You're dating this girl, things are great, and you go really well together. You can even imagine yourself marrying this girl one day. You've never had feelings like that before, and she feels the same.
She says to you one day that you made her believe in God again. You're a good person. She believes that you and her were both meant to be together, and God created you for her, and her for you.
What is your reaction?
Honored? Confused? Scared? Pressured?
Think that's cool? Turned off?
You could start your reply by explaining your religious orientation. Obviously some people are going to react differently than others. Explain your gut response and/or how you would react or continue the conversation. I'm looking for a wide range of responses.
Agnostic.
I have a huge dislike for organised religion, and I would never date anyone that had anything todo with it.
My girlfriend asked me the other day if I would stay with her if she became religious, and I gave her the straight answer of no.
This is serious stuff that everyone should cover in a serious relationship. Her saying such a thing is meant to find out if you're a suitable mate, so lying won't help. Religion (atheism included) is a serious part of one's "self" and thus a big part of a marriage also. Especially when child-rearing is a possibility.
I personally am a Christian but not a fundamentalist. I don't presume to know what God's plans are, and not only that, I think it is foolish to do so. If I were told something like that I'd say "I'm flattered, but..." and then talk about why I don't believe that people are "made for" each other.
That reminds me... I used to have a boyfriend who was a 7th Day Adventist. We sort of drifted apart, but I don't mind that because I had no intention whatsoever of joining his nutty religion. We never had a conversation about it, though.
Raised catholic I wouldn't feel disturbed as most of the people I know are from that religion however if this is a conversion thematic, I would really feel weird.
I personally believe in God but not in the church, I can believe there is a common origin for everything but not that others that are in the same biological level as me to tell me what to believe, that is ridiculous.
If I convert someone from atheist or whatever to christian or something else, I would only care if she takes it as a guide to live, not to be a Jesus fan.
Being the unromantic person I am, I'd probably say "Neato burrito," but if we were to get into a discussion about religion I'd be completely open-minded about it.
I believe in a God but I sort of follow my own beliefs. Making this small because it's unimportant.
I think anyone who would be seriously offended or something like that would be just as bad as those who try to force their religion down others' throats. It's just like those people: "you don't believe what I believe? then get lost!"
Myself, I am accepting of all religion as long as it promotes love, peace, equality, etc. so if her personal belief was free of negativity (free of contempt, anger, hate, etc) I would be extremely happy to have her feel that way, regardless of whether or not I agreed with her. Eventually I would talk about this sort of thing with her, and make sure she knew my religious beliefs, but I would save it for another time so as not to spoil her good cheer in that moment.

This this this. I would be a bit turned off if her religious belief was "kill all nonbelievers".
"Everything Joliet Jane said"
Quote from: CorpseGrinderClock;1374297Serious response: probably marry her and have kids.
Humorous response: "Yeah I have that effect on people" *flex*
hah, this too

can you be more close minded?
Quote from: yo if your smart you;1374186Atheist, of sorts. I've never liked the labeling of Atheist. It never meant anything good up until the 20th Century. Even now, it's still looked down upon by quite a few people. I've had the courtesy of meeting them.
Most people attach the label anti-theist with atheism. It's pretty ignorant of them.
I am an agnostic and my gf is quite the catholic. We really have no problems. I respect her decision and she respects mine. My reaction was just like "<3333" when she told me.
Quote from: CorpseGrinderClock;1374377Also did this really happen to you? You stated it in a hypothetical way but I'm curious.
Yeah, it happened to me. I liked the idea of the scenario later and thought it would generate some nice discussion.

I think this was somewhere along my response. I can't remember what I said exactly though. I heavily agree that all serious relationships need these kind of discussions. I think it's cool that people from different religious backgrounds can agree on love...

That's I'm a edgy teenly shallow.
i would pray naked with her
"Of course, since I met my future mother-in-law, and she proves Satan exists. So as a logical conclusion..."
Thats probably as far as I'd get before the slap.

E: oye that was cynical
Well y'all knowing me that would be some of the best news. I would endeavor to not fuck it up.
Well if it bothers you that much don't go for it. I could give a shit less what somebody's religion is. At the same time I think in my case a religious lifestyle certainly conflicts with my own so I don't think I could go for it. If you can then by all means go for it.
My mother's protestant and my father is catholic. By upbringing.
Though nowadays, my mother's a super-ultra-religionist while my father's all "IF I DIE IM A CORPSE, THE END."
They're still together, in a generic 'we have the good times and the bad times' marriage that's so common these days. They'll both be 60 soon.
hmm, thats a pretty interesting question.
I'm into the idea that we all started somewhere on the basis of a greater good, and a universal love, but not into Christianity what so ever. If she was like JESUS PUT YOU HERE I'd be like Nah but she was saying like, just, GOD in general gave me to her, then sure, that'd be sweet.
