Just watch:
http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/editorials/zeropunctuation
I think I liked Heavenly Sword's the best so far, but they're all great.
And the Escapist itself is a magazine that tries to go "deeper" into the game industry with its articles than the typical shallow fare, and does a decent job, so you might want to check them out as well.
Also: Fable (http://youtube.com/watch?v=jYQLR7dE5k4) and The Darkness (http://youtube.com/watch?v=eWS9_nrKOPA) reviews on Youtube, before he got picked up by Escapist.
Yeah, they're awesome. I wonder how long he can keep it up.
Lolsworthy. Reminded me of Brainiac.
My anti-Clock friend introduced me to this fine fellow. He's finally pulling his weight (my anti-Clock friend, not Ben Croshaw).
I've watch each review a minimum of ten times, and they never get old. :)
this guy is awesome!
Godly breath capacity, that man.
He's a good writer too, check out his site //www.fullyramblomatic.com
Wow. I wonder how he prepares his reviews, his delivery is so awesome.
He was right about fable.

My guess is he writes them and rehearses a bit
Quote from: Henchman 21;1033608My guess is he writes them and rehearses a bit
I like to think that it's improvised; it has that effervescent charm about it. I shall ask him.
I have no idea how he maintains the same tone through his delivery.
Quote from: Dick Nixon;1033630Just watched all of them, great stuff. He needs to make more!
Tune in every Wednesday.
Enjoyable
Ah this fellow, I saw the BioShock one not too long ago. I just watched the Heavenly Sword one, good shit.
edit: woagh just went through and watched all of them, i'm hooked this guy's great
haha this guy is great.
Quote from: The 37th President;1033613I like to think that it's improvised; it has that effervescent charm about it. I shall ask him.
I asked him; turns out it is scripted. :o

Does he rehearse them a bit?
Quote from: Henchman 21;1034359Does he rehearse them a bit?
I doubt it, but you should ask him this time. I don't want to nag him. :o
EDIT: Never mind, I asked him anyway.
Why wouldn't he? You think he nails those intricate, super-long sentences on the first take every time?
Quote from: Henchman 21;1034428Why wouldn't he? You think he nails those intricate, super-long sentences on the first take every time?
It's possible and is a frequent and favourable characteristic in the world of journalism. This guy seems cool and articulate enough to not labour over his material.
Though he'll probably confirm it one way or another soon.
I can almost guarantee that's rehearsed, and it's a certainty it's scripted.
I've tried cold-reading speeches I've heard several times in the past (I have a dream, for example) at half the speed he does, and I still trip up on words and phrases that I really shouldn't trip up on ("quant-quantitittt-I can't say quantity, what the hell!"). In order to have that flow, your brain needs to kinda know what words are coming next before you get there.
He might not have to rehearse that many times, though, and he might get away with just backing up a little bit and editing the audio so only the smooth bits are in there (probably strips out some of his pauses for breaths also), so it might be minimal editing and minimal rehearsing, but there's no way he does 5 minutes straight of audio without fucking up, ever. Haven't you guys ever seen outtake reels, and that's professional actors with only a handful of lines to say, with breaks.
Oh, he may not do actual "rehearsals" either. He may just go until he flubs up, back up a few sentences, and start again until he next flubs up, backs up a few sentences, and keeps going, all the way to the end, and then just edit out the flubbed bits.
Still, the delivery is great, and i like his humor.
And it's a lot funnier to image some guy sitting behind his computer jittering all this surrounded by several cases of Coke or Bawls or whatever people drink to stay awake.
Quote from: Wind-up Clock;1034473Still, the delivery is great, and i like his humor.
Exactly, and that's all that matters :P. Well that and his tendency to say unpleasant truths the games industry really needs to hear (casual gaming, shallowness in games, etc).
But I know what you're thinking: "Yahtzee, you charismatic stallion!"
Quote from: SageClock;1034463I can almost guarantee that's rehearsed, and it's a certainty it's scripted.
You're ruining my childlike naiveté. :(
He fucks up what he's saying in the BioShock one I think, but keeps going for the humerous effects it causes. Unless it was scripted, I really can't remember. :X
Quote from: PoisonShroom;1034788He fucks up what he's saying in the BioShock one I think, but keeps going for the humerous effects it causes. Unless it was scripted, I really can't remember. :X
I think he's referring to some thing in
System Shock 2 since it's so damned similar to something in
BioShock. I've never played the game, but given the position of the review, that would make sense.
that guy is clearly jesus' english half-brother
I love the Psychonauts review maybe if this gets popular enough people will actually buy it and people will realize its greatness and companies will recognize Double Fine so they can start making Psychonauts 2, since it was obviously set for a sequel and I'd give my left testicle to play such a thing.
i don't like his hatin' on casual games much, those are the only games i really play

