Well, here we go. There's no stopping us now.
This thread is here to post updated word counts in every day and perhaps share some thoughts about the adventure as we go along. It's important that you post it in here; I'm going to be putting up a scoreboard that shows the word counts for each participant and will cheer the winners as they pass 50,000 words; I just need to work on the script.
Good luck, everyone!
Also, things not related to the word count or book progress will be edited out. If you really want to bicker, make a new thread about it.
I'm on 2400 words so far and my story already has satan and sexy twins. The word count validator isn't working for me
263, counting chapter titles.
I know we're supposed to have 1,667 on the first day, but I still haven't slept from last night, so I'm kind of beat and not able to go on much longer. Feelin the story, though. I hope the rest of it clicks together as well as it has so far.
I wish I could stop going back and correcting myself.
Things would go so much faster.
And yeah, the world count validator.
It's a big grey box that doesn't work.
What the fuck.
It's the first isn't it. Fuck. Fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck. Fuck.
I'm still working on my Latin homework :(
I pulled 3000 words out of my ass starting at midnight, then got some sleep. I just got up and hopefully I'll finish another chapter or two today.
It helps that I'm leaving all the revising for December.

how on earth do we post our word count on the nanowrimo website, like make my little blue bar go poof into something bigger?
edit: well after reading slurpee's post i guess it's not gonna work today, if at all.

Established half of the backstory and introduced one of the Chekhov guns.
The world is flooded because some dumbass extremist environmentalists tried to blow up the polar ice caps to show what would happen if the ice caps were to melt with science-induced material that was made to be able to rehydrate villages with a small amount of water.
Result? The world is plenty hydrated now.
The protagonist is stationed in an underground\undersea airbase, has seen the restored Mustang, and is about to be tasked with fighting aliens.
The Chief mechanic also has an accent. I'm not exactly sure what it is.

No, the validator doesn't work. You can edit the little box above the validator that says Word Count: 0 to whatever number you want.
Quote from: Lexington;1439225AH HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! I love it!

Here's the excerpt.
Quote from: NaNoWriMo NovelThe flooding was gradual. People didn’t see the water around their shoes until it was pointed out to them, and still they thought that someone else would take care of it, it’s someone else’s problem, and continued to live their lives as they normally did. This meant that they put crap everywhere, despite the best efforts of many to try to change their habits.
Then things went really wrong, as a sect of radical environmentalists had decided to take things into their own hands. They planned to hijack some high-grade thermonuclear material and show them what was going to happen by blowing up the northern polar ice cap. They succeeded, but it turned out that what they thought was thermonuclear material (which would only blow up a small portion of the ice cap and raise the water about a foot) was in fact the material for a “hydration bomb,” designed to convert a small amount of water and air into a high yield of water (named so because of the speedy reaction). However, the material for the hydration bomb was very reactive, only needing about a jug of water to be able to hydrate an entire village’s community for a month.
By mixing the highly reactive material with the water packed into the ice caps, the results were fairly typical. A lot of water plus highly-reactive water-forming material meant that the whole world was going to be plenty hydrated.
Quote from: Slurpee;1439229No, the validator doesn't work. You can edit the little box above the validator that says Word Count: 0 to whatever number you want.
The validator isn't activated until November 25. It only confirms that you wrote 50,000 words so that you can win.
By the way, I reached 4,018 words today, which took me through the first chapter. I introduced most of the characters in small vignettes to show possibilities of what this world could be like for everyone. You can read it at my blog if you like.
I'm starting very slowly and shakily. Keep getting distracted. You never realise just how fascinating absolutely everything else is until you sit down to write. :(

...
I WILL DESTROY YOU, I AM NOW ON 7700 WORDS
Late-night post coming your way this time, and a less beefy word count: 2,015 words today, bringing my total to 6,058. Worked the closing shift at the pizza place today, so most of my writing had to be done tonight. I skipped out church over a sudden inspirational burst I couldn’t ignore once I was there; hopefully God will be glad to know that I introduced this version of Him in tonight’s excerpt.
