Title: Downloadable Content?
Post by: UnrealClock on July 20, 2008, 01:47:47 AM
Is it just a new way for developers to plan on being douches and leaving out things originally planned to be in the game you paid $60 for? Or is it just a piece of shit way to expand your game like they say it is? Either way its gay, and fuck you for looking forward to something they should have just fucking delayed a game for.

If they delayed it then they'd get an equal amount of griping, and money is money to them, so they could care less if you don't like DLC. If you don't like it, suck it up. Video Games are a business, nothing else to it.

If the price is right, I see no reason why console games shouldn't have download able content

Because now companies start working on downloadable content while working on the product itself. Wait a second shouldn't that mean when I buy the fucking game I should get the whole game? I don't mind the idea of the "expansion pack", but its just gotten stupid.

Have you ever considered that while they may be making that content at the same time, but they don't have time to debug everything so they take a section of it out as a downloadable upgrade later so they can focus on getting rid of as many bugs as possible in the main game? I mean I understand what you're feeling but you really got to realize companies want to release  as quick as they can so they can cash in and make the money back that they have to invest in the game. Games cost much more to make these days than they used to :cheeef:

Quote from: FloppyDisk Clock;1367218Me being a PC  gamer mostly don't experience that kind of faggotry.
PC Gamers get expansion packs instead.

Also, I find downloadable content to be very shitty.  In Metal Gear Online it's 16 dollars for 3 maps, a couple of voice commands and the ability to play as Meryl or Johnny.  Wee!  It's 7 dollars to buy a character and God knows how much money to buy voice commands.  This is all very I'm a edgy teen because I already paid the price for a 60 dollar video game (keep in mind the prices of video games have gone up this generation by 10 dollars).

I'm really fucking sick of DLC.  You can say "hurr well don't pay for it then".  I don't plan to, but after they release the downloadable content slowly more and more people are going to give in and pay for the shit, so then I have less people to play against in the games in the cases of some games, or more players have shitty benefits they paid for, like maybe some better guns or some shit.

It's really a thing in video games I can't wait to die out, if it ever does.

They've already increased the price of next-gen games by 10 dollars and have given us in-game advertisements everywhere (didn't you have to watch commercials in Fight Night Round 3?), and now they're skimping out on features just so you can pay for them later on instead of having them in the first place like you should have.

One of the ideas of DLC is too keep a game fresh and bring new life into it so I don't know why the fuck MGS has just released one it makes no sense and to be fair it is a really shitty thing to do.

My point is the company has the money to make this, and just because its the business world doesn't mean a company should pick apart a product and sell it in tiers. Now if you buy a game you're basically buying the "Core System", and then if you still have money and patience you can buy the "100 GB HDD" afterward. Having a larger game might even increase the sales from word of mouth.

edit: Also one of the impressive things I saw back when DLC was introduced to the Xbox was the way they handled Halo 2's DLC. You could buy it or wait. Well some people who got into the game could just hop right into it, and others could wait a while. Then even repackaged the game for people who don't have XBL.

Ugh, I'm glad the Wii doesn't have go through this. Sure, there's Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles, but last time I checked it seemed Final Fantasy is the definition of "generic JRPG."

And PC games win again, woohoo.

WTF? No, PC games practically pioneered the shit. You're just to silly and slap a sticker on console downloadable content you're to ignorant to realize its infected the whole gaming world. The only difference is its for the most part (sans all the free-2-play MMORPGs and Oblvion) its user generated content (on the PC that is). It wasn't until console games started to price the stuff (way to go Microsoft) that PC game companies thought that was an ingenious way to turn a $12.99 month MMORPG game to something that sounds free and rams about $60.56 a day up your sorry ass because you thought since you could make it free the first 40 levels you could just live off that.

Yeah, companies delaying shit on the PC just to make a buck off it happen on the PC plenty.