I think this is the first game review where the reviewer completely owned the fanbase with Q.E.D. He rocks so much.
He never did get back to me on how he rehearses, though. :(
He hit the nail on the head with the Psychonauts one.

He isn't the only person with a loud voice that's spoken about how good psychonauts is. It's in the same boat as Beyond Good and Evil I think, they're apparently both horribly underrated games. I've read this loads of times in magazines on the interbutts.

Heh same, and I am wondering now where will Mario take off since admittedly he has been EVERYWHERE with the SAME chore with the SAME chick with the SAME villain and the SAME plot, however I love Mario and Nintendo, who can I blame.
Getting back, where could he be next time? He has been in paintings, made of paper, fought an enemy out of their dimension and logic (Super Mario RPG), gone under the sea, space, under space. What now?
Okay, I'm a huge fucking faggot so heres why I disagree with the Galaxy statement:
The game uses three fucking buttons, Sunshine used ALL of them. Seriously, if he strained his arm doing the twirls in galaxy he either has an arm made from some sort of leather or doesn't realize you just need to flick it slightly.
Anyway look at what a bitch I am.

pure classic, in my opinion.

It's really not a bad game, it's just incredibly broken. It feels a bit like the developers set out to create a competitor for Morrowind, blew their budget in the first year of development, then released it several years late due to the absence of funding and the diminished will to piss about with it any longer. That would certainly explain why the dated graphics are medicated with pixel-shader abuse.
It's pretty fun if you install a transportation mod and just drive around exploring.

I'm interested to see what he says about Brawl, although seeing as he is in Australia, that could be quite a while.
I doubt he'd do it even when he gets it.
And I doubt release dates have anything to do with assigned games, the escapist pays for all his stuff so I would assume that they also could afford to ship him a game from the states.

If this entire video wasn't clearly for the purpose of bashing a game he quite clearly doesn't like in the first place, it might actually have been more entertaining than listening to a grown man cry about 'peer' pressure.

QuoteNever have I seen some much ignorance in a board before. I find it funny that Yahtzee complains about fanboys and yet he has so many of them. Brawl is a fun game and thats a fact really. I'm sorry for you guys that it didnt involved shooting each other or for having 4 people fighting each that it is considered a bad game. Really, I came to the Escapist expecting the brightest of people who can enjoy many good games as forms of art. Boy was I wrong..
Yes, art...
Quote from: Scmedic;1290146Yes, art...
Yes. Art.
People who put years into conceptual artwork, 3d modeling and design, programming physics, atmospheric effects, and fluid realistic animations tend to appreciate their product as a work of art, because that's what it is. Without art you have text based games where you imagine everything.
Also, I was surprised at the lack or logic behind his review of smash brothers brawl, as he usually only brings up all valid points.
(Please note I'm not saying that because I like the game. I've liked other games he's bashed just as much as brawl and still had been able to agree with all his criticisms)
Button mashing may work against even the most elite in fighting games like mortal kombat, soul calibur, and tekken, but try to beat someone who has any idea how to play in this game with button mashing and you're going to get blown away. Every single time.
The particle effects only go off the wall during final smashes, otherwise they're pretty impressive without obscuring the action.
But some of his other criticisms are correct I suppose, such as the annoying fighter-game standard of unlocking almost everyone you want to use, and that on certain stages if you don't have a big tv the camera does zoom out too much.
Quote from: The Pyro;1290320Yes. Art.

I don't mean to bash the guys who made the game, but a cross-universe multilayer fighting game isn't really art. The individual stuff like concept artwork and music and shit, yes, that's art and whatnot, but the thing as a whole is a video game.

