Quote from: CadillacClock;1304934Because your post were so fucking stupid it was unimaginable.

Physics means nothing.
Science is trash.
The biggest question in life is whether one should commit suicide or not.

You don't believe in science, existence, or anything at all. Yet, you still find time to tell everyone else that they are wrong. That our physical evidence is only as we percieve and that our perception are untrue. Which, may vary well be true but to discredit all natural laws, physics, and sciences all together because you assume it to be a lie is ignorance at its finest.

You clearly do not study Neurology, any Sciences, Cosmology or Astrology. You know nothing of what you preach and choose ignorants to remain Nihilistic.

I don't see how my post was stupid. Your post is nothing but pretentious shit. I never went about telling people that they were wrong; that was what everyone in the room was telling me. I have no abandoned science for that sole assumption; I have abandoned it because it has given us nothing but dash-board knowledge about life. It has simply told us "how" instead of "why". There is nothing impressive about analytical description of a natural phenomena.

I don't study Neurology, any sciences, cosmology, or astrology? Considering astrology is basically pseudo-science, I surely don't study that, Ms. Cleo. In regards to neurology, and any other sciences, I actually did study those on the undergraduate level, and I chose not to pursue them because in order to be successful in them it requires you to wear blinders to the rest of the world. Specialization is lame.

Yeah, you were asking us to assume that time was infinite and then with absolutely no connecting point insisting that that meant it repeated itself over and over again. Then once we mentioned something about physics you said physics is bullshit and science is dogmatic trash based on speculation. You're a fucking idiot.

Allow me to clear something up for you, the thing you think of as "science" does not exist. Science is not a body of dogmas that dictate how the universe works. The scientific method is a way of figuring out how the things in our world function. Information obtained scientifically might occasionally turn out to be incorrect, but that doesn't invalidate the scientific method.

There is one assumption that is required in order for any information to be obtained from the scientific method, and that's the assumption that our basic sensory information is reasonably accurate. The thing is, it doesn't really matter whether or not our information is actually accurate as long as it holds up to testing and has practical applications. We can never answer the question of how accurate our perception is, so in order to move forward at all we have to just go with it.

As to being rude, I don't feel that I have any obligation to reward complete idiocy with politeness. Personally, I don't think people who think the scientific method isn't important should be allowed to benefit from any technology, let alone post on the internet.

I don't have time to reply to all of these threads individually, so I'll be brief.

To the ones that are arguing that the scientific method is not dogmatic and is completely valid:

You are wrong. The scientific method has become nothing more than a contemporary religion; it is the catholic church of our times. It preaches an infallible doctrine, and anyone who attempts to dispute it is labeled as ignorant or stupid-- just as you are doing to me. However, the scientific method is based on assumptions-- the assumption that human logic and rationality, as well as empiricism, as the correct methods of approaching a problem. While this may yield as certain results, such as in the fields of chemistry and engineering, that are good for the advancement of techno-industrial society-- which I do not necessarily believe in-- it has not and will never (as far as I can tell) answer the more important metaphysical questions. When science tells me what the purpose of life is, or what existed before this existence, then perhaps I will respect science a bit more. But it will never do that.

Second:

You need to be careful when you call people ignorant, lest you look like a moron yourself. I don't try to play off the whole erudition label like some of you are attempting to do-- notice I said attempting. In the grand scheme of things, all of us are truly ignorant. Intelligence means nothing due to the fact that knowledge is infinite and no matter how much knowledge one gains, it does not change the fact that this collection of knowledge is finite. Any number divided by infinite is infinitesimal. There is truly no difference between Stephen Hawking and a mentally I'm a edgy teen person if you look at things in universal terms. I've actually been pretty fucking polite to the lot of you whom have shown nothing but true ignorance yourself. You have done nothing but imbue this with ignorance and intolerance..

Third:

The thing that I brought up about eternal recurrence was just for fucking shits and giggles! Get over it! I wasn't trying to say that I actually believed that to be true. I was making conversation for christ's sake! This is is the first time that I've been back to to Clock Crew in like three years, so I wanted to see what was going on. There's not reason for all this shit.

I know nothing except the fact of my ignorance.
 -Socrates

Stop trying to argue with me, because  I really don't care. I came here to make Clock movies, and to watch Clock movies.

Thanks.

It preaches an infallible doctrine, and anyone who attempts to dispute it is labeled as ignorant or stupid-- just as you are doing to me.

