Hogart Hugges (possible the worst name in the face of earth [his parents didn't loved him]) is the antisocial-nerd kid and and one night he found a giant robot that was wrecking a power plant so he adopted him as his slave and mainteined it in his backyard? or whatever that bulding is called, and then he found out that he eats metal so he went to the scrapyard for some metal, the guardian didn't let him and he discovered that the robot is good as a slave so he used him to make scupltures of modern rubbish and the boy used him as his personal roller coaster, and then the aarmy came to claim ownership of the robo-slave and then they cloak him with the other rubbish and the army just go like -ok- and leave the guys alone....
Or something like that
Brad Bird is pretty cool.

at the end when the giant says "i'm superman" just before flying into the nuke i cried
I really want to see it again, back on cartoon network always used to air this for three days straight I really hated it. Now looking back on it, it was a very nice movie, and I'd shit bricks to see it again.
:(
Did this movie use 3D for the giant or just animate it? If it was drawn it was be jaw-dropping

The Giant was 3D.
Also, Frank Thomas and Ollie Johnson, two senior animators from the old Walt Disney studio, had cameos as the train conductors. That was cool from an animator's standpoint. :)