The animation, the 3d modeling, the particle effects, atmospheric effects, and soundwork are all forms of art as well!
I guess I'd like to defend that aspect of it due to the fact that I am a 3d modeler and a long-time student of game and simulation programming. :wiebel:

The "He beat me because he uses Fox/Falco/Marth" arguement may have held some sort of reason behind it in SSBM, but any "rigged character" theories or tiers for brawl are completely unfounded. The games is 20X more balanced than melee is, and any character can be beaten with any character. Fox/falco/marth are not superior over the other characters this time around, and anyone who says they are simply don't know how to fight them, or are unwilling to let go of old, now-unexistent problem fads.

I've gotten more kills with olimar's ship, peach's sleep, super sonic, snake's grenade launcher, and giga bowser than I have with landmaster, because those are just as deadly and much less avoidable.
FUCK LANDMASTER is just a fad started by people who were desperately trying to find something wrong with brawl without really analyzing the destructive capabilities of all the final smashes, because they couldn't let go of the issue that fox/falco were overpowered last game.

I just thought it was because people got killed by those things and where all like well thats lame and then everyone else was like yeah it is lame when that happens.
Also I think I see what topcatyo is getting at with SSBB not entirely being art. It's kinda like making a flash but instead of drawing all the characters you just download the FLA's of the characters you want.
Everything is good but you didn't really design them or draw them, you just did the backgrounds and stuff.
I think I said that right, I hope I did.

I believe you can get it on Steam.
I considered getting Painkiller a long time ago when PC Gamer gave it a 90%. Did Yahtzee most recently review it? I don't really check the site unless this thread's updated.

I'm buying this game once I get some expendable cash now that I've beaten the entire Ratchet and Clank series in two weeks.
Okay, I just got to play Painkiller. Everything Yahtzee said is 100% true, hahaha. Except for the fact that the story is shit, I disagree with him on that because I'm a sucker for the stories behind games.

It's loud and annoying but not loud and annoying in a way that's funny, it's very generic, and it looks especially bad when compared to the intros of his other reviews which had far better music and were delightfully minimalist instead of being really extravagant and showing a shitstorm of tons of shitty shit.
Well, they probably didn't have much choice. The copyright demons probably swarmed in on him (or more likely, The Escapist) once he became popular and sponsored. His choices are probably either this music or NO music, more than likely.

So he was violating copyrights by using playing other people's music? That must mean that iPod's are a Gangster's Paradise.
Wouldn't he not be violating copyright laws if he's playing a 15 second clip of it or so? Hell, that's even less than iTunes shows.
Also if the copyright demons were to attack Yahtzee, they'd probably force him to change all his reviews.

Here's the majority of them. Hey wait, you were here for some of that! Well, I guess I meshed "SBC = King of Portal" email spam with the Castle Crashers thing. Hrm... my bad! :o
So that reminds me... SageClock may be Yahtzee, since Sage never seems to be on, and he loves these reviews... and it's not impossible that ONE of us is Yahtzee, since he seems to respond to our comments (when Snake said "Spore will probably be reviewed; and that thing with the Favorites List). If it IS one of us, I'd put my money down on the guy who started the thread about Yahtzee, and never posts in the thread (rarely at ALL for that matter.)
Quote from: Drake Bell;1405467Earlier in the thread.
Heh, you took his Top 5 in the Prince of Persia retrospective seriously.
But yes, Marlin recommended that we talk him into Castle Crashers. But then you said that he'll probably do it anyway, so we shouldn't push it. Then you flip-flopped about it (and in fact called it a "spam" instead of a "request"), and called me stupid for not keeping up with the proceedings of an 18-page thread. :p
The best way to get Yahtzee to review a game is to let nature take its course. If the game is getting attention, he'll be given it. He refused to review
Mario Kart Wii because of e-mail badgering.
And SageClock isn't Yahtzee. I've heard his voice and seen pictures of him, and Yahtzee lives in Sydney, not Chicago. Sage is just never around because he's Sage. :p
And I guessed that Spore would be reviewed for the reason I said above.

I honestly dont think that if Sage was Absinthe there would be some kind of propaganda around by himself to say HEY GUYZ COME AROUND AND CHEKC THE COOL STUFF I MAKE ON THE INTERNET
Plus we know Sage and Yahtzee´s appearances and that wouldn-t be Sage unless he got the Subway diet.
This was a very funny review and one I agreed quite a lot with despite how delighted I am by Spore.

