This has been pissing me off like all day;
When does a pond stop being a pond and start being a lake?
I mean before you say "ponds are man-made" this is not always the case.
When does it turn from one to the other exactly?

Please save my sanity clock crew.

Also who ever satisfies my lust for an answer will get main character in my next movie :)

ponds aren't man-made, they're formed naturally by hollowing or embanking

lakes are just bigger, and don't dry up as easily.

edit: the internet is telling me lakes have areas that light doesn't touch well enough to stimulate plant growth, but ponds can grow plants all over themselves.

But that'd mean that a large puddle in shade is a lake...

I need exact answers of when one is one and when one is the other and how you can distinguish the two!

If you can see from one end to the other, it's a pond. If you can't, it's a lake. I base this on a study I just made up.

I'm saying the fundamental difference is not man's intervention.

There is an "n" within the pond and lake discussion which turns one into the other. An exact point when it stops being one thing and starts being another.

Its not the difference between "small and large", it's the difference between what makes one entity what it is and and what point does it change to another one through a minute definition.
