Quote from: RibsClock;1562129I did some target shooting in my day but I don't do it actively any more. It was nice and fun but I will say shooting hapless coffee cans full of water with black powder rifles using fifty caliber lead balls was a hell of a lot more satisfying than even hitting the bull's eye with the crappy .22

Skeet shooting was fun but I can't hit those things for crap so

how did you learn to shoot that .22?

I used to when I was in boyscouts. I was pretty good with the .22 myself, but I haven't tried in like six years. It's what you get with an anti-gun family.

Declaration of good conduct, absence of criminal record, personal interview. For ownership of a gun there's more to do with it.

Me and my friend used to shoot in competitions when we where 12 orso. The other contestants where all really old and id be surprised if they even saw the target. We shot with really shitty rifles though, im pretty sure you can shoot someone point blank in the head without them even getting injured. They had trouble enough breaching the paper targets.

they used these:

Although im fairly sure everybody can just buy these, at best you can kill a crow with it.

I've also shot with a beretta and some kind of shotgun though. My friends dad owns several guns included lame stuff like uzi's which i didn't even know where legal but apparently they are. They have this huge safe just to keep the guns and he makes his own ammo.

Haha, man I'm glad to be in america, I'm pretty sure all I need to do is complete a small aptitude survey to sign up for a card for handling a gun.

It probabbly is, dunno can't imagine they handed proper guns to a buch of 12 year olds.  Also why would you need a gun?

Boy Scouts can handle 12 gauge shotguns if their parents let them.

Also, in the states, deer populations are exploding due to us killing all the bears and cougars and wolves that were their natural predators, so hunting is important to prevent overpopulation and subsequent starvation.

Is that true? (the second one)

Absolutely. Of course, not in every state, but in states like Illinois, where habitat destruction for farming and the elimination of predators has made their populations too dense for the habitat they have left.

Also people who question hunting always seem to forget that some people find it enjoyable.

I shoot shotguns, I had a lot more fun with the hobby after I learned to reload my own shells. I'd suggest a hunter's safety course, it's a good introduction. I don't know if they have those in the nether regions, but they're ubiquitous here in Texas.

Think about having a large population in a limited habitat, sooner or later they will deplete their food resources, a resource usually not only they share. Soon, large numbers of deer will starve and the entire environment experiences a famine.

Yep. The deer are so bad around where I'm from when people aren't killing the deer hunting, they're killing the deer with cars, and killing themselves in the process.

Yeah, I gotta agree with Corpsey up there. Don't forget making fire. Every boy scout is a pyro.

Also, where I'm from, it's all about sledding at Eagle Cave and going to the Feast of the Hunter's Moon. Best buffalo burgers I've ever tasted.

I've forgotten everything about knots except for the really simple ones. I was always horrible at them, anyway. I'd say my specialty was marksmanship and wildlife sciences stuff.

I just go hunting, and sometimes I go to the local rod and rifle club to use their shooting gallery. I'm pretty good with rifles and revolvers.