Now now, Yahtzee's idea is simple enough for any of us to pull it off. None of us just thought of it first (or none of us can talk fast enough).
WreckingBall's tinfoilhatness is still pretty dumb, though; we have overwhelming evidence that SageClock is not British, not from Australia, does not have a British accent, does not look like Yahtzee in unaffiliated photographs, and does not own a fedora. :p

Quote from: TequilaClock;1421620I don't want to sound like a hypocrite or a hollow minded but, is it that hard to make good games these days?
Game companies believe they need to impress us, and we want something different out of a game. They are afraid to try new things because they think we won't like it.
Let's make a console, and call it the CCVG. It's beloved by old fans, and it likes to franchise games. It's rivaled by the LLVG. There are 3 new titles for the CCVG. The reactions to each go as follows:
Spitball Mania is a brand new game comes out, trying to be unique. It's a game about shooting spitwads - People complain that the game is crap, as it doesn't hold any biased opinions, it being brand new and what not.
SnakeClock's Spitout is a franchise game comes out, trying to be unique. It's a game where SnakeClock shoots spitwads - It gets hooked in previews for something new, and exciting. When it is released, LLVG fans say that it's worthless, but those diehard CCVG fans say they are wrong, and they say it is a lot of fun, not even realizing that non-franchise game is exactly like this one, minus the SnakeClock. Other CCVG fans already realized it, and are only slightly inclined to buy it. The franchise game is just as unfun as the brand new one, but the franchise addition makes some believe that it could be better.
Super SnakeClock Bros is a franchise game comes out, as a near clone of the last game of the franchise - LLVG say it's a waste of money to purchase, since there is nothing new to offer other than a new plot. CCVG fans say it wasn't anything new, and they wanted something new from it. A few CCVG fans get it, but not all of them want to "waste their money" on the game, regardless of whether or not that new plot makes the game more fun.
These are the general happenings of a new game. Even if that SnakeClock's Spitout turns out to be crap, they can get more money off out of the deal, because gamers think that a cool neat addition to a franchise game makes it really fun. Super SnakeClock Bros. is still a really fun game, but people don't feel the need to get it, because they have a game like it. People don't want to think they spent their money on something they already own, so game companies try really hard to make up new ideas to make a game fun.
TL;DR - Game companies believe that a franchised game will earn them more money if they add a quick zinger into the game. Those kind of games sell more because of the zinger, but they aren't always fun.

I watch Unforgotten Realms, that one's pretty good.
It was originally a series made on Newgrounds, the guy who makes it is the same one that made that "Splash Attack" flash.

Wow, he didn't tee off on Silent Hill Homecoming as harshly as I thought he would. I had heard that they improved the combat system of the game which would have completely ruined the idea, but apparently they didn't, and that was enough to rise this game above utter contempt and scorn from Yahtzee.

Also I don't think he played the other fallouts either, because in Fallout 2 I stole from almost every person in the game and I still had Guardian of the Wastes class karma.

Yeah my friends and I actually argue over who should sing and we're pretty huge nerds.
Big challenge: if you can't find a singer, get a mic stand and be the singer and guitarist at the same time! Go all Jack White on the game's ass!
Also, I just watched the Fable II review again for kicks and I still laugh my ass off when Yahtzee abruptly goes all rambly-cutesy at the end.

AVGN talks about games no-one cares about, acts like stringing together vulgarities is the height of comedy, and has some shitty self-made special effects in his videos that I'm guessing he thinks makes them more interesting.
Yahtzee is "IF IT'S MAINSTREAM OR RESEMBLES A FPS IT'S A PIECE OF SHIT MADE FOR 12 YEAR OLDS," he consistently gets shit wrong about video games (pretty sure the tranq gun doesn't have unlimited ammo in MGS4 for example), and probably sucks ass at games based on some of the shit he says, like when he said he was constantly getting killed on
medium in STALKER.
They should both be watched for entertainment, not for actual advice on purchasing games. If you want to find out whether a game is good, read up on it from a few serious video game magazines and then rent it at a video store.