It’s the morning after Phineas put the diamond on his heart, and he’s come out to greet the new day. Malcolm, Phineas’ best pal, is also introduced in this chapter; he didn’t have a story in Chapter One since he doesn’t really do anything to his heart that would need to be introduced (yet). At the moment, his appearance is expositional, but it’s set to expand quickly. Malcolm is my “accent” character; I like writing some character’s dialogue in a funny accent. Malcolm is supposed to sound a bit Irish, if the red hair and love of boxing isn’t a tipoff.
One of Phineas’ characteristics is that he’s very perceptive, sort of like me, which gives a lovely excuse to write detailed, lavish descriptions of things, which I quite enjoy. I’m worried, though, that my diction might be a bit heavy-handed, especially when I’m describing the Seamstress Cathedral. But no matter; it’ll work out one way or another. What do you think?
I also made Cindy’s part of the chapter less vivid, making it seem a bit like the way things are described are relevant to each character, possibly to their level of involvement or observance, or just how they are. Cindy is much less perceptive and detail-crazy than Phineas, so her segment of the story reflects that. Or maybe it’s just that I’m getting tired and don’t feel like extrapolating on the appearance of her bedroom would do much good.
With any luck, I’ll be able to post tomorrow’s entry before midnight, so I’ll technically have two entries for “today”. Gotta get into the habit of getting work done in the morning, since now my nights aren’t usually free.
Considering I have a job and Poltergeist doesn't except for school (which has more access to writing implements he can sneak a few words in compared to my job as a pizza delivery guy), my word count is rather remarkable.
(Reposted from my novel blog... except the Poltergeist bit.)
I'm at 3k or so so far. I'm behindddd
Also, I had a friggin' excellent example of why not to presume you'll have every day available.
Yesterday, Chalk and I drove out to the shopping centre (around 20 minutes away) to get pomegranates and potatoes. Unfortunately, we never reached it, as our car broke down halfway, in the middle of fucking nowhere.
FIVE HOURS LATER, we finally got home. There was a notebook in the car, but NO FUCKING PEN.
So yeah, I wrote nothing yesterday. :(
I'm at 473 still. I'll catch up somehow.

everyone should update their word counts on NaNoWriMo.org by mousing over "My NaNoWriMo" and then clicking "Edit Novel Info", or by punching in your word count in the little box in the upper-right corner when they turn it on this Monday.[/size] This will make it a lot easier for me to check up on your word counts and manage the scoreboard once I finish it.
Whaaaa??? I'm only at about 3,900 words right now.
Damn. I need to get going.
And i have no idea what to call it. I just have it saved as Blue2.
How about "Blue Earth" or "Blue World"?
How about "Blue Circle?" I think you can do something around the idea that the world's completely blue now due to the ocean and sy and whatnot.
Also 11,050 words now, I had a little free time :P
Man, Polty's going to have a boring November if he finishes his whole book in a week. _poogle_
Nah, nah, that's not the point of the story. While flooding the earth is one of the motives for the alien attack (yes, the aliens attacking really is important), it turns to focus more on either finding one's wings on one's own or having them roughly stapled on by someone else.
Anyway, it's not all about the earth being flooded, although it's important.
It may not be important, but it would make for an interesting title, no? My story also needs a name, it's a collection of four stories or so and its current name only relates to one, which I really don't like. It's great because the multiple story thing lets me switch to another when I get bored. Here's the start of one of them which I'm making my new exerpt:
I can assume you already understand that for a man such as myself to stumble upon a moral dilemma, it is very unusual to make a decision right away. First I find I must purely bask in the situation first. I must lay in the cark and flapdoodle of the situation. How odd that I, of all people, would come across a situation that is ethically challenging, of all things. A quarrel of justice, a confusion over rectitude, a conundrum of standards… This certainly is a wonderful and rare occurrence for me, one I find I must relish in.
Certainly you people would consider that every choice I make should contain a fracas of methods, and I assure you it does, I mean by this that I do not enjoy the things I do. No, this particular instance was that at the moment, I was not sure what the best course of action would be to entire my objective to the fullest. I had two selections, and in a prodigious display of my lack of omniscience, I could not decide which to take.
This foible of mine is most usual, and it rarely ever shows itself. This situation was one that was most unique, and very peculiar to say the least. Oh, what an intriguing life I lead.
