That's actually not a terrible idea.

Why not just require admin validation in addition to e-mail and all that? If you're a bot, you get B& on the spot. We have a bunch of new admins (Slurpee, ZombieLincoln), so as long as we have someone dedicated enough to check through new registrations at a reasonable pace.

Could help weed out alts of banned users too just in case, a little background check during the 7-day period could help.

also our captchas aren't hard enough

I made a thread in the Grid regarding the implementation of Roman's brilliant idea to incorporate a flash-based registration element, which I think should be able to take care of the problem fairly efficiently. I'd do it myself, but it entails more than my greenhorn understanding of the site's structure can manage.

In the mean time, Losp is being awesome and banning all the bot registrations, and what's more passing along common spam e-mail addies (@freeps3pikachuhentai.org) which Leek and I have been banning from registration. Really, it requires just about as much work as admin verification would.

We're taking care of it, guys. Worry about it after we've failed. =)
Go work on your awesome flash movies.

Uh, Buddhist ad bot?

Quote from: Jessie2Hi,I'm new here, how's it going?"Buddhism has the characteristics of what would be expected in a cosmic religion for the future: it transcends a personal God, avoids dogmas and theology; it covers both the natural & spiritual, and it is based on a religious sense aspiring from the experience of all things as a meaningful unity" - Albert Einstein---Jessiehttp://jessie.infinitehosting.net

Aw, I just noticed this. {{{Slurpee}}}

But if anyone notices any that have made it past the email registration stage or is PMing people (like the crazy Buddhist one Ubuntu mentioned) let one of us that are online know. There seems to be a new bot every hour or so, and I can't be online alllll the time. Thanks!

Yeah, I saw it awhile ago, and every time I saw it it was PMing someone. I figured it was a bot, but no one ever complained about any spam PMs, so I decided to let it go. It's still pretty active. Or, should I say "she" since it's name is Jessie2?

This is one bot that will come to no harm. Go free, Buddhist bot. Go free. :)