I thought to myself that he was going to do Mirror's Edge this week. Yahtzee can't keep away from games this outlandishly inventive, even if they're fundamentally broken. Or maybe he has a psychic connection to other people with tweed trilbies. :fez:
Though I also thought he was going to do the new Prince of Persia game, since that would be the sort of game he couldn't resist seeing how they "improved" it. Maybe next week.

I'm well aware but I can't really do much about it, I can import games from the UK though, right? Maybe it'd work out cheaper if I did that? Seems like there's more hassle there though than simply walking into a store and buying a game which could take a few minutes as apposed to days, for shipping etc which might occur under getting a game from overseas.

Everything he said about Sonic is fucking true.
I think Sega is just broke. They made the Saturn in the 5th generation, and it was completely ignored. Then they made the Dreamcast, which was supposed to be a secret (some ass spilled the beans), practically giving the plans to the competition, and making the Dreamcast next to unheard of. Sega, trying to stabilize itself, pops out new Sonic games with a gimmick to attract attention, just so they can try and pay their debts off.
Also, he put Sonic Adventure 2 as a bad game, which is bullshit.

I'm not saying I love the game, I knew it was going to fail, even when EVERYONE in the Clock Crew said I was being dumb. I'll give you a link if you need a reminder. I only liked the Daytime levels, and not even all of those. It was a neat little game I played a bit, not something I cherish. I hate most sonic games, but the day time levels were not that bad.
I said the game wasn't as bad as he was making it out to be, because Yahtzee made it out like the things he mentioned WEREN'T in multiple other platformers. Like:
1. "there are plenty of times that you will die at the beginning of the level if you don't react immediately..." Uhh, take your finger off of the boost button, and you can see them?
2. "that is something I'd expect from a ROM hack, DEVELOPED BY HITLER" Nah, I've played ROM hacks before, they all have them.
3. "If you fail the quick time event, the enemies instantly regain most of their health..." Haha right. You can't prove that right or wrong really, but you can assume that's BS because that doesn't make any sense.
4. "You would need to have clairvoyance..." Again, thumb off the boost button.
5. ""Lives system" Dude, levels are 6 minutes long TOPS. If you take any longer, then you are a shame at being that bad at video games.
6. "Grading System" I like this, it gives me reason to play levels again. And if you stopped falling into those traps, you wouldn't get bad scores. See #4
You are looking at how it's a Sonic game, but if it were any other game, I'd say the same thing. He got all worked up about the game for being "hard", and it's not right as a "reviewer" to base a game's worth. He's funny, but it's a shame that he got all pissy like that. More of a "tsk tsk" than a "I HATE U WHY U DO DAT 2 SONIK?" He does exaggerate, sure, but this one in particular was more than usual.
It doesn't matter. I'm glad he knocked down Tomb Raider a notch or two. I'm tired of seeing her idiot face everywhere.

Quote from: Marlix Wright;1502651Remember when he talked about the really phoned in South African accent?
huh. i didn't really think it was the same accent. just sounded like he was Australianizing his vowels. but maybe he was trying to make a point by doing the same kind of thing that the game did.

hmm no im pretty sure he was talking in a bad fake austrailian accent because he's stupid I have already discussed this thoroughly on gamefaqs allow me to link you to a small thesis i wrot on it..
listen to the south african accent you ass puncher
Pepino, please don't tell me you just took Slurpee seriously there.
It might be like how Australian sounds a little like a British accent. Alternatively, it might be like how some think that a Boston accent is exactly like a New York accent.
(Meaning)Maybe "bad Australian" is what South African sounds like, or maybe it just sounds like that to idiots.

it'll never happen for the same reason that Yahtzee doesn't review multiplayer content, he reviews a game for any sort of consistent gameplay experience, he experienced it this way, and you could experience the exact same way if you wished, with multiplayer experience, you can never get the same experience twice.

quite good, not so bashing, but what can you get, is a freaking mod, friendly but a mod at the end
also: to comprehend Yathzee you must know that he will only point the bad things, if you get over the bad things then is a good game for you, but if you find them annoying then you must avoid the game
I can't tell if he liked the game or not. I thik he maybe kinda did.
Yeah, good user-created stuff isn't that hard to come by. The "Cool Levels" are usually on there for a reason.