If you don't understand why a moral dilemma is so odd for my narrator, it's because all of my stories are narrated by the devil.
Quote from: The Masked Man;1440390naarated by the devil.
Whoa!
Eh. Might as well proved an except from mine at least. My language is more casual.
Quote“Well, man is a creature of the earth.†Jake gave a sigh. “Still, I thought we could…â€
“What? Decide that the earth wasn’t good enough anymore, sprout wings and fly off?†Cody flapped his arms about in an imitation of a bird. “Look, I know that you prefer the sky instead of the ground. It’s just that we have to put other priorities first instead of simply going with what we want.†Cody dropped his arms. “At least being here is safer than being out on a blimp. You might as well paint a large target that says ‘shoot me’ on it.â€
Jake slumped his shoulders. One thing about Cody was that he had a knack for winning arguments. He seemed to be able to find any counterpoint to anything, even once when he was dared to convince people that totalitarian dictators were needed in society.
Cody noticed the disappointed look. “Well hey,†he said in an encouraging tone, “maybe one day we’ll find a wrecked shuttle or something and leave this place. Who knows, maybe some NASA projects could wash up here in the current.â€
“If we do that, then all we’ll be doing is providing a nice skeet target.†Jake’s calm remark surprised Cody for a moment, then the two laughed at the joke. Their laughter was cut off by a klaxon, followed by an announcement.
“Flights Red, Yellow, Green and Blue report to staging area 5 immediately. I repeat, flight Red, Yellow, Green, and Blue report to staging area 5 immediately.â€
Cody clapped his hands. “Finally,†he said with a grin,†I was wondering when we’d meet those damn bugs.â€
I like bug monsters :3
Also, the devil takes on the thought processes of whoever the main character in the story is. His "personality" never changes, but his expressions and word usage do. In one of my stories the main character is Leroy, and the devil is a far more casual narrator with him. The reason for this is the devil is shown to be an excuse for "imperfect thoughts" - all "bad" thoughts are "implanted" there by the devil, however he has to speak as the charracter does, because
A) The devil probably isn't real, but he assumes he is for the purpose of the story
B) If he were to just "imprint" thoughts however "he" speaks, you'd question the legitimacy of the thought
C) The devil does not know how "he" talks, and does not know if he actually has a personality or intentions
The bugs are actually machines that the alien pilots merge with. It's just they never find that out because the bodies meld so perfectly they become indistinguisable from each other
QuoteAgain, for your convenience, another document is provided to give context to the situation. Here is the After Action Report of one of the first contacts with the alien invaders.
DATE: JUL 5, 55 AF(1)
TIME: 15:40
LOCATION: 50 MILES OFF OF FORMER UK
UNIT(S) INVOLVED: 060 FIGHTER WING, 2ND SQUADRON, 5TH FLIGHT
COMMANDING OFFICER(S): Russel, Lee (LT-1)
PARTICPANTS: Smith, William (CPL); Bagger, Johnson (PVT); Zimmer, Lance (SGT)
SECURITY CLEARENCE: CLASSIFIED
SUMMARY: 5th flight had encountered an unidentified aircraft and was subsequently annihilated.
PROCEEDINGS: 5th flight was proceeding normally on a routine practice patrol. We had finished our sweep of the last point and were turning home when our TEC(2) Zimmer picked up an unidentified object moving at high speed. We tried hailing the bogey on several frequencies but received no response. After it closed with us, we spotted something the size of a tanker aircraft, looking like a stumpy football with six legs. What first drew our attention were the four large, antenna-like protrusions poking out from the top of its body. Our a questions were answered when what can only be described as a hail of glowing light-bulbs erupted from one of the stalks and blew Bagger apart. We broke formation to engage, but it moved with surprising speed and agility and gunned down Smith with the light-bulb cannons. It turned around to take me out when Zimmer sent an SOS message on a high-band frequency, which seemed to disorient it enough long enough for me to let off a few missiles. They didn’t have much of an effect, since the bogey was covered in what seemed to be a deep blue chitin, but it was enough to shake it for bit. Zimmer let loose his drone fighter(3) to savage the bogey while we made our escape. We managed to successfully disengage from the bogey and returned back.
