Title: The Pirate Bay = Guilty
Post by: TequilaClock on April 17, 2009, 10:35:29 AM
http://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/news/2009/04/the-pirate-bay-verdict-guilty-with-jail-time.ars

QuoteThe Pirate Bay "spectrial" has ended in a guilty verdict, prison sentences for the defendants, and a shared 30 million kronor ($3.5 million) fine. According to the Swedish district court (http://www.domstol.se/templates/DV_Press____10382.aspx), the operators of the site were guilty of assisting copyright infringement, even though The Pirate Bay hosted none of the files in question and even though other search engines like Google also provide direct access to illegal .torrent files.
These two points formed the basis of The Pirate Bay's defense, but the court found them ultimately unpersuasive in its 107 page verdict. "By providing a site with, as the district court found, sophisticated search functions, easy upload and storage, and a website linked to the tracker," the defendants were guilty of assisting copyright infringement, the court said.
In an Internet press conference this morning, defendant Peter Sunde Kolmisoppi compared the whole trial to (of all things) The Karate Kid, a movie in which the good guy is roughed up by bullies, goes through a long training process, learns to "wax on, wax off," encounters his bully again in the final round of a karate tournament, and kicks him in the face with his "crane technique." Kolmisoppi sees parallels. In the end, he insists, "we'll kick their ass."

Damn.

Let us stand together and unite in song!

Yo, ho, haul together, hoist the colors high!
Heave ho, thieves and beggars, never shall we die!

The king and his men stole the queen from her bed and bound her in her Bones!
The seas be ours and by the powers where we will we'll roam!

The term "copyright law" is an oxymoron. You can't put a pricetag on art. How much does 5 minutes alone with the Mona Lisa run these days?

That commercial was great because then they didn't have to bother tweaking the terrible A.I. that made pedestrians leap head-first into your windshield. Rockstar make detailed, OCD game environments with really shoddy game components. is true

This.

Ironically, I feel guilty for legitimately buying Spore, because I supported a company who could care less about the end-user, uses SecuROM,  is generally helping to ruin the industry, and I wasted $50 on an mediocre game. Yes, I'm being a biased twat and demonizing EA.

I am getting more and more reason to artistically satire suing madness.

Although Weird Al already did that to both sue-maniacs and copyright nuts.

But really, that's a phenomena of Piracy.

Nothing, but Nintendo wanted something new.

Mind you, I'm not saying that other consoles are bad or anything because they don't promote physical effort(I have a PS2 and a PS3), I'm just pointing out the fact that Nintendo wanted to innovate.

demonoid has the fucking stupidest ruleset i've ever seen

that and the stupidest moderators

You can make a full torrent with cracks, readmes, and whatever someone needs to run a game, but if someone doesn't know HOW TO FUCKING RUN AN ISO, OR HOW TO GOOGLE AN ERROR WITH THE GAME AND HOW TO MAKE IT COMPATIBLE WITH XP/VISA, they can post pages of comments like 'omg ths torrent dnt work, shit uploader,' while if you, in a spurt of niceness, decide to link them to a topic in which it shows them how to make it work inside of a comment, it gets deleted and you get a warning.