Quote from: Marlix Wright;1587462If I remember correctly, SquareEnix is still a Japanese company.

You're missing my point. I think what you're trying to tell me is that TWEWY is a JARPG. Action RPGs are not RPGs.
But that's like saying an arctic fox isn't a fox because its got the name arctic attached onto it. It's just a subclass of RPGs.
I'll admit TWEWY had the same garish characters and cutscene-driven tomfoolery which is usually what Yahtzee finds so abhorrent about "JRPGs", but he was attracted to that game initially because it didn't have RPG combat. That should qualify it as different.
Also, that it's set in Tokyo is hardly an argument. Most JRPGs are set in fictional places that resemble Europe. :p
It had RPG combat, you eat food to level up stats and buy clothes for added defense and find weapons of different styles in order to destroy enemies.
I think you're confusing Role Playing Game with Turn Based Combat, which does not need to be a factor to make a game a JRPG.
Fair cop.

RobClock's dream review.
i was at first entertained by this review and it's exilent use of sarcasm but after 5 minutes it got a little stale and hurtful as a huge fan of 3Drealms and Duke.
I'm reminded of the credits of one episode when he said:
'systematically exiling every type of fanboy' or something like that.
PS. Take2 never gave 3Drealms any money to complete DNF, so the current court case as presented by Take2 is bullshit.

Okay, if you really want...
TakeTwo paid $12 million for the publishing rights in 2000, and if 3D Realms wasted their investment, I think they're entitled to file a lawsuit. It's ridiculous to say that "no money changed hands"; what, do you think TakeTwo just came in there every three years or so to offer moral support? :ohdear: Even if that wasn't the case, the head-spinning amount of
time that was wasted is grounds for a lawsuit.
I'm still of the opinion that you're the last person in the world who was looking forward to this game, because Duke Nukem is basically the male version of Lara Croft.

the 12 million TakeTwo paid was to buy the publishing rights from, not 3Drealms but, Infogrames (who changed their name to Atari in 2003) who had consumed the publishing rights for DNF from the buyout of GT Interactive who originally had the rights.
that being said, 3DR has only seen the 2 million from TakeTwo and that was for an "unannounced game", not Duke Nukem Forever.
the development time for a game is not grounds for a lawsuit, if TakeTwo was really pissy about that, why didn't they sell of the publishing rights to someone else? answer: because this current lawsuit is nothing more than a bully tactic for TakeTwo to aquire the developing rights for Duke Nukem then sell it off to another company.
Quote from: Atrus;1587693Duke Nukem is basically the male version of Lara Croft.

and I'd have to disagree because i don't think that 13 year old girls with holes in their pockets would be fingering themselves to pictures of Duke.
no no, both Lara and duke appeal to the same fanbase.

Yes, I get that distinct impression. It's a satire.
that's a terrible joke.
Webcomics about video games are akin to cancer-riddled ballsacs. Even if they're satirical.
It's not a webcomic about video games, that strip was a parody of them, hence the "WEBCOMIC ABOUT VIDEO GAMES" written in bold at the top. If anything it was showing the fact that the characters have obvious gaping flaws and aren't really ideal characters for light entertainment
Also it had Duke Nukem

oh god that comic is like telling a stupid cock joke to a bunch of teens but you try to set it up too much and it sort of dulls itself out and so when you get to the punchline no one notices and they're all like "ok" and you feel like laughing out of nervousness but it's too awkward and you can't say the joke was a satire because it wasn't satiring anything in a funny way so you cry to sleep LOL

Quote from: TremcladClock;1617208Which shit games does he think are good and which good games does he think are shit?
He has an irrational hatred of fighting games and MMOs, hates above average games like Mirrors Edge because they didn't meet his inflated expectations. I think I remember him reviewing Shadow of the Colossus poorly too, but don't quote me on that. Games he thinks are good that are shit is harder to come up with because he hates everything but Prince of Persia and Portal and one or two other I don't remember. I'd have to look through his whole list of reviews to find more examples but I think his poor reviews can be summed up in "I'm a edgy teenly high standards to the point that if you listened to him you would never play a new game ever"
EDIT: Also he didn't like No More Heroes, what a dick
Quote from: Thor, God of Thunder;1617219hates above average games like Mirrors Edge because they didn't meet his inflated expectations.
This is the only thing that I don't like about ZP, but he STRESSES IT SO FUCKING MUCH that in the last weeks it's 90% of the thing. Hell, you could take this week's episode where he'd keep blabberin on how the game wasn't as good as the movie.
Also that contest between inFamous and Prototype a few weeks ago was awful beyond belief.