RESULTS
5th flight had encountered a new type of enemy. So far, any attempts made to properly identify this have been met with failure. Whatever we were facing against, it was big, nasty, and something I don’t want to meet again.
CASUALTIES
Smith, William (CPL) -KIA
Bagger, Johnson (PVT) -KIA
(1)Stands for “After Flood”, since in the sheer terror if it, many timekeeping devices were destroyed, and nobody really wanted to keep thinking of the old days.
(2) Tail-End Charlie, the last craft in line in a 4-plane group, and usually carries the large sensor equipment.
(3) To supplement the fact that the TEC was weighed down with equipment that hindered his craft, they were usually allowed to bring drone fighters to do the fighting for them. The TEX usually was tasked with providing sensor data, a job that often left him isolated from his wingmen deep in the action. The drone fighter allowed him to fight while doing his job of keeping an eye out for the flight.
Would a footnote count towards the word count?
fuck fuck fuck all this homework :(

Hey polty, I hope you're hard at work. I just passed 20000 words.
I tried updating my word count yesterday, but it wouldn't let me for some reason.
Also the NaNoWriMo website is slow as shit for some reason.
Currently my word count is 1,957. I'll continue working on it tonight.
I'd post an excerpt from the story but none of it sounds any good out of context, and I can't help but think the story doesn't sound good even in context. It's not that good of a story since I can't be bothered with coherence no matter how hard I try.
Quote from: aaa;1440663Also the NaNoWriMo website is slow as shit for some reason.
Yeah, i keep getting timeouts too.
You're not the only ones. Maybe the Nano forums are undergoing heavy use, or maybe everyone there is just a word count whore. Either way, its slow as an icebreaker.
The NaNoWriMo site is going very slow and often fails to work because their main server broke down and they're trying to support the entire world on their one wee little backup server. A most trying task.
This is why the scoreboard will be very important. I wish I could find time to finish it between whipping around town delivering pizzas. :grumpy:
Too many big words, polter, could scare away some readers or make them think you're trying too hard, if they can even concentrate to begin with.
Advice, not criticism.
I'm at 2382 and I'm stopping for the night.
I am now getting into the actual meat of the story so I'll be able to pump some shit out no problem.
They're meant to be big words, the devil embodies the state of mind of the protagonist, and the protagonist uses those words
3,457, currently. Here's a teeny-tiny snippet from the story.
Again, my writing isn't good or anything.
Quote“Well hello there, Captain Shrapnel! We meet again!” cackled Lady Destruction in her clearly fabricated voice. “You’re late.”
“Yeah, there were some problems and I got held back. You attacked at a really bad time for me,” answered Captain Shrapnel.
“Ah, but it was perfect timing for me! Now you will witness the power of Lady Destruction! Purveyor of Peril! Harbinger of Hell! Entrepreneur of Entropy!” Lady Destruction let out an evil cackle, partly because she wanted to make sure she cemented the atmosphere, and partly because she enjoyed her craftiness with words. Captain Shrapnel was unamused.
7,638.
QuoteThe radio in his helmet crackled. Graf’s voice rose out of the speakers. “Omega Squadron, Blue flight, give a status report.”
Regaye responded first. “This is Blue Three, I am ready for launch.”
Cody went next. “This is Blue Four, fueled up and ready to kick some ass!”
There was a moment of silence. Graf’s voice came back. “Blue Two, report in. Leroux, I know you’re there.”
“This is Blue Two, launch preparations completed. I am ready for sortie.” Jake’s hand tightened on the throttle, his eyes narrowing in concentration.
“Right.” Graf’s voice assumed that military bark again. “Tower! This is Omega Squadron, Blue Flight! We are ready for launch!”
“Confirmed, Blue flight. You are clear for launch on Ramp 7. Go get ‘em.”
“Will do.” Graf’s voice cut out, and Jake saw his aircraft taxi out of its bay and into launch position. He followed suit, maneuvering his aircraft a few meters behind Graf.
“Blue Two! Maintain Launch intervals! You’re a half-meter too far!” Graf’s sharp voice caught Jake by surprise, and he almost lost his grip on the throttle. Jake shook his head. If he was allowed to, Graf would have walked out of his aircraft and measured the intervals with a meterstick. He checked the rear-view display, and saw Regaye’s aircraft nosing up behind, and after him would be Cody.
