I've been watching the two shows, and does anyone else notice quite a few similarities? Magical powers and gods of death not taken into consideration, of course.
- The main character is a killer that works for the cops.
- He only kills those who, in his eyes, deserve death.
- A member of the family works in the police with him.
- He tries to act like a normal person on the outside, but is really unfeeling on the inside.
- There is one person that constantly doubts who he says he is.
- There is more than one person who is like him, and knows his secrets.

.
Also, if you analyse it, some of them are following basic plot and script structure. They just happen to follow them in a similar way

speaking of which what is your avvy from, dennou coil, if so i was gonna get that but i deleted what i had to make room for more important things like 1966 batman.
also the tone of the two shows are pretty different, death note is more of a head to head battle of the wits where dexter is more dexter vs. himself.
I'd say the ice truck killer thing was like that.
