Title: So I was playing Spore
Post by: Silly Putty Clock on March 30, 2009, 09:55:57 PM
And earlier on, I made a civilization of LeekClocks. Well, today, I started a species of SlurpeeClocks, and I just made it to the tribal stage, and the second random species I encountered was a nest of LeekClocks. Needless to say, my SlurpeeClocks slaughtered them all with throwing spears. It was fairly awesome. It was also great because the LeekClocks look like actual leeks when they're still.

LeekClock:

SlurpeeClock (for some reason, the textures didn't come out right and the clothing is invisible):

Also, this is kind of irrelevant, but when I was playing the LeekClock civilization, I made a spaceship based on O My Brothers:

So basically, even Spore's irritated with Leek for his go-away-without-even-saying-goodbye additude.

Not his fault, he's banned from the internet. Like Mr. Dink. http://misterdink.ytmnd.com/

I didn't realize that. Evidently, neither did my throwing-spear-equipped SlurpeeClocks.

Well, according to Dingleberry, he's been banned from the Internet. Really, you need to be more observant.

Agreed. Spore is most interesting as a medium for art, and what better motivation for art is there than sharing it with other (presumably) competent artists?

And anyone who says you can't make art with Spore has obviously never seen anything by Krispy9200.

Is it actually possible to create plants? I've looked around a bit, but after a couple of seconds I get bored of it and am all like "let's make some weird creature again"

If Krispy9200 is any indication, it is with the Creepy & Cute expansion pack, but I'm not spending any money on that. Although I think it has a flowerpot part that probably would have come in handy when I was making SlurpeeClock.

You're right in the "not spending any money on that", it's neat to have some new stuff but it's not worth paying for, and I saw some Exoskeleton expansion pack symbol, is that a real expansion pack or just a some patch?

I don't think saw some kind of flowerpot part in C&C, but you should be able to make one out of a jellybutton

The exoskeleton parts were a patch. I have them. I just haven't made use of them yet.

No plants in C&C, or they did a good job at hiding it

I noticed a lot of fins used in place of flower petals. Not all of the parts came in the expansion pack.

It's hard to make cylinders in Spore. By hard, of course, I mean impossible to the best of my knowledge.

You can see creature parts in the plants made by maxis too, appearently you need a debugger or something like that to become able to create plants

What I find funny is that I've encountered several of these amazing plant creatures in-game, and they're all incredibly aggressive.

Imagine being growled at by a lemon.

Sorry for flying off topic, but, since some of you are wondering aloud what became of our artsy papa bear, I guess I should let everybody know that Leek has said to me that he's merely very very busy.

Quote from: LeekIt was never my intention to 'leave' the Clock Crew, by any means -- I simply started becoming busier and busier up until the stage at which I am now, which is perhaps the busiest (mostly with college work, regrettably). My dissertation is due in next week.

Not wanting to 'leave', having no regrets or misgivings about my time and position in the Crew, but feeling comfortable with you and ZL in positions of power, it was easy (but admittedly irresponsible of me) to let the group i'd been actively helping lead for years sail on without my guidance for the time being.

...

It does feel unnatural to distance myself from the group in this almost involuntary way -- as if i'm signing away my own power of attorney in preparation for losing my mind. I <3 CC and what it's done for me, and this is still represented in my tattoo which I'm still thankfully rather fond of, even if it's the only current display of my loyalty possible.
So yeah.

And, hey, thanks for the spore thing.
Slurpee with monster legs and ape mouth is pretty hilarious.
