Title: Fading Away
Post by: Blue on December 02, 2007, 12:37:49 AM
This is an old idea for a project, but I finally have the time to work on it.

This is eventually going to be a surrealistic horror/drama animation, which uses no original drawings. At first that may seem easy, but what I'm trying to do is essentially animate still images in order to give a photo-realistic feel to the animation. I believe this will also add an odd and eery theme to the project.

I hate animating linearly these days, so I'm doing one little scene at a time, working my way up to the more difficult stuff. This way I get to hop from one special effect to another to keep myself from getting bored.

As usual, I'll be adding ambiance and other audio last, except for when the animation is critically tied to some sound.

As for the plot, it is still somewhat liquid as I'm still playing with some possible endings and origins.

I will be making one little scene or segment at a time. And hopefully posting these snippets here will get me some feedback (constructive criticism), and some extra motivation to keep working on the project.

Please note: These scenes will be completely out of sequence. I'll only post a scene when I feel it's worth seeing, or worth some criticism. And a warning, this WILL break tables, so it would best be seen in Firefox or any non-IE browser.

Doomsday
This little scene took me the most of the day (believe it or not). It was made mostly from 3 images. There is alot of hidden movement and tweens going on, and I'd like to keep working on it to make it look more realistic (the buildings need to fall n shit), but unfortunately it already lags a bit too much for my liking, so I'll probably optimize it a good deal, or at least scale it down a good 20-30% (it will be seen from a window) before I can work on it further.

that was amazing, you might wanna smooth out a little more edges in that scene and add a little bit of a blur to the mushroom cloud, but besides that i cant wait to see this shit, no one takes this route for shit!

Loosing it
I made this yesterday, took a few hours in fact. This is a little taste of how reality is being bent in the mind of the protagonist near the end. It has a sort of a "butterfly effect" feel to it... I don't really like the way it came out, but I'm not sure how to fix it either. Maybe change the timing? I know sound may help this scene out, but I hate using that as a crutch.

I remember your Lotus Tit-related thread(s) on Clocktopia. This looks like it will be something new and different, and great overall. Good luck with it!

I think the kitchen(?) scene looks fine, with fewer rough edges than the armageddon scene (something about the building edges seems off, as does the mushroom cloud rising - the aspect ratio doesn't stay intact, so it looks a tad cardboardy.) If you don't like the way "Losing it" came out, the only thing I can think to suggest would be to change up the doors(?) that border the left and right sides. They look kind of like brushed metal, or some really wide elevator doors or something. Maybe a more domestic-looking wall (with a light switch or something) would be a good fit?

Edit The title scene is fine!

Title Screen
Nothing real flashy here. Will no doubt be the easiest scene in the whole film. Looking back on it now, I'm not sure I like it though. Maybe if it were bigger, or less vivid?

The birth place
Now on to the really weird stuff :)
I like this one, even though the house is a bit low-res. The "bones" are actual finger bones, only it looked better with more than the usual amount of fingers. There is a 100 frame lead-in requirement as the legs are being placed with their needed delays. This will be one of the first things seen in the "surreal" world where the protagonist meets his destiny.

All of them looked amazing, but maybe in 'Loosing it' it might look better if the walls didn't go to black totally.

Yea, thanks for the comments guys, I'll be replacing those walls with better looking ones, as soon as I can find some. The walls I used were made in too much of a hurry, and I made them get dark mostly because they are ugly, lol.

I'm not ready to do a traditional clock movie yet... maybe in a year.

Deep Stare
This took just under 5 hours this morning... Mainly because I wanted each eyelash to have it's own smoothened tweens to give the image depth (probably a stupid idea). The reflections in the eye aren't quite right, but I might work on it further later since I'll have to add reflections for whatever light sources there are in the room.

These are simply amazing, deep stare is fantastic and so real looking. Where did you get the idea to do this if I missed it somewhere in this topic?

I think I got the idea from this. It was the first one like this that I made purely out of boredom... Then I was like, I should do a whole animation like that to creep people out.

I haven't had much time to do any fun flash for a while, but just so you know I haven't forgotten about this project...

What is it?

Honestly, I don't know what that last thing is... Ever open flash and not have a clue what you're making till your done?

Meh... I'll find a way to use it though :D

The bug thing stands out too much I think, so it dosen't match with the nice looking background really.

I agree... adding a blur lagged it up too much though, so I'll have to do some fading.

Do you Photoshop the images at all to get them to work for you?

Sometimes... But only minor changes to reduce lag... Trying to do this as much in-flash as possible.
