Well it is basically the logo which is a-ok as I can't fin extra details to add. I would suggest to try making a standard round clock, not sure of your style tho. Nice lookin'
I love RHCP please dont be shitty and sully their good name.
I don't like it. Jazz it up and make it less simple.
It's clean and symmetrical, so kudos on that. I'm sure there's more you can do to bring it to life, though. Maybe add some gloss or detailing to it and try to inject more character into the clock face, if you please.
too simple
Yes It is simple, But then again the RHCP logo is only a star shape thing. Anyway thanks for the comments I'll get to updating it. Thanks :D
It's nice and clean, and easy to build on.
Well, I have a new copy :D. I love how the body came out, The clock I don't know, Kinda experimental. Tell me what you think :)

Eh the clock is horrid in the new version, sorry :wiebel:
You could probably experiment with a little gloss and shade to give it a glasslike look, which would be cool on this I think. If you don't know what gloss is, I recommend looking it up.

i thought it looked kind of cool, but would be really tough to make expressions with that thing
I like the asterisk-clock.
Never use gloss ever. Try filling in the wedges on the new clock face with dark gray triangles, so that it looks like the clock it's self is hexadecagonal in shape with the logo shape embedded. Also try drawing the hands and numbers with a small brush instead of lines, and make the body more saturated. Screw the people who think it's too simple, simplicity in design is perfection, your character is a logo, and good logos have nothing to do with anything if not design. So, the rest of your avatar should follow suit.
it needs gradient
Getting better! I like the clock very much.

I hate it when people say things like this, as if a certain way of doing something is wrong in 100% of the time.

It's a matter of my opinion that gloss is ugly and gaudy. I would find it acceptable iff the material being drawn is a glossy thing, like pearls. But then I hate the look of pearls, too.
fuckkkkk yeah rhcp, best band ever

Well there's gloss and there's gloss.
Both of those images make me want to shoot small children.

Noh!
Yes. It's unrealistic, disgusting, and needlessly shiny.
Lol, I check this thread after 10 days about cause well.. Ya ive been recording in NH with the band and shit, Umm All good suggestions ill get right on to making edits to my clock, Thanks everyone who posted.
Sorry for the double post, Well i finished my .fla. If anyone would like to see / Use it in a movie go ahead. http://www.clockcrew.cc/talk/library.php?do=detail&item=3380&nocache=246 Please tell me how it is :D
Quote from: ZeitmiserZeitmesser;1299294Yes. It's unrealistic, disgusting, and needlessly shiny.
It being "unrealistic" is irrelevant because art doesn't have to be realistic.
"Disgusting" is an obvious matter of opinion.
"Needless" is an arbitrary assessment, not to mention a pompous one -- if the artist feels it is needed to convey what they want, then how can another person say it is needless?
I don't even use gloss anymore by the way because I have grown out of it, I am just playing devils advocate. I'd even go so far as to say I agree with you to a large extent, I just feel like it is wrong to be so imposing based your reasons.
Quote from: ZeitmiserZeitmesser;1299294Yes. It's unrealistic, disgusting, and needlessly shiny.
Damn sir, you act like he posted a picture of Amy Winehouse.
Post a screenshot of the fla, I don't have CS3. :c

Needless is an opinion as well, and I don't feel anything needs to be that shiny and in that particular manner of shine.
Quote from: CubeMelonClock;1300866It being "unrealistic" is irrelevant because art doesn't have to be realistic.
The effect is used most frequently by realists trying to use a cheap effect to add perceived depth, quality, and complexity to their work that they were too shitty to attain by ingenious methods unique to the artist's style, making it a polished turd that nevertheless dupes the undiscerning.

They're, mathematically, intrinsically related.
Somebody really hates gloss!!
Did gloss touch you inappropriately as a child?
Quote from: CubeMelonClock;1301569Somebody really hates gloss!!
With the passion of a thousand burning suns.
Yes.
Well I used mild gloss/shadows for my Companion Cube .fla in my sig. I think it turned out quite fine actually.

I don't see why, it looks gorgeous.
lawl i love how this has gone into a gloss flame war... Anyways ya, Comments on my .fla?
Quote from: FloppyDiskClock;1305952Gloss when done correctly can look rather spiffy, take this 8ball I done about 2 years ago for an example.

The gloss just needs to be blended in correctly for it to look natural. You can achieve this by using lots of gradients and using soften fill edges.
Yes. With great effort, you too can make the quality of your 8-ball drawing be completely undermined by the lense flare filter in Photoshop.

Gloss is inherently not mild. Otherwise it's not glossy. It's intended to emulate paints in the glossy extreme of mattes, high gloss being that most extreme matte, which is incredibly unrealistic when drawing anything that isn't covered in extremely glossy paint, but which mediocre art faggots find incredibly convenient for polishing their turds and making their art faggot brand e-penis grow to Lock Legion calibur.

A polished turd/trashcan.
What you used in your signature was a very well executed imitation of
radiosity effects, as well as the Phong shading model, not gloss, and while I admit that it can be a little drippy at times, it is still pretty damn well acceptable.
