Title: PC doesnt turn on
Post by: TequilaClock on February 13, 2009, 04:22:38 PM
Sigh, say I have an HP Media Center m7550la (which has been a huge piss off with problems in the past years) and now the damn thing wont turn on, the power button blinks half a second instead of booting up and holding the button or other shit won't work.

Any got ideas? I don't know shit about hardware so...

Might be that your mobo is going bad, I think I've heard of video card problems doing that as well.

If you have a spare video card lying around try switching that in and see if it works, if it's still doing it the best I can recommend is take it to a PC repair shop, if it's your mobo you're going to have to replace a lot of stuff unless you look for an old one that has the same sockets/ RAM type.

Unless you know exactly what's wrong your best bet is a PC repair shop.

Could be blown caps or general damage to heat-regulation components. Rubbish computers often suffer from such problems.

Tequila I looked more into your desktop, it probably is a bad motherboard. Lots of HP computers seem to have this issue ive found, I had two people bring me theirs and they had that problem.

Solution: Get a new computer and add your current hard drive to it and you should be fine.

If we really do this I will beg them for the graphic card and additional hard drive.

Is there any chance it could simply be a faulty PSU?

I would say if I knew what the fuck a PSU is.

Either way, the computer is on now but this happens everytime we try to turn it on, it takes a fucking lot of tries to get it started.

Big box thing with a fan inside it, usually located at the top-rear of the machine.

That's an electrical subsystem problem. Either your power supply is fucked or your mother board isn't getting power where it needs to go. Try taking out some unnecessary components, like PCI cards and CD drives. You could still have some power, but not enough wattage to run everything.

On the other hand, it could be a processor issue but I think it's supposed to beep at you for that. I know that if your machine starts turning itself off on its own abruptly (like not through windows), it's either electrical or your processor is overheating. That sounds like it's way too fast to be your processor overheating, though.

im sure this has been solved already but I NEED TO THROW IN MY 2 CENTS

if a component is overheating the pc will not run for much longer. i had a friend whos CPU would run at 80°C and wouldn't stay on longer than a minute or two giving us enough time to check temps in the bios. Also, if the pc is not grounded it can shut off. Another friend couldn't turn his pc on a a lan unless he was in a certain part of the garage, go figure. but i'm sure its the first part.
