Title: gonna be another good year for hip-hop!
Post by: peyoteclock on June 11, 2009, 02:34:07 PM
2008 was a bit slack compared to 2007, 2007 we seen full length releases from aesop rock, el-p, atmosphere, sage francis, mac lethal, dizzee rascal, saul williams, grayskul etc. etc.

this year is going to be the same, we're getting new full lengths from cage, eyedea and abilities, busdriver, quite possibly a weathermen album, dizzee rascal, mr. lif, possibly a camu tao (rip) record etc.

anyway if you have any releases your looking forward to let me know im always looking for new freshness

he was working on an album before he died, from what i've heard he only had the beats and the hooks done so i dunno what's happening or how it's going to play out but as far as i know el and a few others are in charge of putting it together, it's not some cash grab either, they all loved camu and the profits are all going to his family and fiancee.

That's pretty cool, I like that the Def Jux guys are really close knit like that, on other labels the artists don't even know each other

MF DOOM's (or DOOM's but i'm never calling him that) album came out a few months back and i've heard it's pretty great. the only copy i've got (for some reason) is a promo copy but yeah i guess that's worth a mention

another post-humous j dilla album came out recently with a lot of unfinished tracks etc. and i've heard it's actually pretty decent. either way you can't go wrong with j dilla

lol your taste in hip-hop sucks.

The new DOOM was good.
NOSAJ THING good
Bullion good
the new Paul White album is good.
the new Dr. Who Dat was good
Hudson Mohawke
Prefuse 73's new album blew me away that it was good.
Dimilite - Quiz Tears is great (and most other parts of 7x7 stuff)
The new On Ra is ok but a bit uninspiring.

etc.

tons of better hip-hop stuff going on.

el-p certainly isn't super white people hip-hop, he's firmly grounded in the streets of nyc as is aesop rock, i'll admit cage has gotten pretty white lately, very suburban, also saul williams is black so is dizzee rascal, mr.lif, busdriver and camu tao (rip).

i still haven't gotten around to checking you're stuff out but i wouldn't knock Def Jux for being too white, maybe you should get ahold of the classic hip-hop documentary and see how racially diverse hip-hop has been since it's inception, it's urban music and el-p and aes definitely represent that whether or not they're really wordy with spacey beats and sci fi metaphors or not.

ok so i see you listen to a lot of like experimental instrumental shit, nothing wrong with that, i bump shit like that a fair bit, but really if you're down on it i have no idea how can you say shit about el dash hubbard he fucking pioneered this shit in the mid-90's without him this would not be happening.

anyway i'm more of a lyrics guy, like to see alot of this production with someone dropping bars over top of it.

Because CC is full of people who fail at music, and have a very specific opinion on what should be considered good music.

also major lol at "scottish electronica" goes to show HOW FUCKING STUPID you really are.

because i entered a thread, shat on the music people like, said it was super white people music and then proceeded to fucking name off a bunch fucking experimental ambient artists and called them hip-hop.

dude i don't even care, you're a fucking clown and you don't know shit.

good job on being a fucking pretentious faggot, i bet you have a lot of friends
Title: gonna be another good year for hip-hop!
Post by: SixShooterClock on August 28, 2009, 02:43:55 PM
Wow, you consider them ambient? experimental? I'm not even trying to pretentious, any human with a full soul, would know shit like the stuff on Definitive Jux is complete fail, re-hashed white people trying to re-live the mid 80's to early 90's suburbanization of hip-hop music. Where as the people I talk about, are fully aware of how fucked up that era/movement is and actually incorporate the hip-hop movement with their own region and musical backgrounds to create an actual new movement/way of thinking for hip-hop music.

Also.. madlib, ras g, nosajthing, flying lotus, a bunch of the people I mentioned are from LA the fucking hypercenter of american hip-hop at the moment, so fuck you. Not to mention tagging these acts as "ambient" because they don't have lyrics because you're so unskilled in your listening abilities. Hip-hop is very much part of the electronic music scene now, and if you throw around terms like electronica like you do, you really don't know music very well. I'm not trying to be pretentious in saying that I'm just saying music has a history and to have a better understanding and capability to enjoy it you should know it's history.

