If all goes well... I'll be entering newgrounds "promote ng on campus" competition.
Originally, that wasn't part of the plan, but I would love to win a cash prize in order to make back the money that i've spent on this project already. It's costing me a small fortune.
I'm creating a strawberryclock costume with chicken wire and expanding foam. I might cap it off with a layer of painted papier machet and a spray of laquer.
(https://clockcrew.net/talk/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.clockcrew.net%2Fhalloween05%2Fsbc.gif&hash=23c802325cef2f2d4aa2f884bb888b803794596e)(https://clockcrew.net/talk/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.clockcrew.cc%2Fhalloween05%2Fsbc.gif&hash=ca07cc021a930eaa88f47dd62970484c7a027ca9)
Picture one: building the endoskeleton in two pieces, which i later fitted together.
Picture two: a silhouette of me wearing the skeleton. (taken from inside)
Picture three: I began applying the expanding foam, in order to create a lightweight body that I can carve and paint.
Picture four: I cut the back off an old backpack, leaving just the straps. I cut the bottom of it into strips which I shall inlay into the body of the costume... making a sort of harness to carry the (minimal) weight of the costume on my back.
The deadline of the campus competition is the 31st, the same day I planned to do this thing. But I emailed Tom and he said it was ok if I go beyond the deadline.
I'll be handing out OBEY flyers and newgrounds flyers
sounds sweet :)
Lets just hope that we don't attract too many n00bs to the CC, lol.
This should be fun.
I love you.

I dunno. I've kinda gone off the idea. I'd prefer to do something more recognisable and less self-indulgent. Like strawberryclock (except this sbc won't have robotic voice or anything cool like that... it'll be a pretty rushed job).

This is one sweet project. :fifen:
I'd like to do something like that but in my hometown id probably be beaten to death. it would be intresting to see a load of chav's reactions to a giant strawberry clock.
Soooo today I went out and bought more expanding foam and lots of spraypaint. The guy at the hardware store warned me not to die (relating to how much of this toxic chemical i was buying).
I tried on the frame. That was ok.
Afterwards, the frame crumpled under the weight of the foam I had added yesterday, but I corrected that and added some more foam.
I cut out a hole for the clock, and I added the harness inside. I've foamed around the clockhole, and i'm waiting for that to set.

Yikes, time's catching up with me. I've finished applying all the foam, and I have two cans to spare. Still need to smooth, paint, and add all the details (clock, leaves, etc).
(https://clockcrew.net/talk/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.clockcrew.net%2Fhalloween05%2Fsbc3.gif&hash=35c18751cd430b10d8d08c09736348a7aae98e6e)(https://clockcrew.net/talk/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.clockcrew.cc%2Fhalloween05%2Fsbc3.gif&hash=506db3b5b78bf2ac3816cbadcc5840104b68151b)
However, I'll need to fill in some small gaps, and then do some reshaping/sanding in order to make it more smooth.
Ideally, if i had time, I would have used papier machet to give it a smooth outer layer.
Maybe it would be wiser to get it done RIGHT and overshoot the deadline, rather than to just have a shitty costume on time. At the moment i'm leaning towards "shitty costume on time".
If I had more time I could have made a septor and crown.
I can hopefully use this on more than one outing though...

Here you can see I've embedded the clock in the costume. Do you see the small circular hole in the clockface? That is for a camera, which will feed video of the outside world onto a small screen inside the suit.
I've carved it as much as I can without letting it lose structural strength. Now i've begun applying cloth, but I can only to this in sections at a time because I have to wait for one side to dry before I can flip it over and do the other side.
After that, all that remains is to paint it, and give it a coat of laquer.
edit: and add "leaves"
Beyond awsome =D

It was very surreal. Like a dream you know? Very disorientating for the most part. And weird because absolutely everyone (people in cars , tour busses, trains...passers-by, kids, etc etc) turned their heads to see this thing.