Up ahead, the large, reinforced bulkhead doors opened up into the launch ramp. Graf went first, moving his aircraft onto the catapult hook as the doors closed behind him. Jake heard a whoosh, and when the doors opened again, Graf’s aircraft was gone. Jake moved his aircraft forward, aligning the nose wheel on the catapult sledge. The doors closed behind him, and it was dark, with only the instrument lights providing illumination. Then he saw a series of lights ahead and to his left. He knew the launch sequence, three red lights to warm up the engines would turn on first, then would change to indicate takeoff. Jake applied a light pressure to the throttle stick as the lights blinked on, waiting for them to turn color.
Then the glaring crimson became a bright green, and Jake was shoved back into his seat as the catapult hurtled his fighter up the ramp. He saw a dim light at the end of the tunnel, the doors of the launch ramp opening to let him out. Then the darkness fell away, and was replaced by the glowing dim of the setting sun. Jacob felt that strange feeling of the ground leave him, shoved out of his body by the acceleration, to be replaced with a feeling of calmness. He welcomed the sky, and the sky welcomed him back.
At 35028 as I wrap up chapter fourteen.Maybe I'll do another page or two so can tell my classmates tomorrow that I'm on page 100, but sleep sounds good too right now.
Ending the day (actually, beginning Wednesday, more like) with 5020 words, and now I feel the need to fall asleep. It's been a crazy day and I feel very happy for the election turnout.
I typed a total of 2638 words today which is quite a large amount. In fact, I more than doubled my total words written today. Dayum, dude. I'd feel awesome if I didn't lack confidence in my writing abilities.
Ah well, election and words written, good day. G'night.

Juuuuuuuust passed 10k words. I'm at around 10.5 now. Holy god I'm so behind and the plot isn't doing what I want it to. :(
At the moment the work is seeming really random, I want their job to have more of a continuous purpose. Chalk has been helping me a lot though it's good to have someone you can talk at about plots, to try and get them more organised.
I still have so much to do before I'm caught up today uggghhhghhhhhhh
WEEK TWO IS SETTING IN EARLY :(
I'm at around 5k words right now. I'll hopefully catch up today and tomorrow. I've finally introduced another main character, so things should hopefully speed up for me.

QuoteThe Mustang’s tilted landing posture allowed Jake to see behind with the mirror. He made out the shape of the woman crouching behind a few cans of fuel and ammunition in the rear of the hangar, her figure hidden in the shadows. He could make out the reflection of her eyes in the mirror. They both remained absolutely still for a few seconds. Then to woman began to move, slinking slowly into the open light. Judging by the way she moved her head, Jake realized that she hadn’t seen him. While still using the mirror to keep tabs on her, he slowly began to slink down into the cockpit. He was no coward, but he had seen what had happened to the tech, and if she could crush bulletproof armor with a single punch, then she was definitely out of his league. He had managed to move most of the way down, only his eyes and the top of his head above the cockpit’s lip, when his leg brushed the plane’s control stick. There was a rush of hydraulics as the airplane’s flaps moved to correspond to the direction of the stick. The woman’s head whipped around to look, and Jake could see two eyes, one a bright blue and one a dark green, staring deeply into his own.
Jake could only utter one thing as their gazes matched.
“Oh shit.”
And then she was on him.

I've finished three of my stories so far, the longest being 18,000 words. I'm working on another fairly long one I expect to be 11,000 words. The third longest I expect will be around 11/12,000 words also, along with a few more short ones
Quote from: Lexington;1444322You're supposed to be at around 13,000 by this point. If you don't want to commit suicide during Week 2, it may be best to soldier onwards.
I need to get ahead a little more. Fortunately, I have a NaNo write-in tomorrow, which should provide a big boost.
Nah, don't worry, I'll catch up fairly quickly when I start reaching stuff I kinda sorta planned out.
I just finished the story about the gay german priest guys
Took you long enough.
3,596. Some personal things really knocked me off course of everything. I don't think I'll get much more than 15k now. Which is fine. Keeps life interesting.
