I like cutting it diagonally. It's the easiest to hold, and I get the most sandwich.

I'm referring to square sandwiches, of course. Those are the only kind where any of these cuts are practical and obvious.

I cut it into an X because my mum used to make my sandwiches like that and i like having little handheld pieces.

It depends on which kind of sandwich it is, that is if you can classify a sub as a sandwich, considering its full name is the submarine sandwich, but in that case it would quite difficult to cut it diagonally so I'm going to have to say down the middle.

Often I eat sandwiches on a bagel, and there's no way to tell its cutting orientation.

I'm talking specifically about sandwiches made from normal, square bread. I should probably specify that.

Right down the middle is the way to go.

...but every once in a while I'll feel like going against the grain (with no pun intended) and cut it diagonally.

Squares if it's a regular sandwich. Diagonal according to custom when I'm dealing with a club sandwich.

Vertically, I even have a specific pattern of where to bite in what order and how much per bite because I'm OCD like that.

Depends on the type of sandwich...

Any kind of cold cut or tuna sandwich gets a cut in half down the middle.

Grilled cheese or peanut butter and jelly requires a delicate diagonal cut.

Vertically. Sometimes, the bread isn't square, so a diagonal cut will be too long. Like this one:
