Title: Today was a sort of epiphany day for me
Post by: Topcatyo on April 10, 2008, 09:15:05 PM
Warning: tldr post

Today's been some sort of epiphany day for me today.  I'm not even sure if these epiphanies would've happened had it not been sunny out.
Weather really affects my mood.  Mostly, if it's a beautiful, sunny day outside, I'm super duper happy.  It's not the best system, but it works.
When I say "epiphany day", it's more like an "epiphany evening".
Silly Putty sent me this video (http://youtube.com/watch?v=8AOrRoISLEo).  It's No Rainby Blind Melon.  I'd heard the song before but never knew what it was called or who sang it, but now I know and I really love the song.  Like, top 10 like.
But that's all irrelevant.  What is relevant is the hilly place the band's playing.  You know, the Windows default desktop looking place.
Now, it occurred to me that this place is, in a a simple way of describing it, awesome.  I have dreams and daydreams of going to a place like that and living life free of worry.  Now I really really want to move there.  Be a hippy of sorts.  Abandon all civilization and just go to those hills and live free of worry and everything and just have fun and live life in those hills, stretching on endlessly for miles.
Again, hippy bullshit, but still.
Well, then I did just about the opposite of that daydream and watched the premieres of the shows on NBC that were coming back after the strike, a very not not-civilization thing, if you ask me.  Probably couldn't have come at a worse time for such a thought-process happening at the time, but oh well.
Well, after watching the shows, I had another epiphany, but this was more like an amendment.
Rather than just sit through life and bullshit my way towards hopefully realizing those dreams, I might as well try and do something to reach those dreams.  Clean up the world and all that.  You know those GE commercials where they say they're trying to fix shit in the world?  Do that kind of thing.
Now, my whole goal in life has been to coast through, be extremely nice to everyone and be generous, and live in prosperity while enjoying life as much as possible and not really doing any work.  Yeah, it's a lazy goal in life, but it's mine.
Well, it's not the best goal in life, and it's certainly not gonna happen unless I manage to accidentally create something so wonderful that I can ride on its success forever.  Again, not likely.
So, I figure, I might as well do good shit with my life and still enjoy it.  Actually commit myself to cleaning up shit instead of waiting for someone else to do it so I can donate money to it and say I helped.
And... well, I've run out of things to say, really.  It's all very articulate in my head, but then again, my head really isn't anything like real life, so I can't really help it when something awesome develops in there and I can't put it in words or writing.
But, here's the tldr version:
I'm not going to be a lazy shit in life and actually try stuff to make the world not suck.
While still doing art and stuff.  You know what I mean.
Good day.

Do not laugh at epiphanies, they are really important. The give our life meaning, in the way we discover ourselves through them.

Last night I had a very important epiphany as well, something about myself I didn't know or I was trying to pretend I didn't know bout w/e, either way I discovered:

I AM FUCKING SELFISH.

Is incredible how such a small thing, such a small discovery about yourself can change your life in a heartbeat. I know how you feel man.

You're gonna clean up this world? Good, you can start by sweeping the floor.

That video got a lot of play on MTV when it first came out.  You know, back in the day when MTV acutally showed videos.

Close, I just live in a fun suburbs outside of a town.
Which, trust me, I love living here, it's beautiful, but I'd wanna be completely detached from civilization.  I'd live in a tent n'shit.

I thought about cleaning the world up once. But those people never make any money, pollution makes you happy, not free green hills. That's why we invented it in the first place, we aren't monkeys.

Yea, places like that look amazing. I've always loved the thought of living by a sunny beach and just surfing a lot of the day when i'm not working, somewhere like America. But there's loads of nice beach's where I live now so its good here, just not as sunny as America.

Was talking to a colleague yesterday afternoon, saying I was surprised people make it so hard for themselves to be happy, since they're unable to enjoy small things, like sunrays coming from behind clouds, or the wind in your face, or the sound of a beerbottle opening.

He looked at me funny.

It's the truth though, people get so wrapped up in money and their careers that they forget why they even bother.

Those are the kinds of things that always make me happy :)
Like, sometimes I open my windows at night just so I can enjoy the sounds of the night, which are always so nice and calming.
My cat sheds a lot and whenever I pet him and hug him and stuff I've always got hairs all over me, which makes me happy because it's like a blanket.
People say I'm immature, but I like to think I'm happy.

It's not required to be happy, per se. Crazy and deranged people are happy too.  What *is* important is that people shouldn't be making it so hard for themselves to feel content.

Like that cat shedding hairs over you making you happy? Yeah, that just makes you crazy mang.

I'll just say this;
In the United States Constitution, it is said that people have the right for happiness.
This is what formed the american dream; to claim this right to be happy.

I say noone deserves the right to be happy.
They deserve the right for pursuit of happiness.

It is from this pursuit that man is entitled to feel content.

Haha, yeah, I know, but I like to think that if I am crazy, it's the fun kind of a crazy, not the stabbing people crazy.
But I don't really think I'm crazy, it's just that I don't let things bother me (often).
