I can't do it that way. It only shows half my collection if I do.

Also, I got Dreamer and Chicken Little yesterday. Next week is a good week with King Kong, Stay, and Memoirs of a Geisha coming out.

Holy shit, Suncoast Video was having a close out sale today, with almost everything 50-60% off. Most of their DVDs had already been cleared out, but I managed to pick up Seabiscuit, Jack, Wolf, The Shining, and Return of the Living Dead 3. PLUS, this bitch for only $13:

Picked up King Kong, Memoirs of a Geisha, and Stay today. Only got the regular edition of King Kong, though. But for $14 I can't complain too much. If I really want all of the extras I can just buy that production diary box set.

Downloading too many movies is making me feel uncomfortable so I'm going to try and regularly check out bargain bins for movies I want to buy. Yeah, I could buy the latest hottest shit for several more $$$ but there's too damn many movies that I want to own so I'm catching up now.

+Saw
+Being John Malkovich
+8MM
+Animatrix
+The Cell
+South Park Bigger Longer Uncut (bah. no commentary tracks plus the DVD is actually UNPRINTED (it only has a ring around the center saying the name in industrial type) and when I went back to the store with it they said they all had that. Would be too ridiculous if it wasn't in the bargain bin.

Haha, as I said, my wife picks some stuff. I didn't want Annapolis at all, and Ultraviolet I was on the fence with. And NOES 2 is the worst out of the series, in my opinion. It's too different from the others. Creepier, yes, but Freddy just doesn't have as much personality in that one. I still like it a lot, though.

No, I got Godzilla from Amazon because I couldn't find this version in shops. And I got the other two from Golden Discs for a tenner each. 3 for 30 deals aren't awfully impressive when they're selling most DVDs for a tenner anyway these days, hehe.

Limited Edition Star Wars Trilogy

Each film has 2 discs and here's the special part

second disc has the original theatrical versions on them!!!

FUCKING FINALLY!!!!!!!!

Although the original versions have no special features, no commentary, only 2.0 surround and 4:3 aspect ratio.

George Lucas seems to be saying "pffft, here are those pieces of turds in case FOR SOME REASON you want to watch them as a joke or something"

I remember going to see this over the summer. A brilliant film that manages to tie serious horror atmosphere with brilliant comedy. Features probably the funniest moment in cinematic history as well. Fantastic.

DVD has a decent amount of special features so that's always nice.

According to dvd aficionado it doesn't come out for 2 days. So that makes me happier.

OPEN FIRE

Actually I can't believe I've never seen it yet.

It's a big box with 14 Alfred Hitchcock movies. I already owned 2 of them on DVD, but it was still worth it for the other 12. It's a really nice box that contains really good movies.

Really? It was a while ago but I remember that I couldn't watch it all. The most annoying things for me were the constant stream of "i'm DEAD!!" jokes (and lame humour/ tame gruesomeness in general), boring characters and bland musical numbers. It just reminded me how much better Nightmare Before Christmas was.

I like your cover of Kingpin better than the U.S. version. Also, I still need to pick up Rejected.

They made some nice (and needed) changes to the site, but I expected it to be more drastic. Their search function still pretty much sucks. Still, at least you can actually delete items from your god damn collection now, haha.

I kind of got the feeling from your additions that you just took as much as you could grab with two hands from the security camera's blindspot, emptied them into an empty duffel bag, waited for a not-fully-de-magnitized tag to set of the door alarm, and calming walked out of the door. 4 times a week.

Haha, I can see how you would think that. There have been several things that contribute to that recently: 1) Christmas 2) Sales and 3) I just got Amazon Prime, and 4) My wife buying things, although that is somewhat of a constant. Speaking of which:

+Labyrinth (25th anniversary edition)
-Labyrinth (shitty not 25th anniversary edition)

-The Shawshank Redemption (1-disc edition)

-Edward Scissorhands (with no commentaries)

HMV is a real piece of shit establishment. The Shawshank Redemption 3-disc DVD has been out for years but because they've got a job lot of shitty bare-bones DVDs we have to wait until they shift them all. They're still selling the boring old Labyrinth and Edward Scissorhands featureless boxes as well, I had to buy them both off Amazon. It makes my blood boil.

