You could keep political discussion and debate separate from other debates and what not. Not every thread would have to be a debate either there could be threads such as who do you want as vice president, your favorite president, etc.

I like this idea because I like politics. I always feel like anything to do with politics doesn't belong in General, but if I have a question or want to spark a discussion, it's not necessarily a debate.
