Forgive me if this has been posted, but I couldn't find it. What do people make of the recent protests during the torch relays in London and Paris?
I support them and wish I was there with a fire extinguisher. Hopefully people will have the sense to boycott the Olympics because China isn't acting very nicely. I'm glad the Australian leader has banned Chinese security when the torch goes there.
A video of some stupid Chinese students thinking they were great made me swing that way.
P.S. nice playlist mang.
Haven't heard about the protests, but China's a dick and we shouldn't let them play our games.
I saw the news earlier today, and I felt that I agreed with the protesters too. The article also said that protesters were expected in every city the torch was to appear. Good.
The Chinese response (http://news.xinhuanet.com/english/2008-04/07/content_7935931.htm) was basically like "they're being mean! " while showing no inclination to admit there's anything wrong with China.

What the fuck, you guys.. :(
But seriously, I think this is excellent. Sure there maybe some suffering, but we all know that the policeman that cracks your head open during the protest is just helping the cause! With the Olympics and the recent evil-doers (as George Bush eloquently puts it) bringing a lot of media attention and support for causes within China.
Edit: By "this is excellent" I mean the ongoing Olympics preperations in China, not the ones trying to stop them.
according to china the protesters are part of a TIBETAN SEPARATIST GROUP

Tibet was never theirs, so they can just fuck right off with their empire! And while you're at it, England, get the fuck out of my Northern Irelandsz.
I'm all for boycotting the Olympic games. China has for too long oppressed its peoples and violated dozens of human rights. And they're allowed to get away with it and retain their power because of a greedy global economy.

For once I can agree with Loki.
China also claims Taiwan, which is actually founded by the leader of the opposing communist party (the democratic side). Look how great they are doing!
Also, I bet there are no Chinese protesters in China!

I don't think they're protesting the Olympics.

HE WAS JAYWALKING.
I was talking with some friends of mine today about how great it would be if we could have Northampton (the town I live in) pull out of the USA and join the Netherlands, taking all their laws and giving them our tax money.

Nope! He's on the crosswalk! See! :tut:

Please, Albino, tell me you're just kidding and not one of those I'm a edgy teen kids who has some glorified view of Europe. :concerned:

But the light is green!
Whatever. China will own all of our asses in a few years due to all their imports, and us buying them. Not to mention the large ammount of intelligent people they have here.
Quote from: WhiteClock;1276313No, you would get shot.
Shot if you're Chinese, but canned if you're foreign.
Gordon Brown isn't going to attend the 'opening ceremony'.
Quoting some Chinese statesman, "we will not be merciful" (to anyone blocking the torch route from Tibet to Mt. Everest)

Great!
Fuck you, China.

QuoteOlympic gold medalist and outspoken Darfur activist Joey Cheek has had his visa revoked by the Chinese embassy, hours before the speedskating champion was set to fly to China. And he wasn't even planning on wearing a mask when he got there.
Chinese officials don't need a reason to revoke anyone's visa but, in their eyes, they had plenty of reasons to snatch Cheek's. He is the founder of Team Darfur, a group of 70 athletes whose goal it is to raise global awareness of the human-rights violations taking part in the Darfur region of Sudan. China's military, economic and diplomatic ties to Sudan have been well-publicized in the lead-up to the Games.
The Olympics is supposed to be an event where we all forget that we hate each other for a while and just play some sports. OF COURSE SOME PEOPLE WANT NO PART OF THAT RIGHT
The torch should be on orbit so there aren't foolish statements.
Quote from: joliet_jane;1377595Fuck you, China.

Yea, thats beyond ridiculous. Is he actually competing though? If so its even worse.
Next up, China revokes the Visa of thousands of Olympians they feel are standing between them and the gold.

Just wanted to say how lolworthy I find this comment because the reason the 'leader of the opposing communist party' is there is because he was forcibly removed from the mainland after being thoroughly beaten by the PLA and Mao. Taiwan (the ROC) claims all of mainland China, look how great
they're doing.
what stupid fuck's idea was it to have the Olympics in china
I think the whole situation is a load of bullshit. I'm all for bitching about politics whenever possible, but since when did sports become a time to soapbox? The Olympics should be about athletes from around the world coming together for peaceful competition, not bitching about some backwards feudal land being regulated by the PLA or aggressive domestic peacekeeping.

I don't know if you're laughing with me or at me :\
Quote from: yo if your smart you;1377603What are you babbling about, man?
"Let's bring politics and hate into an athletic competition before we boycott it all together." is the mentality of some countries and it's terrible.
I think we should boycott the olympics because it is boring.
what's a china?
The Chinese government sucks. That about sums it all up.