Synopsis: The World As I Knows ItAbout a guy who was paranoid and thought he had a vision that the whole world was going to end, so he wrote a book detailing the history, culture, stories, and wisdom gained over the years in order to give the future survivors a head start, or to preserve a bit of a legacy for the alien life forms that encountered our species. In order to insure that his words would survive any earthly catastrophe, he snuck onto a ship and dropped off the book on a space station, possibly getting himself killed in the process. This story will be his words, as well as perhaps a second part which is fiction and details what happens when some party or another encounters such words and how it screws them up.
QuoteExcerpt:
I went to sleep one night after a meal of delicious chocolate chip cookies with walnuts and cantaloupe strands, and during that night a supernatural being contacted me from beyond the stars.
I wrote down what he told me after I woke up, and I didn't remember it the best, so don't blame me for it not being perfect, but here you go:
"Hello puny mortal.
I am reaching out to whoever is on this terrible planet.
You are all doomed.
I am a researcher for the Hon Jopkins Hospital on the planet Googaber, in a star system that you may know as Vega or star 10r43289sdfne (something like that, I should look it up sometime).
It's really hot here, by the way. Our star is huge, and we are close to it. We have to live 10 miles underground at all times, and even then it feels like the roof of a pickup truck in a used car lot in the middle of the day in a country of yours called Haiti, at all times.
Needless to say, we are envious of your cool planet.
But back on topic, you are in grave danger. We have been conducting studies on several planets in your neck of the galaxy, and I in particular have been assigned your planet. I've been taking remote readings of your atmosphere and collecting slash watching the television signals that have been emitting like a foul stench from your planet, and, after putting this data into our Always Right!(TM) Supercomputers, I have found some startling news.
As I said before, you are doomed.
Not just you personally, but everyone. There is a pestilence on your planet. And that pestilence is a being called the 'human'. They have systematically wiped out just about everything on the planet with their simple and wasteful ways, using two paper towels when half of a single one would suffice, packaging every single edible morsel in a hard to dispose of material known as plastic in the name of sanitation, living much further away from family, friends, and work then they should, forcing them to use massive devices that devour the great air, mostly for convenience sake, so they can spend even more of their lives in front of computers and convincing people to buy more products wrapped in plastic.
Which by itself is terrible, but won't do any permanent damage to the planet, because they'll do themselves in long before it will affect anyone else. No, I'm not really talking about them, that was simply un unintentional aside. I'm actually talking about the rare beetle known as 'Yusef's Beetle', that has been diabolically good at keeping themselves from discovery from this human race, by using a cloaking device known as an 'Invisible Bugs for Super Survival Rag (TM)'. It is very effective.
These beetles emit an odor that, while indetectable, do terrible damage to the ecosystem over time. Since they are indetectable, they have been multiplying like ants, and so the level of odor has been rising in the planet steadily in the past 100 years, and it has started to reach a critical tipping point where it will destroy the planet as you know it.
The humans are starting to pick up on these effects. Animals are dying at record paces, the planet's atmosphere is decaying quickly, allowing deadly radiation in and cooking the world like a baked potato. The humans and some animals have so far been pretty resilient in adapting to these changes, but before too long it will destroy the planet. I give it another 5 years at best.
You may doubt my findings, and I understand that. Your own scientists are probably saying that it's worrying, but nothing that will mean imminent doom. They are incorrect. While I can't show you all the data right now, they are on file at the Office of Scientific Findings and you only need two forms of photo id to get it, and of course a quick interstellar trip to get here.
So I regret to inform you that you are all doomed, and should do the best you can to preserve your culture and way of life for those that come after you, since I know your kind doesn't have an easy way to get off this planet, since you don't have opposable thumbs. Which is a shame, because I'm sure we could have been great friends.
It has just occurred to me that you cannot take an interstellar trip here without the help of the humans, who you do not have any method of communicating with beyond knocking a ball into the air with your tail. That is unfortunate, but you have to trust me. Just the fact that I can communicate with you like this is enough to prove that we are much superior to you in science and technology, therefore we have to be more correct than you about our findings.
I advise you to leave immediately. Maybe thank the humans for the fish while you are at it. This transmission will self destruct in 30 seconds."
30 seconds later I woke up with a terrible sunburn (when you are outside too long and the round bright light in the sky stares at you long enough to make your skin embarrassed).
Just hit 5714.
I'm really far behind, but it's not so bad since i've got a long weekend coming up. Hopefully I'll get most of my work done then.
Edit: Just passed 6500.
7121 tonight. Wish I had gotten more done in the amount of time I worked on it, but oh well. Hopefully I'll catch up during the week.
uuuuuuuuugh 2153
18,542 words. By my calculations, I'm a day ahead. the lead has already met the needed female character. I haven't fully worked out if it's going to be a relationship or if she keeps trying to kill him.
closing in on 10,000. One fifth of the way done, and i need to ruin my weekend to catch up.

My weekend's already ruined because the guy I was supposed to switch my Saturday shift with abruptly changed his mind and said he can't do it. Fucker.
Ah well, just means more time for me to get ahead.
24003. Hopefully I'll have a bit of a buffer, in case i hit the doldrums, or go camping.
And i just had the female lead dual-wield shotguns. Jeez.
shit i was meant to be writing a novel
how is this month already half over
what happened :(
27,235 words. I seem to be the only one on tempo with a single story here.
10,228 words so far. I'm doing by best to catch up, so I'm devoting the next three hours to writing fast and furious.
For a couple pages my character will be living a normal life instead of a crazy-ass superhero life, so writing about normal things might go a tad quicker.
13,079 words. I'm surprised how fast a couple pages of dialogue and whatnot adds words to a story. Shame I got through it all so fast.
Anyway, I did some math, and, if I wanna make 50,000 words by the end of the month, I gotta write at least 3076.75 words each day. Hopefully I'll get more than that many words done a couple days should I ever need to pick up some slack.
(encouragement)
Just hit 40,000!

I think I forgot.
14,471. I just started getting together with this girl I know to have mini write-ins at coffeeshops and libraries almost every day so we can both get caught back up.
Gah, I was going to work on my animation for National Portfolio Day today, but I had to take a nap. I set my alarm to wake up at 4, and I woke up at 6:30.
I also didn't get much work on it yesterday.
I think I'm at somewhere around 78000 (counting both books). So I'm about halfway done aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa. At this rate I should be done this month, but not with a huge amount of spare time, because I'm going to be away for 5 days. I think I need 3666 words per day. That's less than half what I did for Megalith, and Thanksgiving break is coming up, so I should make it.
Although the book might run on longer than 50k words leading to beating the word count goal but not the book goal. All the better.
Just breached 31,000 yesterday.
Quote from: Wind-up Clock;1452127Just breached 31,000 yesterday.
Your avatar fits this post so perfectly.
33,439. I'm keeping right on tempo.
Here's an excerpt.
Quote=This cannot be true!= Viridus was overtaken by shock, rage creeping up right behind it.
{{The facts cannot be disputed.}} Eusou kept right on staring, his unblinking eyes looking at the mantis. {{The human is a danger, and we have been ordered to destroy it.}}
=Destroy it?= The mantis tilted his head. =Destroy it!= He gestured towards the Mustang, still shining blue under the lights. =Destroy our only link to this?=
{{That is also to be destroyed as well.}} Eusou was firm in his statement. If Viridus could blink, he would have done so. Then he began to tremble.
=These creatures have performed beyond anything that we have previously encountered!= Viridus began flailing wildly, =The geneseed does not bond to a machine! It was never supposed to! They possess capabilities far beyond anything that had been seen before by our race!=
{{That is why they must be destroyed.}}
=That is why they must be preserved! Think of what can be accomplished!=
{{Think of what will be lost.}} Eusou did not budge one bit.