Very pretty, but not well known.  No plot!  No dialog!  No characters!  Lots of great shots.  You know when you see a shot in a movie that tries really hard to look good?  Every single shot in this movie is like that. Every single one.

+ Brasseye (or at least I would if DVDaf had it in their database)

the DVD is kind of shit, the extras were obviously cobbled together at the last minute and the Drugs commentary is kind of like the Nathan Barley DVD "haha you like DVD extras do you, you nerd?". needs a re-release with proper extras. Think I found sort of an easter egg, though: press skip chapter forward until the end of an episode and there's a couple of minutes of extra audio.

+ Twin Peaks season 1

Why are 6 hours of show spread over 3 discs? Extras disc is alright, no real commentaries though. Disappointing.

This movie is NOT for everyone. It's very odd, though I personally very much liked it.

aw damn I've been trying to watch that. It's on DVD already?

Godzilla 1985? on DVD? is that even possible??

edit: oh wait, I guess you got this on VHS, since you seem to be getting a lot of those lately. You got me all excited there for a second, I thought they had finally released that movie on DVD. Still, Godzilla 1985 on VHS is a better purchase than most blu-rays.

edit #2: For curiosity's sake, did you get the original version where the Russians are good, or the American version where the Russians are evil?

Yeah, it's VHS. This is what the case looks like:

as for your question about the Russians, I couldn't tell you. I tried popping it in a few minutes ago and all I got was a loud beep and static.

Extremely disappointed am I :(

I like owning movies, so I'll probably get the itch and just buy as many PM movies that I can find on Amazon for decent prices. Who knows when that'll be, though. My backlog of movies that I own but have yet to watch might be at 100 or more.

I thought you might be interested to know that I'll be using horror movies to teach my English classes this fall. We'll probably watch Night of the Living Dead, Child's Play, Puppet Master, A Nightmare on Elm Street and some others. I'm pretty excited. :D

My local video store, Sydney Video, has been going through some rough times these last few years- like every video store- but a recent bout of construction in my area* was the straw to break the camels back. They're having a blowout sale to clear all stock before they close at the end of the month so i swung by and picked up a couple DVDs.

- Trailer Park Boys: Seasons 1 & 2
- Super
- Hobo with a Shotgun
- Louis CK: Chewed Up
- The Grand Budapest Hotel
- Sucker Punch
- Extract

It was a kind of painful nostalgic feeling being in there for what was probably the last time, with all the shelves cleared out, thinking about going there when i was little renting the same goddam Robin Williams tapes every weekend, and that one N64 game about Duck Dodgers that I simply can't find any gameplay footage of. I used to dream about working there when i grew up.

Here's a picture of the place I've shamelessly taken from the 2002 film 'Marion Bridge', as though anybody really gives a shit.

it would be the place in the middle, next to the Subway.

*a bridge spanning the sydney river, that connected several suburbs to the small sydney river central area, has been torn down and is being rebuilt (very fucking slowly- they just slapped another 8 months on the estimated build time for christ sake) resulting in a general decrease of traffic to all businesses, and several closures.

wow, this is so nostalgic and sad....
i had the same experience a year ago, when my local DVD store closed, it was sad, and i felt bad about this place closing, tho i went there and took a few of the last DVD's and videogames in some good prices if i may say.
(i felt kinda like a scavenger, but hey, i had a  nice talk with the DVD-owner, and we laughed, i kinda cheered him up, if possible in such a case.)

also rob!
is this a picture from your DVD club that you took with your camera, OR it was a picture of the place shown from the movie ''marion bridge''?!

hey, if its the latter, take many pictures of the place with your own camera, dont let the memories die!

its so sad when late construction works kill local bussinesses.
