and the story, while at least somewhat interesting, was a bit underwhelming. The acting, at times, was top notch but there are a few instances where some cringe came into play. Graphics are superb, art and presentation is fantastic as well. Music fits the game well. That last 10-15 hours though really killed it for me. Not in terms of the story, but more so in terms of just trying to beat it. It became such a slog.
Overall It's a solid 7.5/10
it sounds like a solid "wait till it's 20-40 dollars" purchase. I'll bump this thread in a year then.
also if you're wondering why his writing seems cringy, I think I know why. every game after metal gear solid 3 didnt have his co-writer. all the MGS3 spinoffs/sequels, MGS4, MGS5, and death stranding are full kojima. the other guy apparently wrote ghost babel by himself, and was co-writer on literally every other game kojima had done up through snake eater.

Yeah that "fuku" guy, can't think of his full name but yeah, I know who you're talking about. There's definitely been something off about his games since 3. 4 was all over the place, peace walker and 5 were forgettable and this, truthfully, I think is his strongest game post 3 in terms of story anyway but yeah.
And it isn't necessarily the writing that's cringe. I mean, for sure that's probably the root issue. Some of the acting though.... Specifically the "married couple", jesus. You have to watch it to believe it. It was painful.
i wonder how much of it is lost in translation or if there's a english language voice director that's choosing poor takes
delivery on jokes has really odd timing. awful puns in video games are as standard as pause menus, but without either a shit-eating grin "yeah i just said that" line read or a bashful "sorry i just said that" mea culpa, it all hits an uncanny valley.
also Lea Seydoux never gets to be excited, the face rig smiles but her character being fully consumed by trauma makes it hard to connect even after you learn her backstory. also the Mama plotline twist made my stomach turn ugh. The writing for women has always been awful, or maybe Guillermo del Toro/James Corti's Deadman is supposed to be the love interest, but i'm only half way through so partial impressions.
mama definitely hottest girl though.
Fight me.
