A Strawberry is not a fruit at all; a strawberry is a false fruit, an accessory fruit, a spurious fruit, a pseudocarp (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Accessory_fruit)!

The 'seeds' (achenes (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Achene)) are the real fruit.

Well a strawberry is a collection of many little pip-like fruit. So it was still founded on fruit- just by about 40 or 50 of them

Originally, the strawberry was named the strewberry.  Truth be told it IS NOT a fruit, but while it grew like other berries and was much sweeter, it became very popular in the late 1800s.  The locations it seemed to grow were strewn about, in random locations, hence strewberry.  I guess since we americans like to murder words it was altered.

Erroneous!
They were called strawberries because they had to cover the plants with straw during the summertime, otherwise they wouldn't survive the hot temperatures.