:'( I'll never forgive you for not telling me.
pint: no idea. just bung it in the garage for now.
evilberry: very sorry :'(
Here's a long shitty written outline of what I did today:
Friend came over (without whom, today's shennigans would not have been possible!)... I tried SBC on for the first time since its completion. Met some major design flaws, such as its being spine-breakingly awkward to wear, and its being very difficult to get in and out of.
I almost called the whole day off when I found that the large stock of batteries I had bought for the viewfinder, were incompatable with the hardware, this being useless (and with the train departure time approaching). So without this.. I could not see.
But then I found 3 pairs of suitable batteries, and decided, "fuck it, let's go".
We WALKED almost 2 miles to the train station, carrying this blasted SBC between us. ALREADY, in this rural Irish village, we were turning heads at every step of the way. It was very amusing at first, but it was only a taste of things to come.
We got to the train station, exhausted by the manouvering of this thing along a very narrow, very busy road. Lots of cars driving by gawking and honking. Just about fit through the station door, and we got the clerk to open the larger gate. He didn't even ask for a ticket, but we bought one anyway to prevent trouble later on.
We arrived at this much busier station in the heart of Dublin, and we became a great sense of wonderment to the station's many patrons. Kids were dancing with glee before this thing (seriously, every kid we saw today was entranced by the thing). EVERYBODY LOVES STRAWBERRYCLOCK, it's true. Every head turned. It's like something out of a dream, when everyone is focused on you. Being an attention whore, I enjoyed it.
So we walked to a quiet area in town where I suited up in this thing. Immeadiately I found that my batteries were useless, and so I reverted to just looking through the small hole in the clock. This was much more difficult because I had to lift the costume into place in order to see through the hole. Back-breaking.
Eventually we surfaced at my college entrance. By which time I was already perspiring and ready to keel over and die. This costume isn't userfriendly!
I began to force flyers upon people around the entrance gate. I walked through the main entrance, and heard someone shout "hey! hey! stop!", but then I heard laughter so I thought it was just someone messing around. So I continued my majestic entrance into the historic premises. The next thing I know, we're being evicted from the grounds by security. What a bummer!
But instead we just hung around just outside the main entrance, and handed out an assortment of "OBEY" and Newgrounds.com flyers. I was hugged by at least 4 people.
This was all very flustering and I was still struggling under the costume. I was perspiring so much that beads of sweat were dripping off my nose. Not nice, I know.
Luckily, someone saved me from dehydration by giving me a bag containing a bottle of water. He probably doesn't know how amazingly thankful I was, because I couldn't see a damn thing and I didn't know what he had put in my hand until after. He hugged me for ages, too, that was great.
Lots of hugging, hassling, and promoting later, we called it a day and headed home. We stopped off at a deli and my friend got us a snack and refreshments. All the while still receiving mixed responses of joy and bafflement.
Here in Ireland there's a radio show called The Strawberry AlarmClock, and some people confused me with that. However, some people had heard of Newgrounds.
I found a quiet place to desuit. Wow. It must have looked like the rhinoscerous-birth scene in Ace Ventura 2. A soggy leekclock being dispelled from strawberryclock's anus, out onto the curb. I was very glad to be free, as you can imagine.
We caught the train home and then got a taxi (didn't feel like another 2 mile walk).
There's more but this is a condensed version.I'll post a link with video footage when it's hosted.
somebody give this guy a harmony award<3
....I can't believe you acually pulled it off.
aids
On my way back to the train station, a couple of thugs DOUBLE TEAMED me. They bounced me. They didn't persist though.
However, the suit was so disorientating and misted up at that time, that I didn't see them coming. I just heard their voices, and then WHACK.
I'll share these joyful tales, as they come to mind.
AMAZING
damn why couldnt i have been in dublin today!
here i am stuck in fuckin catslebar in mayo!
You're awesome!
Leekclock for clock of the month!

I just lost my load. :fifen:
I so wish I could have seen it... oh well... good story.
Leek.... you never cease to amaze me, your dedication and hardwork are a inspiration not only to the clock crew but everyone who has the priveledge of knowing who you are. You are truly, someone to be admired.
Leek just told me that he got kicked off of part of his campus for wearing it, but he stayed around the other areas :)
And that lots of people {{{ }}}ed him. See? Everyone does love StrawberryClock.
if i lived near you, I would deffinately tape it.
i can't wait to see a documentry of the strawberry clock in action..bring it too the people, they despretly need another identifyable cartoon character.
for fucks sake leek give clock of the month to yourself. You deserve it more then any other clock here.
The amount of video we snagged is minimal because the battery ran out (we shot about 30 minutes, although not all at one place).
Sorry for the gaps in sound. Microsoft Movie Maker's fault. They're in 3 chapters.. They get better and better:

She enjoyed her hug too much. :)
Leek, I freaking love you _praiz_
Quote from: Marlin_ClockSorry, but halloween is tomorrow, so you might want to pull an all nighter if you want it to work.
You could go old fashioned and do an obey flier with the little tank guy.
Don't forget who thought of the good ol' fashioned OBEY flier, and I wonder what that old lady would look like when she actually went ON newgrounds....
That kid in the hoody looked a little to happy about it too O_o
That was an amazing clockumentary.
Thanks!

He gave a Newgrounds flyer to an old lady. He has no shame.
leek u are the master. U are so dedicated to the way of B u should be clock of the year. I hope u win the 500$ for the best costume ever. Keep up the great work u do leek never give up and never surrender.
Leek, you HAVE to give youself a harmony award. I mean, i got 1 for dressing in a lousy, low-end GodClock costume, walking around the block, and people thought i was father time, that nothing compared to walking around in a city spreading teh CC <3
Surely that was the truest, Clockiest of acts. Amazing.
Those American ladies were really screaming. Must've been Strawberry's botanical magnetism, but I'd be terrified.

Quote from: CadillacClockThat was pretty damn funny though that hug you got from the fella seemed extremely long. :D
I was at least hoping he was just waiting for a friend to take a picture or something, and there wasn't a wet spot on the costume when he pulled back.

Seriously, I think Leek, if he's ever done anything amazing for the ClockCrew, this will DEFINATLY get him Clock of the Month, no doubt.
It would be funny if those old ladies actually went to Newgrounds and looked at the college contest post.

1.) dont just read the first post dumbass. if you'd finished the thread you'd know that its over and leek won
2.) we have nothing against the LL apart from a few crappy personal issues

I know the feeling. That was great! I absolutely loved it. If only I could have seen you in person wearing that thing. It would have been like a CC version of Disneyland. I would take pictures with you and everything.
Quote from: LeekClockMaybe she was Tom Fulp's aunt. ;)

How much did the whole costume cost in total? Sorry if you had said previously. Or just private message me, cause I'm interested in what it took to make etc. I'm inspired. :)
Oh
My....
*explodes in laughter*
This, my fellow clocks, has been a great day for Leek
I wish that I had his costume, or at least a peek
Those other guys who got second and third finished faster
They didn't even deserve it, those stupid bastards
Leek you have won the contest, honourary indeed
If you don't get Clock of the Month, I will make whoever is bleed
Whatever happens in the future, Leek will be around
He is like Jesus: if a clock's lost, he'll have them found.
Quote from: LeekClockMaybe she was Tom Fulp's aunt. ;)
Maybe she used to be in correspondance with Tom Fulp
What true devotion. I lack the initiative to partake in such a project. You are far braver than me, and I've survived Halloween Horror Nights! (lol) :army:
Haha, I put this on my iPod and showed it to my art teacher during school.
He now understands what my art project is about.