=If we can learn from them, become allies with them, then perhaps we will not have to suffer that loss!=
{{That chance cannot be taken.}} Eusou bowed his head. {{The machine and the pilot are to be disposed of by this time tomorrow.}} The bee turned around and floated out, the mantis still standing motionless next to the Mustang. He clenched his fists and whirled around. He was going to do something, anything better than just idly standing by.
as of this moment: 25,032. my writing partner is at just over 23k.
this meeting up with someone every day at a coffeeshop to compete with each other is working amazingly. just 3 days ago i was at 11k, so i've written 14k in 3 days (and 6500 today alone). she's planning on getting to 30k by the end of the day tomorrow, so i have to do my best to keep my narrow lead on her (she's got most of the day tomorrow to write, too :()
my novel is terrible this year, though. it's got some good moments, and it might possibly be salvagable with a heavy, heavy rewrite, but i wouldn't want other people to read it until then, whereas my previous years i didn't mind people reading them, since they were mostly good stuff, if still a mess.
but at least it's looking like i'll win this year (which didn't even look possible a week ago), so that's good.
I just gotta say you guys are insane. The good kind.
I passed 40,000 tonight on my second book. I might also get some writing done while I'm on my trip, So it turns out I might not have to write any faster than normal to get done on schedule. The 10,000 words in one day was due to a snow day, by the way (yesterday I passed out after writing like 500 words or so).
And Snake, that scoreboard better be up when I get back :jerk:
I'm on 45,000 words right now, I's so glad I did this.
I'm on my fourth story out of five right now (I mean that as my book is a collection of 5 stories). I think this one is going to take me up to around 51,000, making it 22,000 words long and the final story will only be 10,000 words or so. So I'm expecting a book of around 61,000 words.
I find I've become emotionally attached to each story, as gay as that sounds. The one I'm writing now is actually quite sad, to my surprise. :)
46,009
39,043 words.
41,275 words!
Just a little shy of 9000 to go!
I copied and pasted my words into the box and clicked submit and it said i won. Upon further examination i realized that it meant i won nanowrimo, which i indeed did not, see i have only 18k words, and i must have pasted that in three times. Now i have all this stuff saying how i did it and how i'm awesome. Am I a bad person? :<

Only if you don't actually comeplete it. Assuming you're on thanksgiving break, get to work and don't stop.
Also, I think that if you go back and upload the 18k words in the verifier it might change you back to non-winner status. At least that's what the verify page says.
Also I just verified my stuff, but I've got 8k words to go to complete my goal of two books.
43,500 words.
Shiiiiiit 7,000-some words to go daaaaaamn
That's only about 500 words/day more than than normal. If you fail at this I will rip the necktie out of your avatar and strangle you with it.
I intend to finish this book.
I just finished the first draft of aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa (not the full title), and according to nanowrimo.org my combined word count is 100119. OpenOffice has it a little bit higher, but it says both my novels are 50k+ (OpenOffice), so whatever.
Just out of curiousity, Snake. do I get a special award for doing two?
one big push later...
16782
damnit, I really hoped to have at least reached 25k.
Oog. I got a 4,000 word research paper due monday (which i didn't do a lick of), and i got college essays up the wazoo.
And about 5,700 words to go. I'm not going to sleep tonight.
That's the spirit. Hope the college essays are short.
So I'll just leave my 10k here at the door. :( I was so excited for this and now I feel like a big douche.
This weekend won't do since I've got to start and finish an animation on hikikomori for school, and 40k doesn't come easy.
'Till next year I guess.
ABOUT 2400 WORDS TO GO!
GODDAMNIT! LET'S GO!
615 words to go.
6,000 words to go for me. I'll make it, and so will my partner :P Still a challenge, though.
50,147
I am DONE! It's a shitty first draft, and may be full of plot holes that i may have forgotten, but i am DONE!
49, 999
Shit guys I don't think Im ganna make it
Oh shit finished in the nick of time
Just kidding 52, 242
46,709 (+ approx. 200 words). I'll make up for it early tomorrow.
Partner already won, though. She got too excited and couldn't wait for me :(. Oh well, I was off gallivanting with friends instead of writing anyway. I'll make up for it tomorrow.
56,027 words, and at least I won, but it's kind of a dirty victory. I wrote a 3,000 word passage about absolutely nothing and randomly put in this passage I wrote but ended up clipping out at the end. I'm going to take this story a lot more seriously after I've had some time to relax.
Did not come close to finishing. The words just wouldn't come, I was brooding over it for most of the month. I do still hope to write it eventually though.
Congrats to those that made it.

oh well, at least I got past my previous word count!
