Is it just me, or did they completely wreck the original feel?

For some reason, I was under the impression that they were taking a more realistic approach. How depressing.

They were. Then they completely reversed it.
Worse yet, the DS version looks like Yoshi's Story, complete with contruction paper style graphics.
didn't it always look a bit cartooney?
Quote from: Pyrout;1289278didn't it always look a bit cartooney?
Not nearly as much as it does now.
they only made the cell part more cartoony and to be honest im kinda glad, it looked really bland looking at first. everything else is just the same as it was.

Really? Maybe I was too caught up on the DS version that I saw in Nintendo Power.
Quote from: WikiepdiaThe Space phase will also feature the game's main villain, the Grobb (Borg spoken backwards), an evil robotic species which serves as the ultimate challenge for the player in which they must fight off an invasion of their home planet.[29]
Haha, and I thought Maxis hated references to the pop culture. Yeah, the tidal pool phase doesn't look too bad. The cell part does seem a bit cartoony, but from what I've read, the rest still follows the original concept for it.
It looks fine. I think having over-exaggerated features makes it even funner to create your own creatures.
I like the new tidepool phase, it's cute.
I agree that i prefer the old version.

Not to mention the ability to drop large black monoliths (a la 2001: A space odyssey) which supposedly speed up the evolution process of that species.
Form what I read the only difference to the one in-game compared to 2001's is a hole in it. =/
From the references and what was mentioned about Maxis maybe one could guess they have some new, sci-fi going developers on board? :sherlock:
what the fuck
where did that ground breaking game go
what is this shit that replaced it

I dislike having a universal enemy, what happened to no ones universe is the same? I want to kill one eyed weasel monsters not some fucking lame ass Star Trek bullshit. Fuck you you nerd asshole Will Wright.
Wait, so there's an enemy?
Oh well, at least he's optional (I think?)
Other than that, it looks about the same. I don't see what the problem is, unless if someone would be willing to explain to me.

some evil cyborg race destroys shit, shit you might wanna take over yourself. nobodies running my galaxy but me >:C
They wanted it to be like a toy that a kid would play with
I just want to model stupid looking creatures. I honestly don't care about the gameplay.
I wish it looked more realistic. I remember watching a video where they made these dinosaur things, they looked a lot less cartoonish.
I'll bet they made it all exaggerated because they couldn't get the evolution and graphics jive the other way.
i do like the look of the space phase though

I can't think of a demographic with more spare time, besides the unemployed, but they don't have money to spend on games. Kids have plenty.

destroying the borg isn't optional, it's your fucking responsibility to destroy them.

Oh, well that sucks.
Still gonna buy the game, though.

I think it may actually be optional in the game
BUT IT'S YOUR FUCKING RESPONSIBILITY TO KILL THE BORG!
