Title: Clockification Fix
Post by: Loki Clock on April 27, 2008, 06:30:30 AM
Change it so you need 2 months of activity to become a clock, instead of 6 months of account age. That way we don't have people who are like, "'Sup, guys? What's this about Clock Crew?" after just showing up for the first time since they made their account in mid-2006 but can see the Green Door shits.

I like that, but I'd say 3 months at least, preferably more. Or maybe inactive clockfan accounts should get deleted after 3 months.

I like the idea of 4 months of activity. So they have to post at least once every 3-7 days.

If we get rid of clockification we can't have a Green Door. So we'll have to move all mass vote operations to CLOCK CREW INTERNET TERRORISTS.

People should be clockified after making either 2 flashes that are high in quality or 4 that are less quality but high in humor. Game or Movie, it gets judged only on humor/quality. That isn't an automated system though and as the past shows us, the staff hates manually changing a usergroup.

Afterthought: It could be made automated. Have Clockfans be able to fill out a form when they submit a flash, have them mark whether or not it's supposed to be considered quality or humor. A staff member(or the whole community, it could be like our own portal of sorts) then only has to watch it and verify it's quality or hilarity, and if we pass it, the clockfan's account is awarded either 1 point for a genuine humor submission, or 2 points for a genuine quality submission. Upon the account reaching 4 points, it would be upgraded to Official Clock status.

If it got developed enough, we could even keep the little "portal" going for official clocks too, and that could be the currency system. You get points by making flash.

no, not really. This is an animating community, not saying that clocks don't do either (or all three) but we mostly gear towards animated movies.

If you could draw well enough for your comics and art to be of a high quality or humor, then surely you could make a flash with them that would also be of high quality or humor. As far as writing goes, man I'm not sure... maybe 1 point for being in the top 3 of a writing contest? We can't give a hell of a lot for writing being that we're a flash community...

I should PM this all to Leek because god knows he might've came into this thread on the first couple posts and doesn't intend to come again.

No offense intended but it sounds like a meaningless system, as quality and humour are regarded in different ways by different people, and if you were to try and democratize it by requiring a certain number of votes or something, then you would have the problem we always have with contest voting etc, which is that some films get less attention than others, and the other problem that some people are more likely to vote than others (if they vote at all), meaning that the output isn't very representative of all of us anyway.
Title: Clockification Fix
Post by: FluxCapacitorClock on May 01, 2008, 06:05:20 AM
Films getting attention wouldn't be a problem if it was set up like our own portal. It would be a matter of people either visiting the CC Portal or not visiting it. Since this is the Clock Crew and not Newgrounds, our "portal" would be far less crowded, and possibly even divided so that clockfan submissions were separate(being that they're trying to earn something).

You're right, quality and humor are regarded differently by different people, but in the art forum we can usually unanimously decide when a drawing is of a high quality while not letting the content or person drawing it sway us. The humor category would definately be for spam-type submissions, and typically when a spam flash is submitted, we can tell if it's funny or a failed attempt at being funny.

Fair enough though. What about our own portal like that being used in the context of a currency system?

Have you considered recruiting people like Roman, or even making a thread in General and opening it up for anyone to try to help with it? It seems like whenever Pineapple goes absent, everything gets put on hold. Why can't we at least try to do some things without him?

Yeah, some content actually hosted on our site would be great. Right now, the site's main purpose is that of a discussion board. Everything else links us out of the site.

(Excluding the Arcade, which is doing fine IMO .)

In some cases, letting everyone see the green door would get us in trouble with other sites. The wait periods to see it sadly are a necessity.

I consider being a clockfriend as a wait period as well in it's current state of being. Really, 7 days isn't enough for the Green Door. Like you said, people from other sites (lame Newgroundites in particular) come here just to find stuff and stir up a shitfest about it on the NGBBS.

The attack we planned on ColbertNation that one time also comes to mind, where they flocked here to stop us.

I feel gay PMing Leek again about something conspiring in this thread but I want him to address my post about stuff being put on hold whenever Piney vanishes. :wiebel: I'll wait a couple days I suppose.

I think these major site projects need more community involvement. I find it hard to believe that in a community of thousands of clocks, Pineapple is the only one who could possibly be of any help with site improvements.

I know, it's just utterly fucked-up-the-asshole. It's like the only thing the staff does around here is ban people. We need better organization for events, and much more activity within those activities. I've seen so many collabs and flash events and holidays go to utter waste because people were "busy" well fuck people being busy.

If people are busy, they shouldn't join collabs. It's a bit hypocritical for me to say that, but that doesn't change the fact that it's true.

The staff bans people and adds little things like the stetchpad, new skins, etc.  while saying that big projects are "on hold because Pineapple is missing". The little things are cool, but it's the big things we're really looking forward to. I'm sure if Leek recruited community help and made them open projects for anyone to delve into, they'd be much further along than they currently are.

Instead of saying things like:

"A portal system was in the works but it's on hold because Pineapple went missing"

the staff should be making threads that say:

"We have this great idea for a portal system that would be able to do this, this, this, and this; and since Pineapple is missing, we'd like as much normal community help as possible! Anyone can try to contribute to the completion of this site project, reguardless of your usergroup or forum status!"

Of course no more site privilages would be given out to helpers, it would be the staff's job to compile things together and implement them. If nobody helped, fine. We'd get no more done than we currently are. But it would at least look like the staff was trying to get things done and not just relying on Pineapple to return, sweep the site up into his arms and carry it to glory.

I PMed leek about this, and hopefully he'll get back to me or read this thread. Something seriously needs to get done, I have not seen a staff planned event (or a regular event) in about a month. I'm never fucking busy and I'd love to keep things like COTM and CFOTM going.

Hell, it took sage two months to come out with the results of the writing competition, and the front page still hasn't been updated!

Quote from: BlackberryClock;1301296Why should someone else work on the Atrium if it's Piney's project?

Because Piney is gone. Piney left, he's not here anymore. When he does show up, he hangs around for a week, and then he's gone again. There's no reason to suspend these great projects and ideas just because he decides to up and leave in the middle of them.

Plus, Leek said "We had great plans". WE had great plans, meaning it was more than just Piney's project.

Bumping this thread, because nothing's been done yet, but it looked like it was about to go somewhere. How about we do both, get rid of the clockfriend usergroup, but still require a certain period of activity for all users in order to be able to access the Green Door?
