Greenday has some fun bass lines for beginners. For a good challenge I recommend Deftones - My Own Summer (Shove it)
I play bass, hit me up some PMs if you ever need some help or some fun tunes. I reccoment Stu Hamm just to gaze in awe at his awesomeness and to get you inspired/kill yourself.
Play freebird
it hurts. better use picks, sir
DON'T USE PICKS. BILLIAR BALL FUCK OFF YOU FUCKING PUSSY. BE A REAL MAN AND PLAY TILL YOUR FINGERS BLEED. (Actually don't do this, but still use your fingers. It's way more fun)
I might be getting a bass for my birthday next weekend (well my mom told me my dad's giving me a surprise new instrument that requires a good musical ear which is what I have)
yeah you get used to bass picking with your fingers and I'd imagine it to be more effective than a pick
Yeah, it's not the picking that's hurting my fingers, it's the fret stuff. I've pretty much just been toying with the pentatonic scale and other things around it, that's how I found Smoke on the Water. Music theory is fucking neat.
Aaah, yes your fret fingers can hurt sometimes but you get used to it and get calluses (I'm sure you'll get harder ones on the bass, damn those strings are thick). Sometimes calluses stay on for a while (maybe only my case) but then for some reason just fade away though the fingertips are still harder than regular ones.
I know some scales, but don't do them much. I kinda hate them but I'll pick 'em up when I start electric guitar this september (though I have an electric and have had it for a year). I don't like epic solo-ing. More, interesting riffs and rhythmic stuff and how a whole band works, not a solo-ist.
