Title: Screenwriting game using Celtx
Post by: LeekClock on December 23, 2006, 05:35:03 PM

If you don't already have Celtx, then I advise you first download it (http://www.celtx.com/), and then google screenwriting (http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient-ff&ie=UTF-8&rls=GGGL,GGGL:2006-38,GGGL:en&q=screenwriting), in order to learn about the conventions of screenwriting, and how to use them yourself. It's actually very easy, and Celtx will do all the tedious formatting work for you.

This is a game to help people to get acquainted with Celtx screenwriting software. It's free, and it's easy to use.

How to play:
Download script. Add a scene. Upload script.

A cool thing about Celtx is that it lets us all work on the same script. I have uploaded a stub of a script that I have named Gone Fishin', to the Celtx server. All you have to do is:Then add a scene to the practice script, and upload your changed script. Post here after you've updated the script (to let us know that it's changed). We'll take it in turns (that means, wait until at least one person has added something new, before adding a further piece of your own).

Eventually we will end up with one very strange, but possibly interesting/amusing script. The main thing is just that we practice using Celtx. (http://pc.celtx.com/project/YwBMCD0D9f4P/view/http://my.celtx.com/res/9pSwGS5dXh5a)

Maybe the dialog box is hidden behind some other window. Try minimizing everything but Celtx.

And, are you using the latest version of Celtx (not that that should have any effect on your ability to log in)?

I can log in through my web browser, but the log in button through celtx isn't working.

This is an amazing program and thank you for introducing me to it. I already knew about screenplay writing but I used to have to format everything manually.

I added a scene. I wanted to add more scenes, but I didn't.

This application can not be run because MSVCP71.dll can't be found. Reinstalling this application may solve this problem.

It doesn't, I just rebooted, re-downloaded and reinstalled when I got this error again. Poo.

Have you not read the rest of the script. Look how others make the spoken lines. Its not

Person: Says something

its

             Person
      Says Something

There is a drop down menu at the top that lets you switch between how to type something. thx.

Also, I would like to write something lol but I am lost. Maybe its because I am tired but it looks like a tarentino film where scenes just keept switching for no reason. I'll go have a reread of it though.

EDIT: Just updated a scene. Sorry had to throw myself in there.

That's not how it works. There's no text alignment options, it's aligned according to the type of text. Character, Dialog, Action, Scene Heading... it makes script writing a dream.

How long is this going to become before it starts getting animated? I imagine this thing could easily go on for a long time (too long) without an end in sight.

Or is it getting animated at all?

Do I hear "collaboration"?
Title: Screenwriting game using Celtx
Post by: LeekClock on December 25, 2006, 08:48:14 PM
It's probably too long for one person to animate, and a collaboration suck because it needs one person's vision to make it work. Maybe it'd be good if it had a director.

For example, some scenes are just terrible (NO OFFENSE LOLZ), but they would be fucking hilarious if given the right spin.

I'd say just leave this one as a practice script, but use this technique perhaps to make future scripts - but with more of a structure/plan in mind beforehand.
Title: Screenwriting game using Celtx
Post by: VCRClock on December 25, 2006, 09:02:53 PM
There are some candidates for deletion, I think. :3 Deleted scenes or no, animating this would be an enormous undertaking, and the outcome would be pretty difficult to understand due to the bizarre simultaneously every-man-for-himself and collaborative nature of the script.

Edit I just finished yet another scene or two.

I really hate to post three times in a row, but we should get this thing finished.
I'd love to see this made into a movie with each part animated by someone else (and then connected into one movie).  It be strange, but it'd also be really interesting to see the end result.
