It was the man cannon. I needed to get over there to stop someone from getting the bomb planted (I think, not sure...it's been like 6 months since that), and in fact I shot someone dead midjump there.
If you're pretty good, or you're playing against idiots, it's not always that much of a risk to go out in the open with the maulers.
