Fireworks - Animal Collective
beautiful ;(
K'naan - Soobax
I got a friend that's really into world music
you guys gotta hear this shit
the vocals are this almost gogol bordello-ian mixture of english and what I'm assuming is Somalian, the music is this bouncy african drum/hip-hop fusion, and the background noise crops up about a third of the way through with this fucked up synth/didgeridoo noise that sounds, at times, almost lovecraftian.

Normally I'd pride myself on being very open minded about music, but to be honest, Animal Collective is one of those bands I just can't grasp. Some of their songs are good musically, but I feel it just tries too fucking hard to be out there and "different" that it's almost inaccessible. I'll listen to their songs on occasion, and I will admit I do respect some of their dingen, but when I think of them I can't help but think "The BEES, the BeES, the BeeS, THe BeES, The BEEs, the BeEs, the BEEs Rerereruooo". I've tried Feels, Strawberry Jam, and parts of Sung Tongs. Nothing.

Lake Somerset - Deerhunter
pitchfork is pretty stupid guys honestly
christina carter-i fall in love too easily (this album is pretty high on my best of 08 list)
Acolytes by Abigail Williams
Blind - Hercules and Love Affair
also why the hell have Pitchfork claimed this to be the best of song of '08 I mean HALA on the whole aren't that great
see guys i dont ALWAYS suck pitchfork's dick hurrrr >.
Pitchforks list was so unbelievably gay. They put Fleet Foxes at the number 1 spot and there were at least 10 bands on their own list that were better than them.
I like Hercules and Love Affair though
Well I think Fleet Foxes deserve it. They're truly magnificent
shame I kinda missed 'em live
and yeah Hercules and Love Affair aren't too bad. Maybe it has to grow on me.
I was very disappointed with Fleet Foxes. First time through I hated it, after a second visit I realized it wasn't as terrible as I made it out to be, but I still couldn't enjoy it. The music is great, the lyrics are decent, but the vocals absolutely ruin it for me. The choral effects make it very hard for me to enjoy as it makes the songs lose their personality. If they made an instrumental album or one without the damn vocal effects I might like it quite a bit.
And I'm calling it: Pitchfork is going to hate the next album, regardless of what it sounds like.
Oh, almost forgot:

I agree with this wholeheartedly, same with Vampire Weekend
Also Fleet Foxes were okay but they got old for me fast
The vocals? Wow. I mean I respect what you think and all but they're beautiful. I mean Robin Pecknold's got this epic and vast voice that just reaches out and fills the room. I, and most people, shy away from acapella/choir type singing but in FF's case, it works when they all sing and it's a nice way to introduce a song if it's at the beggining.
Also yeah Pitchfork would probably have moved on by the time they have a new album out and think they're sooo last year or two years ago, same with VW.

Well I guess that's where you and I differ. I think it's cold and unfeeling, which is what folk shouldn't be. To each his own, I guess.
But no, they won't have "moved on", they aren't going to like it because of how popular Fleet Foxes are now.
