Let's try to get some fanboy discussion going...
I just traded my Wii for a 360 last night, and I began thinking about why I used the Xbox's market place so much more than the virtual console on the Wii. In fact, the XBLA alone pretty much makes owning a 360 worth it. I was up last night redownloading old games I used to own, and I didn't even bother popping in a game.
The games on the 360 have leaderboards, demos, and downloadable content. There are small $5 games that can kick serious ass. And best of all, you get to try demos before you buy them.
The Wii has mostly games you've already played before. That's alright though. I'm always down for retro stuff, but is anything original? There isn't any online connectivity taken advantage of, either. For instance, that's great that you can download Mario Kart 64, but you can't verse friends online. There's nothing new.
You could argue that Xbox Live costs money per month, and I could argue that you have to get a stupid new controller for some virtual console games. I would much rather have Xbox Live points than Wii points any day of the week. Anyone else feel the VC is lackluster?
I can't comment on the PS3 cause I haven't owned or even used one yet, but you guys can fill me in on how they're doing too... :teach:
It's because Wii is shit.
And so is Xbox2
And so is PS3
yah i really really like marketplace, i download demo's and arcade games all the time. Plus the friend system works great with the headset, often im in a private chat with one of my friends and we don't even have to be in the same game.

But you don't like anything except complaining so
Well I'm glad they have WiiWare, then.
I like them both.
PS: I think the XBLA is more dedicated to secondary or simply not so super sotisphicated projects on currently running consoles as on the released titles on the CD media. For example, CastleCrashers and Bionic Commando Rearmed are really fucking awesome even if they didnt got as much features as the formal releases on the "mainstream"
The Wii staff decided to leave room for alternate people as adults on the WiiWare with titles as "My Aquarium" or the sand castle thingy, its more like "fun for the whole family" on a bit of MiltonBradley ambience. While the Virtual Console gives material for the core fans. (unfortunately with really lame updates most of the time)
Stating as above, again. I like them both.
Doesn't the Wii Virtual Console have way more NES/SNES/Megadrive games?

yep
I think.

The whole Xbox Live Arcade has 160 games. The Wii Virtual Console just cleared 250 re-releases alone, never mind WiiWare games. Plus they're not $15 apiece ;)
yeah, snake, but you can get them all a little too easily on the PC for nothing, and you can even use the same 360 controller to play the games with. there's just not enough memory and they all cost a little too much to seriously collect them on your wii.
wiiware might be pretty cool, though, if they ever fix the damn memory issue. they're always going to be severely limited in the games that can be released on it, though, with that 40MB size limit (which means very few cross-platform releases like capcom releasing games on both xbla and psn...mega man 9 is probably all you'll see for quite some time).
but as of right now, there's not a whole lot worth getting on wiiware, and a whoooole lot of stuff worth getting on xbla. that could change in the future, though, especially since nintendo seems to be a lot less strict about the games on their service than microsoft is on theirs.
but then again microsoft has XNA community games coming out in a couple months also, which will lower the barrier-to-entry even further and is the most laissez-faire system i've seen from any of the big three...ever! The GP2X is the only console platform that has ever been less restrictive, as far as I can tell. XNA isn't quite as powerful as straight-up C++, but it's good enough for most XBLA-level titles (one has already been released that was developed in XNA, and a few others are in development).
They need to add more N64 games to virtual console. They've only got about 12 or so.

The SD card slot is my best friend.

Reggie Fils-Aime has said that Nintendo needs to come up with a storage solution
now. I imagine he's really spearheading it.
By the way, can I have my Winter Writing Contest medal now, please?

Mystical Ninja, anyone? Anyone?
Hell,
Zelda Majora's Mask would be fun, too.
Is there even a way to replace the wii harddrive with a bigger one?

They're working on it. At the moment, it only has 512MB of Flash memory, but it's expandable with an SD card.
I wonder if USB keys work on it... :fez:
i like the xbla, and i also like the PSstore or whatever its called, only shitty thing is sony is slow as ass to rip off others ideas, so we just got psn cards around here.
Im in the same position as you. Back when I had my Wii i purchased Gunstar heroes and super mario bros. And sure, it felt cool playing old games on a new system, but then i realised... Wait, i just paid 30 bucks for these two things? They're not any different than they were oh so many years ago.
The 360's arcade games are old games, but revamped, which is quite nice.

Well if they released an update to make that happen, we could just start saving stuff on external harddrives.

Yes. YES. YEEEEEES
Oh shit I didnt see that bit of his post, YES TO MYSTICAL NINJA. Greatest game ever. DASH DASH DASH

I'd just as soon suggest Earthbound, but we're talking N64 games here.
Why isnt earthbound on there anyways.

Because it hasnt been uploaded yet.
Dunno why, ask that bimbo Reggie.
No seriously.

Reggie should drop his occupation as a professional buttocks and join the NBA.
I personally love the PSN store. It's basically the XBLA one minus Castle Crashers, and different games. PS3 needs Castle Crashers. And the Wii desperately needs a hard drive solution.

No games require the classic controller.

I'm 99% sure that the VC roms are different format than the original ones, and plus the Wii doesn't let you move VC games from the SD card anyway.
PSN is getting better. I especially like that it has PSP demos that you can download (and even some PSP games you can straight up buy), but there's not a lot to choose from up there right now. Qore seems to be changing that a bit, though. I still don't get why they charge half as much as an Xbox LIVE subscription for Qore, though, for just about the same types of content that Microsoft offers in greater quantity and for free, usually.
There's still not enough on the PS3 to get me to buy one, though. At least not yet. I might change my mind once Little Big Planet comes out, though (or just buy that game and play it at work after hours).

Agreed. But with the 360's upcoming software update, maybe it will be even longer before the PS3 can fetch out a reason for me to get one
Virtual Console is the only thing I can get for now, I can't bought a 360 for my lack of money.
I agree with flounderman, It needs some 64 games

Can't you get a 360 for the same price as Wii now?

A-Yup.

it's not that, I only have 20 bucks per week and I have to survive with that, no m o re no less, It's tedious and long to get all the money because I have to spend in food, transport and some other things

The Wii remote can't be used on N64 or SNES games. Not all Genesis or Neo Geo games work with it either.
You could argue that I could use a GameCube controller instead, but not everyone has a GameCube controller lying around.
article on Virtual Console controller options
QuoteOf course, there’s also the concern that [the Wii remote] can’t be used on many Virtual Console games at all: simply not enough buttons, and there’s no way to remap controls to try to work around that limitation.
so far, i've only bought VC games that can be played with the wiimote, because i know i wouldn't want to be arsed to hunt down a gamecube remote the very few times i'm in the mood to play vc games.
actually, i still only have 5 total so far: super mario bros., legend of zelda, tecmo bowl, ice hockey, and adventures of lolo. i've played them each only 2 or 3 times.
i've been tempted to pick up the DKC trilogy, though. i can play and replay those games until the end of time, it seems. i'm still pissed they don't have a 3-pack of the games for the DS, and you have to buy the large gba games individually (blah). in fact, i'd rather play the trilogy on the larger PSP screen.
