Quote from: money.cnn.comNEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- Crude prices turned lower Tuesday on a strengthened dollar and a report showing increased output from Saudi Arabia and OPEC, while gasoline reached another record high average that stretched above the $4-a-gallon threshold.
Light, sweet crude for July delivery fell 32 cents to $134.03 a barrel in trading on the New York Mercantile Exchange as investors homed in on the strengthening dollar.
The dollar rose against major European currencies this morning.
"Seems like the dollar's trumping all right now," said Phil Flynn, senior market analyst with Alaron Trading.

I didn't read the rest of that story but FUCK YEAH PATRIOTISM! HOOAH!

Ehh not to bad. Once you realize you just have to get off of your ass and ride a bike, then spend your money as usual, the recession fear just proves to be a wakeup call to try other modes of transportation other than ones relying on crude oil from the Middle East. As for the unemployment rate, I'm secured with a job so fuck everyone else.

Looking for a summer job, but all the places are filled up, and I'ma start riding a bike to work.
If you think about it, these oil prices will rise making more people ride bikes which might help with the obesity rate here.
As for the recession, buy more stuff, boost the economy, we'll either work this all out or go poor.

So there's more expensive free health care? And last time I checked, dental wasn't free.

Ok but you can't ship things on bikes.

And it is a recession, not just a scare.

Also, the reason for the jumping prices are people invensting in oil futures (Much like all the corruption that happened at Enron)

Secretly... I've never cared about gas prices.

Sure, I have to pay 3 times as much at the pump as I used to, but I've never really cared that much...

And as great as it is that we'll soon be drilling more in the US for oil... I wish we wouldn't.

Go with me on this logic...

There is a very finite amount of natural crude oil in the world... Once it's gone we'll have to resort to man made oil which (at this point) is much more costly to procure.

Eventually the wells will run dry, and the country with the largest reserves will swiftly become the richest nation in the world (if it isn't already)... And I'm all for that being the US, when it happens... Even if I'm long dead.

Yeah guys, the day that the combined currency powers of Austria, Belgium, Cyprus, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Portugal, Slovenia, and Spain equaled about 1 and a half American dollars!

But I digress because arguing about currency value is meaningless.

As for the whole recession thing: America WILL ALWAYS hit recessions because of the business cycle:
Peak > Recession > Trough > Expansion > Peak > Repeat.
But America has been constantly following a trend of economic growth in the aggregate, so it ends up stronger after every recession. That's just how the system works.

Srsly though, having pissing contests about what country is better is just lame and pointless, especially if you are using currency as a litmus test.

The obesity rate is entirely to do with the food we eat. Here in America, nothing we eat is healthy. Everything is loaded up with preservatives, oils, fats, or other miscellaneous shit.

I don't personally care though because somehow I remain skinny even though I eat a lot, same with my dad.

Solution: Farmers Market for vegetables, meats can be cooked yourself. If people didn't go to restaurants so much we wouldn't have this problem. And it takes a little sense to know that if you practice, you can cook a fantastic meal, and properly freeze it so when its thawed and heated it still tastes good. The problem is people need to be willing to fix their problems and do things differently than their parents did, but most people don't want to.

Yeah mang, I live in Lancaster PA -- we have plenty of available "healthy" options from farmers markets and stuff. Maybe it's just YOU, Flux, who is forced to eat processed "garbage." (or maybe you just haven't looked around hard enough [come on over to my place and I'll fix you some home cookin];P)

I myself am just like you though because I just don't care -- if it feels good, do it! Same with the weight thing, I eat all the time, and only 10% is actually what most would consider healthy. I weigh about 118lbs. o-0

People are stupid when it comes to food. To much good stuff can kill you. To much anything can kill you. You can get cancer from brushing your teeth because of the germ fighters in it. You can die from overhydration from drinking water. You can die from eating to much salt, or not getting enough salt. You can die from eating sugar and getting glucose stuck in your artys or you can die from diabetes cause you dont have enough sugar.

There is no right or wrong way of eating.. there is however a right and wrong way of supplying your body with what it needs.

Example:

Eating a snickers with 100%DV of Protien + 32g of fat (119%)

is a healthier choice than

2 ounces of Turkey, 78%DV of Protien + 14g of fat (82%)

Junk food is junk, its made to snack not make a meal of, however a sandwich made of all fatty meats vs a mcdonalds chicken wrap.. yea.

There is no wrong answer on food, there is however a wrong answer on DV% thats what you should be looking at. You can eat whatever you want.

And I swear to god, getting in this argument before someone dikhead always says the same thing: Oh that one guy ate hamboogers all month and got sick

Shut up, thats not the case, reread the damn post. The reason he got sick wasnt because of what he ate.. its what he lacked eating. He ate nothing but fat and sucrose and glucose products.. barely enough vitamins and minerals needed for the body. Thats why he got sick. You can eat Mcdonalds every meal if you want, you just need to make sure you get your daily needs.