I will agree with most of you that he is very funny and entertaining . However, I will also agree with Thor that his standards are so high that he dislikes some very good games. EX: Everything for the wii, even the wii's best games, Crysis, The Sims 3, Mirror's Edge, GTA: Chinatown Wars, EVE online, and most of all, GTA4, which, in my opinion, is one of the finest games of this generation.
There are more that he dislikes that I like but I didn't want to make this post too long, those are just what I disagree with the most.

I was actually surprised by how really responsive it is, at first I was like "yeah that's what I heard back in 2006 fucker, prove me it will work", but it actually did. I'm pretty sure the motion controls were the least of Red Steel's downsides
The motion thing could have worked if they weren't relying so heavily on it, they sacrificed way to much graphic and processing power in the process. Would the Wii have had similar specs to the 360 and ps3 AND the whole motion stuff, then it would have been an awesome console.. as it is now.. it's "family fun"..a term that brings despair into the hearts of real gamers.

I loved the third Monkey Island :(
Quote from: Poltergeist;1660147I loved the third Monkey Island :(
Me too but he is right that it's a big step away from the first two. It's not necessarily a bad step but it does kind of disregard the others.
Apparently Dave Gilbert had planned the Monkey Island series as a trilogy and had a story that legitimately followed the end of the second game but he got kicked out before he got to make it. A lot of the DIE HARD FANS reject Monkey Island 3 because of that even though it's still a nice game in its own right.
Are you talking about the new monkey islands or the third one? I thought it looked perfectly lovely, to be honest, but yeah, the newer episodes are ugly as sin.
Quote from: RibsClock;1660161I had a hard time liking monkey island 3, partially for the reason that Yahtzee stated regarding the difference in style from the glorious pixel masterpiece to the cartoonish style (which admittedly having become an animator has made me appreciate a little more) and partially because...well, it just seemed like a different character, a different game, I probably would have loved it to death if it wasn't supposed to be Monkey Island.
It's like, hey you know I love making new friends, but when you go to the airport to meet this friend you haven't seen in a long time and someone comes out wearing your friend's name tag it doesn't matter if they're a perfectly cool guy in all other regards.
As for this new guy...boy he's ugly, and he smells bad too. I don't think I want to shake his hand, because I don't want to associate the fond memories of my friend with this new guy's stink.
Pretty much yeah. Thankfully I was too young when I played the third one to really mind the change so I grew up liking both of them. I replayed Monkey Island 2 recently though and it is seriously the best one ever. I loved the silliness of the third one but it just can't stand up to the additional dark elements in the second.
The third one sure has lovely design though eh.

MW2 review was funny; I liked it. But he's still a fag for never playing the multiplayer of any FPS that he reviews when 9/10 times it's the staple of the game.

a good game shouldn't have to rely on the multiplayer.

What? What about games that are nothing but multiplayer and that's what makes them fantastic? (http://www.teamfortress.com/)

thats kinda the whole point tho, the game sold so amazingly because the multiplayer is awesome, it probably would've sold nearly the same if there wasnt even a campaign mode in the game.

Yeah, in most cases (Brutal Legend) it can really kill a game, but like Marlin said, some games that focus well enough into multiplayer can pull it off perfectly.

By this logic you could say Left 4 Dead is boring because you play by yourself.

maybe because yahtzee sounds tired again?
Quote from: Admiral Gaybaby;1707316Yeah I agree judging a game like that for its single player is like judging Half Life 2 for its multiplayer.

This would be the reason why he doesn't judge a game on it's multiplayer.
http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/columns/extra-punctuation/6832-Extra-Punctuation-On-Multiplayer.2I can't say that I would consider a game which can only compete because of it's multiplayer is much of a game anyway.
as a critic you shouldn't judge a game on it's multiplayer anyway because a great deal of that is based on a users personal experience which can differ greatly from each individual.
is yahtzee reviews by his own standards, and his audience knows that, then what's the problem?