I'm not being pretentious, I'm looking at what's actually something NEW now, where as you have the musical listening habits of an early high schooler. (that's when I thought Def. Jux. was ok and even then I only really liked RJD2 that much)

this is probably a bunch of goop, I didn't re-read what I wrote at all.

Goddammit, six shooter, you make it impossible to enjoy threads. I mean seriously man, "unskilled listening abilities"? When I go to a hip hop thread mentioning the artists Peyote mentioned in the first post, I'd like to discuss those artists, as opposed to bringing up completely different ones and insulting the original ones. Jesus this thread sucks.
But on the topic of a good year in hip hop, I haven't listened to all of the new DOOM album yet, but I've been meaning to for quite some time. Also I read that a new Snoop album is coming out this year.

hey you idiot, this thread wasn't "lets discuss these specific artsits" it was "good year for hip-hop"

and he had the name right, but the reasons wrong. If you people are uninterested in actually listening to other musicians or finding NEW musicians, that's fucking pathetic. This thread isn't Teenage white kid circle jerk, and I'm sorry for breaking that up.

I get the same feeling, for you guys not listening to a single artist I mention, instead just going "dude you're such a dick, you try to tell us other musicians, what the fuck, don't you see? We're already set in our ways like an idiot"

it wasn't so much that i took offense to you suggesting other artists, i listened to them an i enjoyed them it was you constantly fucking insulting the shit i listen to on the basis that you don't like what era it comes from, but really they are critically acclaimed artists who were and are pioneers.

also i'm not a fuckin subgenre whore and alot of the things i said were out of anger and i do know where hip-hop comes from and i'm an east coast guy, im addicted to lyrics and to me def jux represents the cream of the crop as far as lyrical quality and content are considered. i listen and have listened to hip-hop from everywhere in the world and from every era, bdp, sugarhill, tribe, onyx, kool-moe d, kool g, crustified dibbs, slick rick the ruler, run, biggie, pac, the wu, p.e., flatlinerz, fu schnickens, das efx and look i'm name dropping but like i know hip-hop, i know where it comes from and i know what it is.

It's not that you bring up new artists. It's that you completely disregard what was originally brought up, act like an asshole, and whore out your own preferences.

New Sol.iLLaquists of Sound > anything else this year, period.
Title: gonna be another good year for hip-hop!
Post by: Craisin on September 15, 2009, 04:41:20 AM
Sol.iLLaquists of Sound put out a really good CD, I had no idea who they were but I think Dwarf of maybe have been you, dingle turned me on to them.

Def Jux is fucking garbage minus a few artists... I remember buying Fantastic Damage because some forum was hugging El-P's nuts and it was so horrible terrible.

Anticon is just straight garbage, but I'm pretty sure nobody listens to them anymore... buck 65 fits in with those assclowns, although the centaur is unintentionally funny and makes him a faggot... although I heard wordburglar name drop him once... wordburglar is a dweeb too, but he doesn't take himself real serious anyway.

Anyway, I haven't actually got anything new this year... just been busy...

I was waiting for Only Bult for Cuban Linx 2. might check for the new royce 5'9 joint, I think MOP is coming out this year...

I haven't fucking checked for a CD in awhile... I remember Non Phixion dropped the future is now awhile back, it banged... I eagerly awaited solo and another CD... all sucked and bombed... I'm still waiting for Del to do the vocals for 3030 2, but that cd will probably just dissapoint me.

I'm not saying hip hop sucks now, it doesn't, but it seems like far less good stuff is coming out than even, let's say, 5 years ago, but I also may not have as much time to check for it.

Sorry Peyote, I just hate your particular taste in hiphop and you dig anticon/sage/def jux and that's cool, but some of it is so experimental i can't get into. And Aesop rock has a couple songs I like, but it's due to the RJD2 production and his voice just annoys me. Daylight is okay and so is Coward of the Year remix ft. Percee P

I also pretty much hate Def Jux, though are a couple dudes I like on that label. Not a fan of the Weathermen either really...

Anyway I want to check only built for cuban linx 2...

I don't have the time to dig through all the crap coming out like I used to..

The above mentioned album is really good...
My favorite was actually DJ Quick & Kurupt - BlacQKout which surprised me, quick pretty much laced the beats on that cd.

Uh, if Del ever records his verses I'll check for 3030 2 as well, but doubt it dudes burnt.