Wrong. The scientific method does not "preach". It in and of itself states nothing. Individual scientists make claims based on evidence and other scientists either accept or reject those claims after examining them and repeating the experiment. Scientific claims can be incorrect, but the scientific method is fucking not and you don't seem to get the difference between the two. People being dogmatic is just people being dogmatic, it has nothing to do with science.

QuoteHowever, the scientific method is based on assumptions-- the assumption that human logic and rationality, as well as empiricism, as the correct methods of approaching a problem.

As I already mentioned, we have to assume that we're interpreting reality in a somewhat accurate manner in order to collect data. Using that data we can attempt to learn more about what's going on and accomplish things using that knowledge. This works, undoubtedly. That we're having this conversation on the internet is undeniable evidence of this fact.

QuoteWhile this may yield as certain results, such as in the fields of chemistry and engineering, that are good for the advancement of techno-industrial society-- which I do not necessarily believe in-- it has not and will never (as far as I can tell) answer the more important metaphysical questions.

Again, the scientific method does not answer questions, it is a way of discovering the answer to questions. It can be applied to metaphysical phenomena if that phenomena can be experienced just as easily as it can be applied to physical phenomena. Again, as with physical phenomena, one must simply assume that the tools of perception are operating as they should be. The problem with metaphysics comes in verification beyond the experiences of one researcher, because subjective psychological/spiritual states cannot be described accurately enough to make much headway in terms of comparison.

QuoteWhen science tells me what the purpose of life is, or what existed before this existence, then perhaps I will respect science a bit more. But it will never do that.

Science won't tell you a thing. Scientific data will tell you a whole lot. Unfortunately you want information that we don't have yet. That's like being pissed that the Clock Crew can't tell you how to get your particle accelerator working.

QuoteYou need to be careful when you call people ignorant, lest you look like a moron yourself.

Anybody who says science is worthless while posting on the internet is an ignorant motherfucker.

QuoteI don't try to play off the whole erudition label like some of you are attempting to do-- notice I said attempting. In the grand scheme of things, all of us are truly ignorant. Intelligence means nothing due to the fact that knowledge is infinite and no matter how much knowledge one gains, it does not change the fact that this collection of knowledge is finite. You're just making meaningless claims and acting like it's significant. Come the fuck on, man. You're not even saying anything.

QuoteThere is truly no difference between Stephen Hawking and a mentally I'm a edgy teen person if you look at things in universal terms.

You're a fucking idiot.

QuoteI've actually been pretty fucking polite to the lot of you whom have shown nothing but true ignorance yourself. You have done nothing but imbue this with ignorance and intolerance.

I did nothing but try to get some dumb fuck who hates science off of the IRC server.

QuoteStop trying to argue with me, because  I really don't care. I came here to make Clock movies, and to watch Clock movies.

You're the one who decided to whine about it in a thread.

I don't see why this is so hard for you to understand. Your using a rather lame argument of semantics-- which I have chosen to stray away from for obvious reasons-- to refute my argument. It's pretty fucking obvious that when I said that science preaches I did not mean the abstraction of science itself; it was clearly in reference to the majority of society and academia who follows its principles. Can I make that anymore clear? And for the record I don't intend to say that scientific data can be incorrect-- which is again extremely obvious-- but I mean, and said, that the scientific method lacks validity. CAN YOU GET THIS THROUGH YOUR HEAD? THE SCIENTIFIC METHOD IN ITSELF MAY BE INCORRECT DUE TO THE FACT THAT IT BASED ON THE PREMISE THAT HUMAN LOGIC AND RATIONALITY ARE CORRECT IN THEMSELVES.

Your assumption that our interpretation of reality is the only interpretation or the correct one is a HUGE assumption. The way that we perceive objects is probably drastically different than how they exist in reality, and they could possibly be perceived in an infinite number of ways. Your example of using the internet isn't that great. It proves that we are clever enough to utilize our natural environment. A beaver can build a dam; we can build a computer. What's your point? We all die after a very short amount of time, and any technological advancement made by science has been utterly useless on us. Our time in universal time is infinitesimal, just as is our intelligence. Don't label my claims meaningless just because you don't understand them. As a follower of science-- at least I assume-- you must recognize them as being logically sound.

Try reading my fucking posts instead of just looking over them briefly and then mashing at your keyboard.

QuoteYour assumption that our interpretation of reality is the only interpretation or the correct one is a HUGE assumption. The way that we perceive objects is probably drastically different than how they exist in reality, and they could possibly be perceived in an infinite number of ways.

