Title: bing search
Post by: screwdriver_clock on June 01, 2009, 05:52:08 PM
Microsoft used live search up to now but just publically released Bing. There are a few new things, mainly some new viewing options for image search. Most of the search results are refined, the look is nice, and cashback is still awesome (get 10% off a product by purchasing it through bing? Sure). I'm currently using it as my search engine, id suggest giving it a try. Then again I'm sure most people are content to sticking with google so eh.

I'd prefer if they'd stayed Live Search but you know Microsoft. They have Live, Zune, Xbox, and now Bing.

How about Sync, speaking of the four-letter buzzword?

Quote from: Golden Clock;1591288I don't think it's a four-letter word thing as much as it's a one-syllable thing. It's supposed to make it sound simple and futuristic and really really important. Pretty pretentious if you ask me.
Well I think their goal is to make it a verb like "google" has become one. "Hey that movie looks cool, what are the ticket prices?" "I dunno, lets WINDOWS LIVE SEARCH it!" doesn't sound too appealing.

The VCR clearly outclasses either as a VHS playback device!
Certainly a superior choice!

Because "I'm gonna go Bing it and see what comes up!" sounds a whole lot better?

"You search for something, and bing! There it is."

This is why it is named Bing.

They probably changed the spelling for the search engine to avoid copyright infringement whenever someone had to use the number.

Google's name is based off of googol as far as I know.

I agree that Bing is a terrible name for a search engine, and I pity Microsoft for their pathetic attempt at trying to get people to use it. If they want to get people to use their shit, they should make something that's simple and works the way it should (like Google).

I stopped using Hotmail when they introduced all that "live" bullshit and added 10000000 links to the interface (and made it uglier). I stopped using Word when I realised you can actually get pictures where you want them if you use InDesign.
I will stop using Windows if I can get used to something else because DAMN getting used to MacOS is a bitch.

If Microsoft wants to stay fucking huge it's better off improving the things they've successfully made for years (operating systems) because now that they've diverted their attention to virtually anything electronics-related, they've started sucking horribly.

It works, but the thing lately is that it seems awfully primitive, so a lot of other guys are chomping at the bit to exceed Google, but they neglect the fact that right up there in the corner of most web browsers is Google. It's difficult to penetrate that kind of market. :p

God yes. I'm glad I got Gmail before Hotmail went all Silverlight on us.

Really? I found it pretty easy.

I use that corner search engine all the time.

It's often set to "wikipedia" instead of google though.

seems to be pretty good despite the stupid name, i like how scrolling down increases the results listed instead of having to go to a new page. sucks how they use frames though.
