Title: Why isn't stardock capable of making good software
Post by: HeinekenClock on March 16, 2008, 08:52:53 PM
I mean, all of their programs are spectacular and most of them unique, but they always fuck up in many small ways so it's hard to enjoy them.

ObjectDock, for instance. Great piece of software, however, replacing all the icons is a massive bitch because you can't set a default image folder, so you have to navigate there every time. Centering the dock? Impossible. It's easy to align the tabs though, because that's more important. Do you want the dock on the right side of the screen? No problem, except that you can't read shit because it rotates the text counterclockwise instead of clockwise. Also, all the default icons will neatly be rotated as well, but if you have any other software besides winamp, itunes or firefox, it will not rotate them, resulting in half your icons being rotated and half of them not.

Then there's windowblinds. Great idea! A program that will skin windows for you, quick and easy. Problem however, is that nothing works. The entire adobe CS3 will protest loudly, wacom tablets mysteriously start malfunctioning, list goes on.

I have no idea where I expected this topic to go but I just needed to rant because this pisses me off.

Rocketdock is a spectacular alternative to Objectdock.

Well if you'd strip ObjectDock of all it's functions, you'd get rocketdock.

Seriously, though... I find docks a bit confusing.  Maybe I'll get into them later when I have enough memory to actually need one.  I still do things the old fashioned way with icons and menus.

i've never had any desire (well, since i was like 16) to reskin windows, but I just picked up the sins of a solar empire game they published last week, and it's pretty fun, and is just about the only PC game out there nowadays that doesn't check to make sure your CD is in the drive when you start the game up without a No-CD crack.

Seriously, while I was in bed about to go to sleep last night, I thought "I should've moved that thread to the computer forum."

And then I realized how lame that was.
