Verwitterte Melodie (Weather-beaten Melody) is an animated short film by Hans Fischerkoesen (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hans_Fischerkoesen), produced in Germany, 1943. The techniques used to create this film are, from a technical perspective, acknowledged as being generations ahead of anything else available at the time - which is made evident by the astounding use of colour, layering, sound and, of course, the animator's overall grasp on the mechanics of animation.
Prospective animators and fans of traditional animation alike should look to this as not only a source of inspiration, but a lesser-known masterpiece.

Shimmering sauerkrauts! Please keep up the daily short films!
What fascinates me most is that this movie was made so close to the war. Under Hitler, jazz music was considered immoral, but here it is, right at the fall of his influence.