I never said I actually make the assumption that we're interpreting things correctly, I said that we have to assume that our sensory tools are sufficient because otherwise we can't say anything at all.

QuoteYour example of using the internet isn't that great. It proves that we are clever enough to utilize our natural environment. A beaver can build a dam; we can build a computer. What's your point?

Comparing the internet to a beaver dam is fucking insane. If you want to compare a mud hut, or even a house to a beaver damn, I'll give you that, but the internet's rather different. I can talk to someone on the other side of the globe with almost no lag over skype. That's no fucking beaver dam. That's the fruit of the scientific method.

QuoteWe all die after a very short amount of time, and any technological advancement made by science has been utterly useless on us.

Oh fuck you. People are living into their 100s now, whereas a couple centuries ago you were lucky if you lived to 30. We're not immortal yet but every time life expectancy increases, researchers get more time to make advances in life extension. Stopping aging entirely some day is not out of the question.

QuoteOur time in universal time is infinitesimal, just as is our intelligence.

The lifespan of human beings is much shorter than the life span of the universe, yes, good job. I contest the second point, mainly because I think all consciousness shares a single non-local root but I won't attempt to defend that bit of speculation.

QuoteDon't label my claims meaningless just because you don't understand them. As a follower of science-- at least I assume-- you must recognize them as being logically sound.

I understand them just fine, it's just that what you're saying has no relevance to what we're talking about.

Quote from: ouıqןɐ;1305401You're a fucking idiot.

Now hold on a minute. I can't say I agree with everything this guy says, but when you consider that each of our intelligences is infinitely small compared to the maximum amount of knowledge discoverable in the world, we're all equal. I don't necessarily agree with that either, but I see where he was coming from.

As a counter-point, may I add that intelligence is relative. When we think about it, we compare the intelligence of one person to another, not to the total amount of knowledge learanable as a whole. However, intelligence is a very abstract and subjective concept. Generally, however, we measure it by one's ability to remember things that even smarter people found out about the world beforehand, plus using their mental abilities to add to what we know.

Mind you, the human sense are very limited in nature. Humans have weak ears, weak sense of smell, have a very small wavelength range that can be detected by the eyes (although humans have pretty decent eyesight as animals). Not to mention a fairly weak sense of taste. Snakes, for one, are much better at that. And touch, of course, is somewhat irrelevant in terms of comparing it with other things, but our sense of touch works.

The thing I find interesting about humans in particular, though, is their superior mental capacity. It makes us better off than regular animals.

Examples of human superiority:

Also, here's a NON-TL;DR STATEMENT for Philosopher:

If there is no science, how would regular human beings have created the very Internet you are using right now? If you'd like, you can test the patterns that science has found to hold true. Don't trust that pure, distilled water boils near 212 Fahrenheit (100 celsius, of course) degrees at standard pressure (about the air pressure at sea level)? Try it! If you think you've found an error in such findings, tell others about it, the exact conditions you performed it in, and see if they get the same result.

Science can and will be wrong at times, thus making it not 100% reliable. However, there are general patterns in life that cannot be ignored if you want to live as you likely do now.

To the rest of the Clock Crew:

Remember that some people don't understand the world where politeness gets thrown out the window, and people actually talk about what they don't like about you. I didn't get it either when I first went on the Internet and the Clock Crew. You may want to step it down a notch so that Philosopher doesn't throw all sensible thought out the window in exchange for a perceived need of self-defense. Real life in places like where I live compared to the Internet is like Japan compared to America. They think we're rude, we think they're too polite.

There was a "duck day" on the Clock Crew. Dwarfinator made a series of epic threads using this silly animated doodle of a crude duck, dubbed "duck.fla." The Clock Crew scheduled a day where we would flood the portal with duck.fla spinoffs.

The original version didn't contain the song that goes with it, but it was later added in by Dwarfinator. Have a look:

http://www.clockcrew.cc/talk/showthread.php?t=47921

It's not the original thread or version of duck.fla, but that particular version of duck.fla is what became popular (minus the shocked face).

Anyways, the little dancing duck is an award given to everyone who participated in Duck Day.

The portal was flooded with them, and wade deleted them all because it got his panties in a knot. Then everyone was either like "WADE SUCKS DICK WIFE JOKES" or "GUYS DON'T BE MAD AT WADE GIVE IT A REST". It was hilarious but a lot of snotty drama.
